About the property

‘Driftwood’ is a cosy recently refurbished chalet 500 metres from the sea, in a secluded area with views of Culver Down and close to the National Trust owned coastal area . Surrounded by wonderful countryside it is a peaceful retreat. A short walk takes you to the award winning Yaverland and Sandown beaches and with cliffs famous for their fossils. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, electric oven, fridge, toaster and liquidiser etc. The lounge has a comfortable two seater sofa and recliner armchair with a dining table and 4 chairs. There is a 32 inch HD TV with DVD and freeview. 3G internet access is available depending on your mobile provider.The chalet is modern in design and well placed. There is an adult sized bunk bed in one of the bedrooms and the other has a double bed with pocket sprung mattress. The bathroom is completely refurbished with shower.

Lovely comfy chalet in great location

We have just got back from a wonderful week at this chalet in Sandown. The perfect base to explore the island with beaches, coastal walks and even a zoo on our doorstep! The chalet is extremely well equipped with comfortable beds and good facilities in the kitchen (we have stayed in places before with hardly anything to cook with which is always a pain!). Owners very helpful and had left lots of info about all the things to do. We thoroughly enjoyed our week on the Isle and hope to be back.

Fantastic Chalet

Arrived to find bottle of wine and box of chocolates! What a lovely thought. Everything had been well thought out and executed. Fantastic beds. Great bedding. Towels and toiletries.Really nice crockery and cutlery etc. Makes such a difference to a holiday. Heating was on. Lovely. Kids were over the moon. Levi loved his bunk bed once he'd got over jumping up and hitting his head! He is only five i might add. The island weather was kind to us and we had a great stay apart from car accident but we'll gloss over that. All alive and well thank God. The only down side ( and cannot be laid at Jaine and Simon's door ) is state of campsite. Really run down and looking derelict. Shame because chalet is a fantastic base in a lovely position for children and within walking distance to Sandown,

Owner's Response: There are over two hundred chalets on the site that are privately owned and well looked after. The site has now been taken over and improvements are underway, including a new water main to improve pressure at peak times,.

Lovely little chalet

The chalet was very welcoming and had everything we needed to make our stay special. The owners left us a bottle of wine and biscuits which were lovely.

We stayed for a week and couldn't ask for more, our daughter (6 years old) loved her bedroom, and the out door area.

We visited the zoo and dinosaur isle which were both within walking distance as is the beach. We also visited the Needles in Alum Bay which was a fantastic especially the chair lift, a great day out.

I will be recommending this chalet to friends and family who visit the Isle of Wight.

Our stay in Sandown, IOW

The positives of our stay were that the owners of the chalet really went the extra mile in terms of doing the up chalet tastefully and ensuring that everything that we needed (and didn't know we needed) was available. We really appreciated this as well as the card, chocolates and wine which were left for us on our arrival. These little touches made our stay special. On a negative, however, is the fact that the chalet forms part of a group of at a guess 150 chalets and as we booked during school holidays, we had very noisy families with unruly children on either side of us (in very close proximity), parents who smoked outside their chalets and invariably the smoke would drift in our door. As far as the chalet goes, 10 out of 10, unfortunately, however, seems to be let down by the lack of control and rules of the holiday park.

Owner's Response: "Driftwood" is in one of the most secluded areas of Sandown Bay Holiday Centre, but the site is popular with families during school holidays. However, it is rather bad luck to have unruly children on both sides, as more often than not there are none.

Good location, clean property & thoughtful touches

Driftwood was a really good property for our holiday on the Isle of Wight. It looks out onto open fields and is just a 10 minute walk to the beach via the coastal path. The property is well equipped and pleasant gift of wine and biscuits greeted us on arrival. The property has been recently renovated and it is a pleasant place to stay. We had issues with the shower while we were there and the owners endeavoured to rectify this on the day they were notified. Unfortunately, even despite the plumber replacing the shower, demand for water across the holiday park means that at peak usage times (8am-10am) the water pressure is not sufficient for the shower to work. This was our only issue with the property and is a problem for the park more generally, rather than the individual chalet.

Whilst we were on the Isle of Wight we spent a lot of time at Yaverland beach, but we also visited Seaview, which we would thoroughly recommend. We visited Robin Hill park for a day with our children (2 and 6) and we returned for an evening to watch a magic show, samba performance and owl flying (all included in the standard ticket entry which is valid for 7 days). We would recommend Browns Café (Sandown) and the Gossip café in Yarmouth too. All-in-all a great holiday and we can't wait to return to the Isle of Wight.

Owner's Response: We are grateful for a thoughtful review as our aim is to make a great holiday experience, and remove any shortcomings. When we heard the shower was not performing we arranged for a plumber to change the shower within hours. The plumber indicated all was now well, so we have only realised an issue may still exist on seeing this review. As of Feb, 2017, a new mains water pipe to the site is being installed at a cost of about £30,000. This should resolve pressure problems at peak times

Sandown and Yaverland

A short walk of 100 metres and you are in open countryside, and after 300 meres and you are by the the sea, with wonderful views. Head south and after a further 500 metres you have reached the IOW's only zoo which is adjacent to a large Dinosaur museum. Head north from chalet and after just ove 1000 metres of bracing cliff top walk, you are come to a pub and restaurant high on Culver Down. The cliffs by Yaverland beach are famous for their Jurassic fossils and Blue Flag beaches. They are remote enough to only attract the occasional dog walker. Nearby Sandown and Shanklin are the IOW's tourist hotspots with cafes shops and seaside entertainments.
