About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to River Gardens, the remarkably versatile Russian River property that is just as suitable for a family retreat as it is for a honeymoon stay.

Say goodbye to stress and hello to peace, privacy, romance, and plain old fun on a very lush, fully fenced, 3/4 of an acre. Perfect for one or two couples, or a family.

Let the kids run and play on the large lawn while you enjoy a cocktail on the porch. Watch them swing under the shade of the huge bay tree while keeping your other eye on the otters swimming in the river. Wake up early and see a blue heron catch its breakfast.

Launch our canoe or kayaks from the private beach and paddle up to the town of Guerneville or down to the mouth of the Pacific. Cuddle by the fire when the fog rolls in. Relax in the jacuzzi bathtub and settle in for a night of comfort on premium mattresses and fine linens. Play a boardgame or grab one of our 150 books and dig in.

Location, location, location. Drive to Jenner and the ocean in 10 minutes (make sure to take our kite!), Bodega Bay in under 30, and Guerneville in 15 minutes. Renowned wineries dot the area and make for a wonderful afternoon of wine tasting and picnicking.

The driving destinations are plentiful, but it's what's in easy (and we mean easy!) walking distance that makes River Gardens the ultimate location. Located at the end of a country lane in Duncans Mills (on the town side of the bridge if you're familiar with the area), it's a breeze to walk to town where you'll find gourmet coffee and mochas, antique and specialty shops, wine and cheese tasting, the post office, brick oven pizza, and the popular Cape Fear Restaurant. You can also walk to the town's General Store for food staples, ice cream, or a nice bottle of local wine. It is entirely possible to leave your car in Park for the whole weekend and still find everything you need.

A beautiful setting. A beautiful house. It's all here, at River Gardens.

A dream come true

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not even come close to what this property has to offer. Peace, tranquility, closeness to nature, privacy - all in a well-kept, cozy home full of light. One can slip into this oasis and never feel as if one is in a rented place - it becomes home immediately. It is ideal for a personal retreat, for sharing unforgettable memories with a loved one, for relaxing and getting off the grid (almost). I am sure families would enjoy it, too, because the garden is expansive and the river access a delight. One can only wish that all visitors treat this exceptional home with the respect it and its generous owners deserve.

Smaller than expected; unsafe neighborhood

  • 2 of 5

The house itself is quite nice -- cute and cozy.

The patio, and the chairs by the river, are great for relaxing.

- Smaller than it appeared in pictures (it's all one level, with two adjoining bedrooms and a small living room and kitchen); fine for 2 adults but it would be very close quarters for 2 couples. Significantly overpriced for the space.

- There was leak in the master bedroom roof with buckets on the floor when we arrived. The hosts compensated us for this inconvenience with a bottle of cheap champagne. Okay.

- The house is just a few houses down the road from:

A) A watering hole called the Blue Heron that was, at 7pm on Saturday, filled with what can only be described as drunk and hostile rednecks. My friend and I were jeered and catcalled as we walked past. I felt unsafe.

B) Next to the Blue Heron is very clearly a homeless camp (tents, misc junk, etc) in the bushes. Again, this was just a few houses down from the house, and also made me feel unsafe when I walked past it.

Takeaway: the house itself is just fine (cute and in pretty good shape, despite the leak), but I did not feel safe in this area. Absolutely would not stay again, although I can't blame the hosts for their neighborhood.

Cozy beautiful house right on the water

  • 5 of 5

Overall had an amazing stay - was able to tour the various wineries while still getting some awesome hikes in (both on the coast and thru redwoods). This is very very remote so wish we were a little more prepared with food but I would def. stay again.

A great place to getaway from the hustle and bustle, even in the winter!

  • 5 of 5

River Gardens is a beautiful, well appointed home. If you are looking for a place to relax and spend quality time with family or friends this is it! We happened to stay during a huge storm and rising river but we still had a wonderful time playing games, watching movies, eating & napping. Owners were great and checked in with us on the river and road conditions which we appreciated very much. Jacuzzi bath tub was a nice bonus and we LOVED the indoor fireplace. Our pups had a great time running around the property during every break in the rain. So close to the ocean as well. Highly recommend. We definitely want to visit again during the warmer months.

Picture perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

My review is overdue but better late than never... I celebrated my 40th birthday with 3 of my girlfriends and my dog Joe Joe at River Gardens - everything was perfect! From the moment we opened the gate to drive in, we fell in love with the property - the flowers, the tree swing and the porches around the house. We made use of the canoe, both kayaks and the fire pit where we made S'mores both nights we were there. The little town of Duncan Mills is so sweet, we loved going through the little shops and we bought sandwiches from the General Store and took them out onto the dock and had a picnic right there on the water.

The house has everything you will need for your stay. We made a fire inside both nights, plenty of firewood and we played board games around the eat-in kitchen table. We all agreed the beds were very comfortable and we all ate, played and slept very well.

I would highly recommend staying at River Gardens if you are looking for some R&R in a wonderfully appointed home on the water. We all plan to go back again this year!

Peace and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

I had 2 pretty tough years and New Year's eve was the 1st anniversary of my partner's death and I did not want to be home. I searched online for somewhere to go and relax and reflect in solitude and peace and quiet. River Gardens was so much more than I expected. Absolute quiet and exactly what I needed. The kitchen is set up perfectly so I brought an ice chest with enough food to last the 3 days I was there but had expected to go out a couple of times. I felt so relaxed and at peace that I never left the property. I was standing down by the river with my dog one morning and a river otter stopped by to say good morning. Jacqui was kind enough to leave a bottle of Korbel and although I didn't drink it there, I brought it home and will be enjoying it with friends tonight. Comfortable beds, cozy welcoming bungalow, beautiful grounds and fully fenced. I can't recommend this property enough. Absolute heaven.
