About bob & judy futrell

Bob is retired law enforcement officer and Judy was a school teacher and hardware retailer. We retired 10 years ago, moved to the NC mountains and built our vacation rentals. We drew on our own vacation experiences and designed and built our rentals to provide you the best vacation possible.

bob & judy futrell purchased this cabin in 2005

Why bob & judy futrell chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Our rentals were designed to be vacation rentals and not just older repurposed dwellings. We built them not just to look nice (which they do), but to be very functional with all the modern conveniences. We have furnished them with everything we could think of to make them comfortable for you. And best of all is the setting. A quiet dead end lane in the middle of the beautiful west north carolina mountains convenient to all the things you come to the mountains for. And did I mention that we are at 3100 feet elevation for a nice escape from the summer heat, but not so high as to be a problem with snow and ice in the winter.

What makes this cabin unique

From the full length covered front porch with Amish built swing and rockers to the full length rear deck with table, chairs and gas grill and everything in between, you will fall in love with this little log cabin built of native red cedar.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you bob and judy for the memories. Tou truly have a hidden gem up here. Well, not really hidden any more judging from all the comments from all over. Beautiful roads, great people and wonderful hospitality. We will keep on coming back for more. Your friendly Canadians, Howie, Krista, Warren & Sara Niagra Falls, Ontario

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and relaxing. We loved everything about this cabin, especially hanging out on the back deck (perfect place for yoga by the way). They were very helpful with any concerns we had as well.

Comfortable and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a great week at this cabin. It's definitely "off the beaten path" but we were very comfortable and the cabin was very clean. We liked being so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and some of the hikes nearby (Crabtree Falls was lovely!), and there are some good restaurants (especially the Tropical Grill in Spruce Pine) and grocery shopping nearby as well. The internet wasn't strong but was enough for us to cover the basics and check our email. Our experience here was great!

The cabin was very cozy.

  • 5 of 5

With the Blue Ridge Parkway access very close, we were able to visit several sites in the area as well as enjoy the views from the overlooks between Linville an Asheville.

Amazing Cabin with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Bob and Judy are some of the nicest hosts that make themselves completely scarce unless you need them. The cabin is beautiful. The front porch is incredibly gorgeous surrounded by ferns and blooming rhododendron. We had everything we needed and are already looking forward to staying here again. Only thing that could have made the stay better was if we were there longer. Cheers.

Second year staying here. Location is great! All the amenities we needed, cabin is clean and smells like cedar, and internet in the backwoods is a bonus. Second year staying here. Highly recommend!

Great house in fabulous location.

  • 5 of 5

If you enjoy trout fishing in western North Carolina, this location can't be beat. It feels and looks wonderfully remote when you're there, but you're really just minutes away from Spruce Pine and Marion. This little house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need. No AT&T service but Verizon was just fine and wifi is provided. We turned the air conditioning off; the cabin is situated to get a really nice breeze. Bob stopped by just in time to swap out a new propane tank for our steaks; the owner is right there if you need them but you also have total privacy. Really nice set up with good parking, attractive landscaping, a porch swing, a nice deck; well equipped kitchen. We especially appreciated being able to have our dog. We have stayed in several rentals and this one now tops the list for a return visit!

Owner's Response: We appreciate Kristina's kind remarks. We are fortunate to get really great renters from all over the world and many who return regularly. We enjoy sharing our little corner of the world with people who appreciate it.
