The apartment has a great location!!! Two minutes walk from Ponte Vecchio, in Via Guicciardini, direction Pitti Palace, in the third gallery on the right, the location of the Machiavelli house.
It is a very quiet, inside apartment.
It is on the Oltrarno side of the river, with an excellent location for sightseeing and shopping.
It is few steps from Palazzo Pitti and Boboli garden, the largest park in Florence.
In the gallery is situated the most famous ceramic shop that is a showroom that introduces the art of Tuscany ceramics. Their ceramics, fruit of the job and the hands of the man on the earth, is rich of colors and shows the same fruits and plants that make this region so loved and admired. mery barrasso purchased this apartment in 2008
This is an investment for my family and my children.
I and 5 of my best girlfriends just spent a fabulous 2 weeks in this apartment. The front of the apartment is on Guicciardini Street and is quite noisy (Florence never seems to sleep), the back bedrooms are much quieter. Just be sure and bring some earplugs! Mery, our host, was very helpful with any questions we had and made us feel very welcome. She gave us 3 sets of keys which was appreciated. The apartment was clean and all the beds were comfortable. The kitchen had all the comforts of home. Be prepared to buy all your own paper products (coffee filters, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins). We also bought dishwasher soap while there. We brought our own coffee and filters (cone type) with us. The location of this apartment is excellent for getting to all the major areas of the city on foot. The train station was about a 20 minute walk. The Pitti Palace was about a half block away. We flew into the Florence airport and took a taxi to the apartment (about 23 euro) and Mery called and arranged for a taxi to pick us up for our return to the airport (about 28 euro). Don't know why it cost more to leave except that it was awfully early. We had to leave for the airport at 5:45AM and the taxi was right on time. The airport was very crowded, so if you fly out around 7:30am, plan on getting to the airport 2 hours early! There is a close neighborhood grocery ran by a very friendly old man and his wife. They don't speak english but our limited Italian worked ok. There was an internet cafe and pay phone close by also. We had a bit of a search for a SIM card for our cell phone, across the bridge and past the covered market, two blocks then go left (I think) was a cell phone store (TIM). We just returned to them every time we wanted to buy more minutes. They do not speak English! Mery also recommended a nearby restaurant (4 Lions) that was very good. Great art in the Pitti Palace! If you need a 3 bedroom place, this is it! Have a great vacation.
We spent 3 nights at Mery's apartment recently and found it really good. Having been to Florence before the location is great, very central to all the main sites and we walked everywhere. It's just down from the Pritti Palace as well which is worth a visit. It was very hot during our stay and although the apartment has ceiling fans in the bedrooms we did find it difficult to cool down. The apartment itself is fully equipped with all you need for a family or group stay. We ate in a couple of evenings and this worked out well. There is a great little supermarket just around the corner that is reasonably priced. Thanks Mery for everything and we will definitely be recommending this apartment to our friends.
We were 6 adults we stayed 3 nights and the apartment was very nice and clean.
This is a great location, you can walk anywhere and the bus stop is very close if you need to use the bus. We did the hop on hop off bus for touring the city, that is the only way to go.
Mery the owner is very nice and helpful if you need anything. The apartment also has a washing machine which was very helpful since we were traveling all of Italy, we had brought a clothes line and some clothes pins with us on the trip, so that came in handy. The apartment was very room for the 6 of us, it has a nice balcony, the windows open up to the streets and it was very cultural. The area is very nice , and a good location if you have no car, I walked to the bakery across the street every morning for breakfast, there are many places to eat near by and Piazza Spirito is right around the corner with many pubs and eateries also. The Vecchio Bridge is right down the street. I would give it a 10. It also has a elevator , most places don't have elevators so that was a plus. Mery thanks for the stay and you are a great host we felt like family.
The apartment location was perfect. Close to everything. Meri is a fabulous hostess. The furnishing and style represent a traditional Florence home. Everything we needed was available in the apartment . towels, dish soap, toilet paper sugar coffee and some spices. We loved the market close by and cooked almost every day. The lift was perfect to bring the luggage up and down but we preferred the stairs to walk off some calories. thank you Meri for assisting us with a minor medical issue. Pam,Bob,Edwina,Pasquale and John.
We enjoyed 4 nights in this apartment. There were 5 of (me, my husband, two children and my mother). The place was spacious enough for all of us. The layout is somewhat unusual as there is not a big "living room" area, but there is a couch to sit on and a nice big table with chairs that we used for sitting around. We appreciated being very close to a grocery (just around the corner) and just across the river from the main attractions of Florence. There are many good restaurants in the area and we particularly liked being able to stroll around in the evening.
First of all, I don't really understand how people can rate this with more than 2 stars.
The only thing deserving 5 stars is the location, just a few steps from Ponte Vecchio and lots of nice restaurants in the area.
As for the apartment itself: It is spacious and has an elevator. Thats it.
I'm sure it has seen better days, but right now it is just an old apartment with old furniture, can't say it is dirty, but can't say it is clean. I found a lot of dirty dishes inside the cabinets as if they were clean, so I had to wash some dishes in order to use them. It just looks old and lacks a lot of maintenance.
It has an old a/c unit that kind of works but it keeps dropping water all over the living room area, and doesn't have a single button that works. It barely keeps cool the living room area. The bedrooms have ceiling fans. In one of the bedrooms you can't use the fan because it sounds like it's going to fall on your heads you end up using a desktop fan. In the other two bedrooms you can use them but you have to find the speed that makes the least clacking noise.
The kitchen cabinets have a door with broken hinges. The door for the cabins that stores the wet dishes after you wash them, is missing a lever so it will fall on your head, if you are tall enough, but at least you can hold the door with your head while you store the dishes. All of these things just show the lack of maintenance. not enough power outlets, some of them broken and unusable and must use an adapter, provided by the owner but just one, so you only can use one thing at a time.
The tv. Is an old big tube tv. It didn't work at first but after playing around with the mass of cables connected to it, it worked. It had terrible image and flickered a lot, but when you are in Florence you don't watch too much tv so that's not a terrible problem.
One of the toilettes kept pouring water once flushed and I had to take the cover out and look what happened. It had some some wires fixing a broken lever so decided not to use it.
We met the owner just the night before were leaving since the keys were given to us by a friend of her. The day we checked in, she, the owner's friend, told us that she was not the owner and she didn't know anything about the apartment so she couldn't help us. The owner was supposed to arrive a couple days after, but she never called or checked how we were doing. I never called her because none of the issues were going to be solved while I was there.
