Pretty sure God lives close by

  • 5 of 5

We've been here in Jan, May, June and October. Always the same cool weather. Always the same spectacular blue skies (except when stormy weather). Always the same views and fireplace (throw in a stick and a match and you have a fire!). Always the same wonderful hosts. Queenie's, Elk Store, Anderson Valley, Bowling Ball Beach, crashing ocean and the sea cave in Whitewater Cove. Could watch for hours. Kim and Mike, thanks again for string this home with us.

best rental we've ever stayed in

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week in early/mid-April. Based on the photos & reviews of Whitewater Cove, we had high expectations--and Whitewater Cove surpassed them! The house has beautiful views, is nicely decorated (and very well maintained), and very comfortable. The beds and linens are high quality and super-comfy. There's a seating area in the den with 2 couches, which were very comfortable for reading in front of the fireplace, napping, & watching movies.

The house has lots of amenities, with everything we needed for cooking (gas burner stove, Calphalon pots, etc) & lots of extras that, in our experience, are rare in rental homes (all kinds of spices, coffee, olive oil, baggies, plastic & aluminum wrap, etc). The owners provided thoughtful little touches like a binder with useful info on the house and surrounding area, and a bottle of wine waiting for us upon our arrival. And they don't skimp on supplies--in addition to the well-appointed kitchen, there were ample supplies for everything we needed (detergent, toilet paper, first-aid kit, firewood, dishwashing detergent, etc--the only thing missing was Kleenex). This may seem like a strange thing to comment on, but after staying several places where there was *'just* enough to get us through our visit, it was really nice to stay somewhere that we didn't have to wonder if we were going to need to run to the store to re-stock.

The master bedroom has a gorgeous view of the ocean--the pictures on the website don't reflect this, but it's a big plus. And that deck! It's huge! With very comfortable chaise lounges, a two-person deck chair, a hot tub (that was pre-heated for our arrival--a really nice touch), and an outdoor shower with hot water. The house and deck both provide lots of privacy, so you can actually use the outdoor shower as a shower if you want. The deck was also great for doing yoga, with a big tree & a trellis providing shade.

When we made our reservation at Whitewater Cove, we were a little hesitant because we didn't want to spend most of our vacation in a car, & Whitewater Cove is about a 30-minute drive south of Mendocino. But we're so glad we stayed here...the home was the highlight of the trip, & our favorite 2 days of the week were the days we spent at Whitewater Cove just relaxing and enjoying that fabulous view and comfy house. We will definitely be back!

Incredible home with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in the very clean private home near Elk,CA right on the ocean. The photos are realistic as the ocean views are breathtaking from the three tiered deck. Great ocean views also from the living room, dining room right while sitting at the table, and from upstairs bedroom (actually right while lying in bed also). We found ourselves there on the deck a lot and even saw migrating whales from the deck, while sitting at dining room table, and right from the bed upstairs. Incredible indeed! The owner Ann was super nice and dealt with our every need. The home had all the amenities you would need and more especially with extra cleaning supplies above the washer and dryer storage area. We loved the town of Elk and visited many places nearby including Point Arena Lighthouse and stornetta unit, Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and ocean views, Gualala, several nearby Redwood Groves, Ft. Bragg,Bragg and sea glass beach! and loved Mendocino as the whole town is on the National Register of Historic places. It is like you are back in time looking at the historic houses and businesses. There are many nearby state parks that are free in and around the Mendocino area. We loved the views and saw seals and saw several more whales at Mendocino Headlands state park that surrounds the city.mwe would highly recommend this home to anyone who likes spectacular ocean views and sunsets and the quiet privacy and comforts of a lovely home. Had a wonderful time in this truly beautiful part of the world!

Extraordinary Home and Views

  • 5 of 5

Rarely do destinations really 'look like the pictures,' but our visit to the Whitewater Cove FAR exceeded the pictures. We had an amazing time and the home was everything as advertised and more. Additionally, it was so thoughtfully appointed/outfitted, that I was laughing at myself with all the 'extra' stuff I figured I needed to bring, especially for the kitchen. It was our first time to that part of the northern coast and the views from the home were simply breathtaking. It was also apparent how much love and care has gone into the home as it appeared to be in amazing condition at every turn, both inside and out. Also worth mentioning is how responsive the homeowners were in handling the arrangements both prior to and following our stay. All correspondence was handled via email and was extremely quick and timely. Thank you Kim for such an amazing experience and the privilege of staying in your home:)

Absolutely outstanding!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for an amazing place to get away and enjoy something incredible, look no further than this place. My wife and I spent three nights at Whitewater Cover, and without a doubt, this is one of the best getaways we've ever had. We've traveled extensively throughout the USA, and also abroad in Europe. To me, this home is the classic "pictures-don't-do-it-justice" type of place. When we arrived late evening, it was too dark to fully see the surroundings, etc. We woke up the next morning to a jaw-dropping view of the Pacific, and couldn't believe our eyes. So secluded, private, and dramatic. Loved the hot tub -- we relaxed in it every night, watching the sun go down. The house is well-thought out in comforts, amenities, and attention to detail. Beautiful landscaping and setting. The fireplace was a great place to curl up at the end of the day. We drove in from San Francisco, and though it was a bit of a drive to get to Elk, it was totally and completely worth it. Above and beyond our expectations in every way! We are already looking forward to coming back here again!!

Beautiful secluded home with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

We spent three fabulous days at Whitewater Cove from Sept 8-10, 2015 and could not have been more impressed. The house is situated on a cliff that overlooks the ocean with magnificent views from all sides from their expansive deck. The hot tub is perched right at the edge of the deck and offers the best view you can imagine of the beautiful sunsets. The house was impeccable and every care and thought went into providing all the conveniences of home, including subtle night lights that came on as you navigated around the house in the evening. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was also a barbeque grill. The views in the evening were so spectacular that we made dinner there every night. There was no better view of the sunset to be found anywhere in the area! There are only three other houses nearby so it is a very secluded location, yet still close enough to Mendocino to enjoy the sights and activities there as well. If peace and solitude are what you're looking for in a magnificent setting, this is the place to go. Kim and Mike were wonderful hosts and made our entire visits smooth and flawless. Without a doubt, we will be going back to this gem of a place on the Mendocino coast.
