I have owned property at Halcyon Heights since 2005 and my long standing friend Lady Joy has asked me to rent out this villa for her as she is unable to travel from Canada. Although my main residence is the UK my family and I have been visiting Antigua since 1997, being the fifth generation of a well known merchant family living in Antigua.
This property is situated in the gardens at Halcyon Heights and has magnificent views over the Caribbean Sea. On the ground floor it is easily accessible and has all you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay in Antigua. All utilities are included and weekly cleaning and household laundry.
This villa has a large A/C bedroom designed in authentic Antiguan style. The living room is spacious and leads out to the porch where you are able to eat, drink and relax. It is has easy access to the parking area. There is access to a shared fresh water swimming pool with chairs and sunbeds
The view from the villa's screened in porch is amazing. It is nice the porch is screened in, keeps the bugs/mosquitoes out so you can enjoy the view and dining. The walk to Dickensons Bay beach is only 15 minutes downhill, takes about 25 minutes walking back uphill. Walk downhill and take the 1st right after the Halcyon by Rex resort. This is the Sandals employee entrance and takes you right to the beach, where you may catch boat tours, etc.
The amenities were exactly as described in the listing. It was nice to have once a week maid service (towels, linens and general cleanup).
The place was a bit worn and dated, but overall clean, it could use a good cleaning from top to bottom (i.e. dust bunnies under dressers, closet was very dusty and ceiling fans dirty).
We paid 375 BR pounds per week, which included everything. We stayed for 4 weeks. A great value for such a fabulous location. The pool area is very nice, lots of comfortable chairs, and there is some shade in the pool. The grounds were beautiful, and well kept by the groundskeeper. We would recommend this property to a friend.
The view from the villa is incredible - just like the pictures. It is very quiet. Most of the time I too was the only one at the pool, and driving on the left side of the road was challenging. The villa is certainly very adequate and more than worth the price.
Must say that Judy is a pleasure to talk ytyo. She really makes sure everything is in order and ok. It really took some getting used to Antigua because of needing a car and driving on the other side of the road. P.S. if you don't have to drive....dont. the point of vacation is to relax and there is nothing relaxing about the driving here. The villa is beautiful and quite a steal at the price. It's very quiet here and I've been the only one at the pool when I go. We are close to the beach and that is our next adventure. Stay at Halcyon Heights. You won't regret it.
A lovely place to stay near to a beautiful white sandy beach.
There's everything you need in the villa and the residence is well kept.
The only real problem is the pull-out sofa-bed which is extremely uncomfortable. I would not advise this villa for more than 2 people.
The taxi rate to/from the Airport is USD16 or 42 ECD.
Dickenson's Bay is a central location on the northern side of Antigua. Recognised for its mile long sandy beach and local water sports and bars you are able to relax and enjoy the sun, sea and sand. Plenty of local bars and restaurants within walking distance or short car ride. Coconut Grove on the beach is excellent for beach and swimming. The bar is open all day for drinks, snacks and serves full menu in the evening. Places to visit include Long Bay for snorkelling, Galleon Bay, Half Moon Bay and the historic Nelson's Dockyard. Shirley Heights for Calypso and BBQ on Sunday nights. Betty's Hope the last Sugar Mill historic site. Catamaran trips leave from the beach at Dickenson's Bay most days. The town of St John's just 2 miles away is vibrant with markets, duty free shopping, historic cathedral and of course many restaurants and local shops
