Beautifully Appointed 1876 country house with sweeping lawns and an expansive, enclosed bluestone patio that is perfect for BBQs or roasting s'mores in the fire pit.
The house itself is spacious & loaded with charm. The kitchen is well-equipped with a butler's pantry formal dining room that seats 12 and overlooks the landscaped garden. A screened-in porch overlooks the lawns in front of the house. The large living room features a dramatic wood-burning fireplace, flat screen TV and comfortable seating. The master bedroom offers wonderful views of the woods and the occasional deer behind the house where acres of private hiking trails begin. The large barn, situated by a stream, has been converted into a game room complete with pool, ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, a basketball game, darts, etc. This insures that even if the weather is bad, there is always something fun to do!
The house is situated between Phoenicia & Woodstock and a short drive from local shops & farm stands.
Hiking Trails: The carriage trails are extensive. We border state land which is approx 150 acres and misc. neighboring land of 600 acres. the use of ATV vehicles might be available.
This was my families 3rd visit to this home in 2 years. The owner Jimmy is very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. The house is a historic home and is in excellent condition. The house was always spotless and stocked with the essentials. The kids loved the pool in the summer and the adults loved the hot tub during our last visit when it was 15 degrees out and snowing. Woodstock is a ten minute drive for restaurants and the market. This is a great house in a great location and my family will definitely will be renting again.
My friends and I spent a fabulous long weekend in this property. We were four adults and four kids under age 7. Starting off with the house, we could not desire for anything more welcoming and well supplied. Kitchen offers all kind of supplies from cooking to baking and you will never miss yours. The dining room is very big and we had nice breakfasts all together with extra fun thanks to all the game boards available. The living room has a big fireplace and the whole ambient is cozy and very relaxing. Nice photography books and a great selection of DVDs. Bedrooms are big and bed extremely comfortable. Master bathroom has an amazing whirlpool bathtub and large shower. The outdoor have nothing less amazing of the indoor. Starting from the beloved-by-our-kids fire pit we probably spent 10 hours in three days in front of it! Smore's were a must. We did not get to use the beautiful pool and hot tub and that is one of the many good reasons to come back with warmer weather. Like if this wasn’t already enough, there is the best private GAME ROOM I have enver seen with my eyes. You have not excuses to get bored, anything you can imagine in a game room is available for you. Least but not last, the property backyard offers a beautiful hike (I am not sure where to, but you can ask more details to the owner if you have questions). It is a real forest with beautiful old conifers and at that time there was a dry stream of water that we used as a trail back home. The last day we were there we saw for the first time in our life an albino deer. All was perfect and, as many other visitors said, you cannot go wrong. Cordiality and hospitality are the pivots of this property! Jamie is very well organized, cordial and absolutely committed to making the best out of visitors’ staying.
Friends and I shared a fantastic week at this outstanding property. The description and the pictures are 100% accurate as are all the glowing reviews by other guests. Jim, the owner, and his trusty sidekick Sara, are engaged and responsive to any questions and ready with helpful tips on how to enjoy the many wonderful nuances of this fabulous home (love the pool lights, Jim!). We enjoyed mornings with coffee on the porch overlooking Tobias mountain, hiking along the extensive private wooded trails, playing shuffleboard in the game barn and the amazing collections on display there, cooking meals together in the well-appointed kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, spending long afternoons and evenings around the pool, hot tub, fire pit - and truly stunning star-gazing. Get outside or stay in: This is so much more here than we could enjoy in one visit. Can't wait to come back next Summer, if not this Fall and Winter. You simply can’t go wrong here!
My family and I spent 8 wonderful days in this property. Jim, the owner, was available and helpful with all of our needs leading up to our stay and then during our time at the house, without being intrusive in any way. The grounds are beautifully maintained, including the large pool which we enjoyed all week. We spent mornings drinking coffee in the hammock, and evening watching the sunset in the adirondack chairs provided on the front lawn. With limited cell service and the tranquil environment it was the perfect retreat from our busy NYC life, and only a 2 hour drive! We will definitely come back in the future.
I can't say enough about this property. This period home is lovingly cared for and furnished and the grounds are amazing. The owner was helpful but didn't interfere with our stay. We were a large group ranging in age from 18-80. We all had a wonderful time. The rooms are large and accommodating with quality furnishings and up to date electronic equipment. The pool and hot tub were enjoyed day and night. The game room provided endless hours of entertainment. The location is just far enough away from the crowds in Woodstock (less than 10 mins) but a short 5 min drive to the market for the newspaper etc. The privacy allowed for the most amazing star gazing in the evenings and quiet time for coffee in the morning in one of the many private outdoor areas. It was difficult to leave. We are already planning our return for the fall and next summer. The pictures that Jim provided are accurate but there is so much more than they show. Just great!!
We had an amazing time time at this wonderful house! Would definitely recommend it for families that like to swim in an awesome huge pool, soak in a hot tub and play tons of games in the game room next to the house (pool, air hockey, shuffleboard, basketball game, etc, too many to name but all of them fun!) Couldn't get my family out of the pool or hot tub, some nights in there until midnight! It was too hot and buggy to try any of the walking trails but might like to come back in the fall and try them. Drove through the nearby Town of Woodstock which looked interesting but didn't have a chance to stop. Ate at the Hickory BBQ on Route 28 which was delicious! All in all, a great time was had by all of us and I would recommend it for all ages..
