Forested hillsides reach down to valleys cut into limestone bedrock by cold-water trout streams. Forests, prairie remnants, wetlands, and grasslands provide habitat for wildflowers and wildlife. Land is farmed by the descendants of those who first settled here, by the Amish who adopted the area, and by a new breed of organic farmer. Artists, who need look no further than their own backyard for inspiration, create works of infinite variety.

The great diversity of the Driftless Wisconsin area means something to suit the taste of every visitor. You can simply enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside with a good book, a cup of coffee from a local roaster, or a glass of wine from a local vineyard. You can don your waders and hope to outwit a brook trout on a cool foggy morning. You can get on your bike and wind your way through magnificent scenery. You can shop for art, antiques, handmade furniture, artisanal cheeses, or locally-grown foods.'

Country Charmer!

  • 5 of 5

Great little getaway cabin, well-equipped with modern appliances (including washer/dryer) and satellite tv. Enjoyed the beautiful walking paths on the property, and the quiet. Easy access to Madison and Spring Green attractions, as well as to local hiking and biking trails. Owner very helpful and nice.

Great place to relax and enjoy nature

  • 5 of 5

We've been staying here for our vacations for many years. Dale is a great guy and keeps the property in excellent condition and goes out of his way to make your stay easy, comfortable, and quiet. Beautiful grounds and setting in rural driftless Wisconsin.

Nice cozy place

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent three peaceful nights here and loved it. The property is beautiful, and we took advantage of the nicely-maintained trails on-site. Dale is a courteous and helpful host. I'd definitely go back!

Excellent experience, accessability, and Layout

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area to visit Taliesin and the House on the Rock and didn't want to stay in a hotel. Dale met us and showed us around the property and the home and made sure we had everything we needed. All his recommendations for local restaurants were spot on and we enjoyed the surrounding communities and close proximity to the Spring Green area where we spent our days. We highly recommend the cottage for anyone wanting a relaxing escape with privacy and quiet. Sunsets are beautiful from the property as well.

The epitome of peace and tranquility!

  • 4 of 5

We could not have found a more peaceful getaway. The natural views of the hills and bluffs were as beautiful as the Smokey Mountains. The birds and wildlife were so active - it was like you were in your own nature sanctuary. Dale was a gracious host and we have to say, though the cabin was small (which we knew when we booked it), we found ourselves in need of nothing. Dale has manicured amazing trails on the property that are so enjoyable to walk. This cabin is in a great location to branch out in all directions to other sites and attractions. For example, a picturesque drive south on Hwy. 130 will take you to Governor Dodge State Park. The drive and the park were MEMORABLE!! This was our first trip to the "Driftless Region" and we fell in love with it. Can't wait to return!
