Beautiful view, remaining experieince not so good.
We have been to Troncones 2 previous years and like to experience different locations within the area. We booked this property based on description/location. Upon arrival we noticed there was no AC in any areas. (Very hard to deal with given my wife's 83 yr. old mom traveled with us.) All the rooms had ants and bugs, 3 rooms had shower heads that didn't work. Our friends joined us the day after we arrived, and they were greeted by having the family cat pee all over her clothes. Most bedroom doors either wouldn't close all the way due to bad hinges. Screens were broken. No bug spraying in rooms other than with a can of Raid for localized treatments. We killed 3 scorpions (2) in 1 room, & (1) in another. The staff in 10 days would check on us once a day, and unless we requested would provide no fresh shower towels, linens, or pool towels. We love the area and hate to allow one experience taint our future stays, but given what we paid for this property in comparison to others in which we received full continuous service, was very disappointing. I truly believe that the staff was very friendly, but were not provided with the proper resources to do their job correctly. The home needs a lot of care and I am hopeful that the next renter is aware it has no AC, unlike what we thought we paid for.
We had a lengthy and cordial phone conversation about your stay shortly upon your return home. The tone and assertions in your review are starkly different from that. Could it have been that we declined to issue a partial refund when you demanded one via email?
To address your specific concerns:
A/C: At your request, I did call you immediately upon your arrival to discuss the lack of A/C in the room that was listed as having it. At that time you expressed your disappointment, but you were not overly upset. If I had known how critical it was to have A/C in that room, I would have instructed our property manager to buy a portable A/C unit the next day. Showers: Instead of three showers not working as you describe, one of the instant hot water heater pilot lights did go out and was re-lit as soon as you notified staff. The rest were functioning, but maybe you did not feel that the water pressure was adequate. The water pressure in Troncones has been low since the well ran dry (water now supplied via truck). Windows/Doors: Due to our beach side location, the salt air can shift the doors slightly and throw off the alignment of the latches, making it a bit harder to line up, but they do in fact close. Some screens do have slight tears at the edges, but not enough to let bugs in. However, insects can enter rooms if care is not taken to keep doors closed. I understand that doors were left open all day during your stay. This is not a good idea given that Troncones is a semi-jungle environment. We do not blanket spray insecticide so as not to harm the sensitive native fauna. Linens/Towels: Sheets and towels were changed weekly and rooms were cleaned daily. We were happy to provide fresh towels at your request.
Lastly, you violated the Homeaway contract when you arrived with 10 people instead of 8. Initially you expressed a desire to bring 10 guests, but when I re-iterated the house maximum of 8 you said no problem. There was then a subsequent phone conversation shortly before your arrival about your guest breakfast preferences. At that point you surely knew there were 10 people in your party. I would not have taken issue with this, but in light of your review, it bears mentioning as it reflects upon your honesty.
"Wow" is the first thing you say when you step into Casa Las Tejas, for this place feels more like a private resort than a vacation rental. While the house is large and well appointed, it is the lush landscaping and expansive property that make this such a memorable experience. And the views! The outlook from the house and the pool over Manzanillo Bay are simply gorgeous. On more than one occasion we spotted whales passing by as we were sitting in the spacious living area.
I do think that Playa Troncones must be one of the best kept secrets in all of Mexico. The weather is perfect, the water is warm and crystal clear, and the surf is great for surfing and little kids. Really, it doesn't get much better than this. Even during one of the busiest weeks of the year, Troncones feels uncrowded and relaxed. There are a number of great restaurants (Roberto's is very popular), and the cities of Ixtapa and Zihuatenajo are only 30 minutes away on a new highway. And if you want you can rent a boat to take you to Ixtapa Island for snorkeling, or you can go into the cities for golf or other activities. While we had rented cars for our stay, you could probably get by without one.
The staff were warm and friendly and super helpful whenever we had a question or a request. The house is really well maintained, and the grounds are immaculate. We were two families - four kids and four adults - and we felt we had more than enough space.
If you need more action than watching the pelicans dive into the waves from your hammock in the shade of the palapa or sipping a margarita by the side of the swimming pool, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy in Troncones. The surfing is world class with a great break right at the point of our beach. The sport fishing is also world class especially for marlin and sailfish. There are two Robert Trent Jones designed golf courses 25 minutes away. Swimming, snorkeling, boogie boarding, horseback riding, yoga, bird watching, hiking, cave exploration, and mountain biking are all available in Troncones. Small 'panga' boats can be hired in the neighboring village of Majahua for local fishing or exploring the coast.
