We took all our kids and grandchildren and also another couple with us to this house. We arrived right after hurricane IKE. We were still able to stay since the oner of the home was able to get her repair person there to make sure everything was in working order.Great location if you have little ones going to the beach. Well equipted with amenties for children 2 and under and toys for the beach for 2 and up.Would stay there again with out hesitation. There is a walmart 20 miles from house were we went and done our grocery shopping. We did not go into town as we were content to just use the beach and the pools that were provided.
My group consisted of 10 people in their 60's and 70's. We wanted a house with an ocean view, close to the beach, bedrooms with private bathrooms and an elevator, all of which this house has. Most of the mattresses were good, with the exception of the twin bed mattresses. The house was one of the closest to the actual beach access. The property managers were extremely good to work with, going out of their way to be helpful. Could this house use some maintenance? Definitely. It has wear and tear issues, BUT, it is a beach house, and that fact alone accounts for some of the issues.
We loved the number of rooms and bathrooms this home offers! The location is also nice. We did have a few concerns that were addressed During our visit .. Light bulbs out, broken light bulb in socket of elevator, air filters in great need of being replaced ( filter in living room black with large hole), clogged drain in downstairs shower, leaky faucet in master, ants in cupboard. We sincerely appreciate these things being taken care of! Other items that need addressed are: mattresses worn out, AC in master seems sluggish, porch loungers need replaced, wooden porch needs some maintenance (My father stepped on a nail on upstairs porch), doors are very difficult to shut ( likely due to moisture and temp.), dryer does not shut off when opened (could be child hazard), The large open dining and living area is great. The grill worked well ( after we cleaned it)! The master bath is large with jet tub and large shower. Ice maker in kitchen is wonderful! Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
We arrived at the property on December 26, 2015. I take my children and their families every year during that week to celebrate Christmas. The worst thing was the sheets had not been changed. My daughter-in-law is very germ conscious and she always pulls back the covers even in hotel rooms. When she did she found a small plastic child's toy between the sheets. So she pulled those sheets off and washed them. So we thought one bed was overlooked. Then my older granddaughter went to bed and found a price tag from a shirt size large from Kohl's. It was not ours and it was between the sheets. So we pulled all the sheets off all the beds and washed and dried them and put them back on the beds. This took quite a while. Also, the pictures on the website are not accurate. Something must have happened to the two sofas in the pictures because the sofas in the house are really bad. The springs are so bad you cannot sit there long. The ice machine does not work. The elevator gets stuck sometimes. One of the deck chairs fell with me in it and I hit the deck. There are no pictures to tell you that you do not have straight access to the water. There is some sort of preserve right in front of the house and you have to walk a boardwalk in front of other houses to get to the beach. Upstairs the two bedrooms facing the beach have doors that have been sealed shut and the door handles removed. The windows have been sealed shut. So if you had any idea of hearing the ocean while you are in the bedroom, it doesn't happen. Also, if it should rain a lot while you are at this house, you may not be able to get to town. There is a low place in the road that flooded while we were there. There are even signs along the road to beware of flooding. The realtor that I rented this from said she would refund $150 for our trouble. She has not and it has been almost three months. I rent a house on the beach every year and I have never had this many problems with a house. I definitely won't be going back to this house and probably not to this area. I believe from now on I will stick to Gulf Shores.
Our family of 12, with ages ranging from 5-80, stayed at Day Dream for a week in May. The open floor plan in the main living area of this home is perfect for large gatherings. The beach is right out the back door and the boardwalk access is only one lot over. The pool is easily within walking distance. We enjoyed being away from the crowds, having the beach to ourselves, and being able to gaze at the starts without the interference from condo or street lights. The tradeoff with this is the nearest major grocery store is about 25 minutes away. Day Dream was great for my aunt, who uses a wheelchair, as it has wide hallways, an elevator, bar by the toilet, and bathing chair in the shower. Tacky Jacks and Coast are two great restaurants nearby. We went deep sea fishing on a charter out of Gulf Shores Marina which is just across the street and it was fun to take the kids over there in the afternoons to watch the fish being brought in. The photos and descriptions are accurate for the most part.
The home was truly great but to point out a few issues: Only ½ of the BBQ grill would light so it took awhile to cook burgers for 12, lacking grill utensils (tongs, grill fork, etc), the shower from the beach was broken but we later found the faucet under the house, the large back deck where we spent considerable time could use a painting.
Overall, this was the perfect home for our family’s beach getaway. We hated to leave but are looking forward to a return visit to Day Dream.
Of vacation experiences, I've rarely had to write a negative review, so I will begin the positive things. The house is nicely decorated and the carpet appears to be newly installed. There were plenty of dishes for our large group of 6 adults, 5 teenage girls and 1 infant. I enjoyed seeing the multitude of spices in the cabinet. The ice machine was a nice touch, but the cleaning light was on and appears to need some maintenance.
Now for some corrective feedback. The pictures of the loft area indicate it is an actual loft, when in fact, it is a daybed in the hallway, top of the stairs in front of the only door that exits to the second-floor balcony between the two master bedrooms. It is one of the busiest spots in the house. I targeted the “loft” for my single grown son to give him a little privacy. He eventually separated the space by hanging a blanket between the two bedroom doors. The map of the property indicates it is closer to the public. While that is great for the adults, the teenage girls had to drive 20 miles to get to the action. I enjoyed the remote location but worried about my girls when they were in town. The amenities list needs to be updated. NO baby crib, NO video game console. Of the 4 (not 6) beach chairs, 3 chairs were rusted and ripped leaving only one functional chair. We could and would have brought our own functional beach chairs, had we known. There were several leaking windows and two of them fell out. One window over the kitchen sink and the second window in the orange master bedroom. This is the window where the baby was sleeping and it was a miracle the baby’s crib wasn’t in front of the window when it came crashing down at 4 a.m. Upon inspection, there was a paper towel stuffed in the window frame presumably to hold it in place. Other broken/non-functional items included the elevator, the fireplace, the outdoor shower and the top rack of the dishwasher. The maintenance phone number was called, when we first arrived, but we never received a response. This is a nice house, but unfortunately, it has not been very well maintained. It’s not the 4/5 star rating indicated by the reviews. One other thing as an FYI. We drove in from Dallas, TX, planning on taking the ferry. We arrived at 3:15 p.m. after being on the road for 12 hours. Not only had the 3:30 p.m. sold out, but the last one of the day at 5 p.m. had sold out as well. We then had to take another 2- hour drive around the bay. Carolyn Scott Naile
