Great Stay

We very much enjoyed our visit to Maui and our stay at The Whaler. We have always stayed in a one bedroom, but since our boys have grown up, we decided to rent a two bedroom. We are so glad we did as not only was it nice having the second bedroom, but the unit overall was much larger. The wrap around lanai was huge and the view of Black Rock from the master bedroom was superb. This corner is very quiet as it does not face Whalers Village. Loved the bar table for drinks at sunset.

Condo not even remotely "as advertised". Promises

If you're considering renting this condo, let me warn you about what you'll find when you get there. View was great. Check in smooth and staff very nice. However, when you enter the front door you'll be in for a big and not pleasant surprise. This condo would be considered substandard. If you're like me, you read these reviews thinking sometimes that some people just can't be satisfied. I'm not one of those people. I tried my best to work out my differences with the owner, but after admitting that the condo was in terrible condition, he refused to even consider giving me a 2-night refund on my 7-night stay, saying that I was just trying to put the squeeze on him and why didn't I just leave and find other accommodations when I discovered the condition of the condo. I'd say that's a text book case of blaming the messenger. If you rent this condo and expect anything more than a good view, then you will be disappointed. Knobs missing on appliances, cabinet doors that are just barely hanging on their hinges and door latches that are so worn out, the cabinet doors will not close. Oh yea, if you're planning on going out onto the lanai to enjoy the view, you will definitely need help in opening the sliding glass doors. And if you happen to be a little heavy-set, you may not be able to open the doors wide enough to go thru. Mattresses just a step above sleeping on the floor. Hardest I've ever slept on. Also, take some duct tape with you if you expect to plug in a phone charger. The 110v outlets are so old, the charger plugs won't stay plugged in without tape. Now to the furnishings. One word said 3 times, "old, old, old". Base boards beat all to hell with dirty residue from numerous carpet cleanings. Pictures removed from the walls, but hangers, screws and nails remained. As I said, I tried to be a reasonable voice in this matter and attempted to get the owner to understand why I was so upset and believed I deserved some credit on my rent. But, he's just unreasonable and offered no relief. If you rent this condo and something goes wrong, you will have to deal with an owner that cares little about you. HE WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY WITH THE ATTITUDE THAT YOU ARE NOT IMPORTANT. Good luck! This was our 4th trip to Maui and it is a wonderful place to visit, but if you make a bad choice for accommodations your trip will be less wonderful.

True Kaanaplai Beach

We have stayed in the area North of Black Rock and thought it was Kaanaplai Beach. We found ourselves driving down to the Whaler’s Village area for all our activities. There truly is a difference. The Whaler is right on the beach, close to Whalers’ Village and it has great snorkeling and other beach actives. We never even used our car. This unit was spectacular. The views and the huge lanai were unbelievable. We always had great sunsets. The unit was supplied well and was very comfortable.

Views Everywhere

We stayed in this lovely unit during our visit on Maui. We usually stay in a Hotel, but decided to try a condo. We had never rented from a homeowner before, but it couldn't have been easier. This location is so close to everything and the views from the unit were like what you would see in a travel brochure. The unit was very well supplied and we felt very much at home. No more Hotel rooms for us.

What a Lanai!

This location could not be better. The lanai was huge with fabulous views. I could not get my husband to come in as he really relaxed sitting out there enjoying his music. I too enjoyed the lanai as well as we ate all meals there watching the water crash on shore. The unit was very comfortable and had mirrors that brought the view in even more. It had all the supplies and amenities you could ever want. We will be back.

Great spot right on the beach

We stayed 7 nights in this unit on Kaanapali Beach. The beach is right in front and you can hear the ocean crashing from every room. The lanai was very large and wraps around the entire unit. Views are spectacular of the other Islands and Black Rock. Sunsets were unbelievable. Master bedroom even has views of Black Rock from the bed. Loved the bar table and stools on the lanai. We had a great vacation.
