Forested hillsides reach down to valleys cut into limestone bedrock by cold-water trout streams. Forests, prairie remnants, wetlands, and grasslands provide habitat for wildflowers and wildlife. Land is farmed by the descendants of those who first settled here, by the Amish who adopted the area, and by a new breed of organic farmer. Artists, who need look no further than their own backyard for inspiration, create works of infinite variety.
The great diversity of the Driftless Wisconsin area means something to suit the taste of every visitor. You can simply enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside with a good book, a cup of coffee from a local roaster, or a glass of wine from a local vineyard. Whether for a weekend, a week, or longer, you’ll enjoy your stay at DaleWood Retreat, Trails & Slopes.
Great little getaway cabin, well-equipped with modern appliances (including washer/dryer) and satellite tv. Enjoyed the beautiful walking paths on the property, and the quiet. Easy access to Madison and Spring Green attractions, as well as to local hiking and biking trails. Owner very helpful and nice.
We had a great time at the cottage. The location is like something out of a story book. Seriously: mountain views and several outdoor seating areas that let us have spectacular sunsets, stargazing, and a fire pit. We took advantage of walking on the property's private trails, too, which were lovely.
I loved that the cottage had a stocked kitchen with pots, pans, bowls, and other kitchen tools so we could cook most of our meals. But the local restaurants were a treat, too. The place was super clean and tidy, and had some nice bonuses like satellite TV and Internet that I wasn't expecting. We knew we wanted to come back after the first night there, it blew our minds.
Dale was nice to talk to and I think it's obvious takes a lot of care with his land and property. It was perfect for a getaway weekend. This trip was a surprise for my friend and she was very happy with how everything turned out.
This is a great place to stay...beautiful view...lots of walking paths..very clean and very well equipped with every amenity you might need. Loved the sound of the waterfall outside our cottage and enjoyed a couple of campfires. The sunset was beautiful!!
I cannot say enough about what a great cottage this is and how Dale was so friendly and helpful and has made the cottage so homey you don't want to leave!!
I would totally recommend this cottage to anyone that is looking for a view, quietness, relaxation, and feeling right at home!!
Also had good food and fun at the Route 14 bar and grill close by.
Thanks Dale for sharing your wonderful cottage with us and hope to return!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Dalewood Retreat recently. The cabin was very clean and Dale made sure we had everything we needed. The property is beautiful as well.
Simple, comfortable accommodations, with the addition of some basic items that you'll appreciate having ( coffee, creamer, tea, etc.) So much better than staying in a hotel and for about the same price, you can't go wrong. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing in the upstairs area at the end of the day - was very quaint and cozy. We will definitely come again on our next trip to the area.
A great place to stay located in a rural setting. Dale provides just about everything you would need, just bring your own food. We spent days out sightseeing going to Wisconsin Dells, The House on the Rock, and visiting farmers markets. Would stay here again if we are in the area.
