Check out our website for more pictures and information: www.stoweescape.com

The house has solid maple flooring in all the bedrooms, Anderson windows designed to maximize the morning light and spectacular mountain and valley views. Both bathrooms include custom built cedar vanities and marble / granite counters. We have recently enhanced the lighting, rebuilt the stairs and decks off the kitchen and driveway, replaced the living room furniture with a brand new couch and leather side chairs, and cleared and topped to open up the spectacular views (Fall 2016). The house also has state of the art laundry facilities, 2 flat screen LCD televisions, and a breakfast bar with kitchen pass through and modern leather bar stools. A Weber propane grill sits just outside the kitchen on the deck.

Caretaker: The house includes a small Caretaker's apartment. Our basement apartment has a separate entrance. It is occupied by a single long term tenant who ensures that the house is always safe and secure. Our caretaker/tenant is a member of the local community and has been for years. He ensures that the walkways are shoveled during the Winter months, making first tracks easy to get to! Our guests often do not even know our caretaker is in residence, unless they see him shoveling out the front door after a big storm!

About Joshua Slen

Picture is of me and two of my brothers when we were kids. Can you guess the decade? I live and work in Stowe, Vermont with my wife and three kids. We are avid skiers, hikers, and bikers. We enjoy all the Green Mountains have to offer and are thrilled to share it with our guests.

Joshua Slen purchased this house in 2005

Why Joshua Slen chose Stowe Area

We love that the house has views, privacy, is minutes from town, and is on a paved road. When we lived here we enjoyed sledding and playing with our dogs in the yard and running and biking right out the door.

What makes this house unique

Multiple decks: one small private deck off the master bedroom, a kitchen deck, and a balcony off the living room. A fenced yard for dogs. A 240 volt exterior outlet for our guests driving electric vehicles.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Property was perfectly close to everything, but far enough to have privacy, great views, fence and willingness to accept dogs was great! Neighbor very friendly too. Full kitchen with everything you could need, very accommodating. Dark, great for stargazing!

Thank you very much, I would definitely come back.

Good Value in Stowe

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed in this home for 8 weeks and are planning to stay next winter for another 4 weeks. Obviously, we are very happy here. Not only is the view great, but the house is comfortable and easy to live in. I prepared most meals easily in the well-stocked kitchen with Cuisinart pots and pans and with all appliances in good working condition. Sleeping on a very comfortable king mattress in the master bedroom is like being in a tree house. The 2 upstairs bedrooms also have comfortable beds and accommodate another 4 people. When we arrived, the house was immaculate with a large supply of clean towels and sheets. The washer and dryer are top of the line. While we were there, we had two minor maintenance problems, so by email we contacted Josh who was at the house both times within the hour. He resolved both the issues and reinforced that he did not mind being called. The downstairs tenant was very respectful and quiet. He kept the steps and deck cleared when it snowed. A plow service comes when there is more than a 2-3 inch snowfall. In summary, our happiness with the house comes from being able to find an affordable, comfortable home in Stowe with a mountain view without all of the fancy “extras” that only increase the rate. The drive to the slopes is only 15 minutes and 5 minutes to town.

Beautiful chalet for a wonderful family vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful family vacation with everything you could possibly want or need in a vacation home. The location was close to town only 10 minutes from Town centre and only 20-25 minutes from the Stowe ski resort. It's a beautiful home with 3 separate bedrooms for our adult children and their spouses. Having the fenced in back yard was great for my sons chocolate lab and the double gate on the veranda also helped keep her contained. It's a very cozy and warm home, with the most amazing selection of movies you could possibly want. We had lots of trouble deciding which movies to watch during our stay. The entertainment system was top notch and it was nice not to have to go anywhere to be entertained especially after a full day of skiing. The beds were extremely comfortable with lots of extra blankets and towels available if needed. The owner returned our call quickly a few days prior to arriving and was very nice and helpful. We would absolutely stay again if or when we return to the Stowe area.

Amazing rental!

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home during the off season (late May)- spent a long weekend there with friends. The home and property are gorgeous! Beautiful views of the mountains and lovely landscaping. The home was very clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was stocked with essentials needed for meal prep and there were tons of movies to choose from for a night in relaxing! I'll definitely plan to return!

Lovely property with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

We found the property to be even better than the photographs on the website. I think Joshua has had some trees at the front trimmed and whilst we weren't there at the very height of the fall there were still some amazing colours and with the lovely church at Stowe in the distance it really was lovely. We did have a bit of a hornet problem when the sun was out but I have alerted the owner about that.

We liked all the rooms, although as a couple we only used one bedroom, and the living room is particularly spacious. I would imagine it would be lovely at all times of the year with that great fireplace. The views from the main bedroom are also good.

You are a good ten minute drive from town which can be a pain if you want a drink with a restaurant dinner so we tended to self cater. There are some beautiful drives around the area.

All in all we were very happy with our stay and Joshua responded promptly to all our enquiries. You don't see a great deal of the tenant underneath but he is a very friendly chap when you do come across him. It really does feel like your own (not so little) cottage in the woods.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed the views. We did have the trees topped and trimmed this fall to open up and maintain the fantastic views. We also rebuilt the walkways, stairs, and kitchen deck this Fall. Cheers!

Remodel in progress?

  • 2 of 5

We stayed in this home Sept. 28-Oct.2. When we first arrived, the home was obviously undergoing some updates. You will be climbing 22 steps to get in the house. Once in the house we were surprised at how unkempt it was. The furniture throughout the home is badly worn and pieced together. The king bed downstairs looked as though someone had been sleeping on it, so we opted for the queen bed upstairs. To get upstairs you will climb a metal spiral staircase that was covered in dog hair and it's very dangerous. I personally do not believe it is up to code. The bedding on our bed was very worn and had stains on the sheets. The tv upstairs did not work! The tv downstairs was so filthy, and I do mean filthy. I used my iPad cleaner to clean the screen. The cords connecting the tv were just strewn all over behind the tv - to me creating a fire hazard. The kitchen was very poorly stocked. It comes with a gas stove and they have purchased very inexpensive aluminum pots and pans to be used on it. Which then means everything sticks to the pan! Also, there is no cookie sheets nor pizza pan. The cabinet above the stove had spices, oils, and a few other things in it that were expired and had mold on them. We cleaned that cupboard out!

On the positive side, the view out the sliding glass door was beautiful. I wish there was some descent chairs to go sit out on the porch instead of the broken down ones that were provided! And the washer and dryer were awesome!

To sum it up, no - I would not rent this home again. With the spiral staircase, it'd be very dangerous for little kids.

The person who lives in the basement apartment is very quiet. Didn't even know he was there most of the time!

This home needs some TLC and a major cleaning job!

Owner's Response: We truly appreciate candid feedback that helps to make our house more enjoyable for future guests. I am so sorry that the house did not meet this guests' expectations and wish that the guest had indicated any of their concerns when I checked with them after their arrival or at anytime during their stay. I encourage our potential future guests to read our outstanding reviews which all indicate that I am very responsive to concerns and work quickly and diligently to resolve issues when they arise. Please do not hesitate to contact me if anything does not meet your expectations. The walkways and stairways as well as the kitchen deck were completely rebuilt this fall to provide safe and easy access from the parking area to the house. The spiral metal staircase used to access the two second floor bedrooms is as pictured. The property is meticulously maintained and meets or exceeds all building code requirements. All sheets and towels are replaced annually and more often as needed. There are two sets of sheets for every bed. The extra sets can be found in the bottom drawers of the dressers in each room. We know that some folks like different types of pillows and sheets so you will find a variety of sheets and pillows. Both TVs are in functioning order and have Satellite service. If you have any trouble using the electronics in the house please refer to the laminated instructions in the living room. If you still encounter difficulties please contact me. The kitchen is robustly stocked, including cookie sheets which can be found in the drawer under the oven and stainless steel pots and pans. If you have particular cooking items that you require please contact me in advance to confirm if the items are available. Our cleaning company is bonded, insured, and committed to the highest levels of cleanliness. Please check out the many reviewers who have noted the well kept condition of the house. If you arrive and find this not to be the case please contact me and we will make it right. The living room balcony is a terrific spot to enjoy the spectacular views. There are two folding chairs that are kept just inside the sliding doors to the balcony for you to use. Please note that this is a narrow balcony. The kitchen and master bedroom decks are larger and provide more space. We take tremendous pride in providing a high quality retreat at a value price point. If there is anything that does not meet your expectations please contact us right away.
