wonderful and very accommodating
I was looking for a place to celebrate my 60th birthday and after doing a lot of searching I found Villa Adeste. It's so hard knowing if the pictures do a place justice but in this case it does. The views were really spectacular and having your morning coffee or breakfast on the veranda was just that - picture perfect. The three bedrooms were equal in size so none of the three couples felt slighted in any way. There were plenty of towels provided - that were in great condition (but bring your own shampoo). Cruz Bay is only a 20 minute drive away and once you master driving on the left side of the street it's easy to get around. There was little traffic on the island except in Cruz Bay where all the local action takes place. But with the exception of a meal or two, there is really no reason to go there. The restaurants in Coral Bay were great, the prices were very reasonable and the beaches were spectacular. Charlie and Chris were very helpful if we had any questions - and I had plenty. My only regret is that mosquitos love me so it was difficult for me to hide (anywhere). And there was enough "Off" in the house for me to use which helped - thank you. I would recommend this location to anyone who is looking for a quiet getaway.
We are 30 year residents of St. John and recently housed relatives in Villa Adeste.
We have seen many homes and villas on St. John and must say this had one of the most sweeping and interesting views ever! The outdoor dining and comfortable seating on the expansive deck really made the evenings special. The pool was perfect for
lounging with comfortable chairs and delightful furnishings. We would highly recommend this villa if you are thinking of a dynamite view of Coral Bay Harbor, Hurricane Hole and BEYOND.
My husband and I took our two grown children to St. John for a final family vacation before my son got married. It was our last time that it would be just the four of us. It was fabulous! The house is an ideal location with wonderful views! The road up to the house is a bit scary with the steep switchbacks but we rented a jeep and had no problem. The layout is perfect for a family with grown children and/or three couples but i wouldn't recommend it for a family with young children. The main floor has the living, kitchen and master but to access the other two bedrooms you have to go out the front door and around the house to the lower level. Perfect for our situation but not for young children. The pool was a great place to take a dip after a day at the beach or hiking. The kitchen is functional, we had breakfast at the house every morning but lunch and dinner were out. My only criticism would be I think the home could do with new bath towels. The linens and beach towels were great but the bath and hand towels seem a little sad. We loved Coral Bay and only went to Cruz Bay once during the trip. Coral Bay is quiet and has all you could want without the crowds of Cruz Bay. Skinny Legs has great burgers and painkillers (the local drink) and its literally just at the bottom of the drive to the house. Miss Lucy's has great food and drinks and you're sitting practically on the beach! Indigo Grill was okay, wouldn't go there again. Shipwreck Landing also had great food. Aqua Bistro is also pretty good and in the same shopping area as the local grocery. Groceries are a bit pricey so eating out wasn't that much more expensive then trying to save $$ by eating in. All in all it was a lovely trip! I would definitely recommend this home to my friends and family!
We first visited the "our villa" 10 years ago for our honeymoon, coming with our two kids (adolescent) and my BFF. 10 years have flown by (and the kids just about grown) and we all came back to celebrate and it felt like we had never left – it felt like our island home.
We have only been back to reality 2 days and we constantly are looking back at our pictures and dreaming of being back there -- overlooking the breathtaking view of Coral Bay, hearing the cockadoodle-doo of the roosters and the hee-hawing of the donkeys each morning, and looking up at the crystal clear starry sky every night.
It was great (and a money saver) being able to cook our own meals every day, including lunches to take to the beach (the house has dishes and things necessary for cooking as well as many of the minor things like condiments -- we brought additional things with us from home, trying to limit our purchases at the grocery store on St. John to perishables perishables – Starfish Market in Cruz Bay or Love City Market really close to the villa). Since we cooked in for most dinners, we had limited experiences with restaurants, but of course, we went to Skinny Legs, just across from Sea Grape Road, as well as the Tourist Trap (a fun place, like a food truck, on the way back from Lameshur Bay. My BFF and her husband had a good experience at Indigo Grill before we got there. We ran out of time and missed out on Caribbean Oasis which was on our list to try).
We loved having beach chairs and towels at our disposal for our daily trips to the various local beaches (our tip -- check the schedule for cruise ships in St. Thomas and save going to Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay for days they are NOT in port - it was great!... Maho Bay is another great one... Waterlemon Bay (via hike) is not as beachy and has great snorkeling, but more of a current to be mindful of; Little Lameshur Bay was also nice and a little secret/privately owned beach on the East End - Hansen Bay that charges a small fee to get in). Having a washing machine and dryer at the house helped immensely, allowing us to pack less, clearing room in our suitcases for the non-perishable food we brought on the way down, and souvenirs and rum to bring home!
I'm sure there is so much more I could say, but this is a wonderful place to stay! Charlie and Chris are great to work with and very responsive (and I love how they allowed payment through PayPal!). We hope to book again for our 20th anniversary, if not much sooner!!!
We enjoyed two weeks at Villa Adeste. The house is wonderful, well organized, clean, and well furnished with comfortable covered porches from which to enjoy the view of Coral Bay and surrounding hills. The bedrooms are spacious and have adjoining bathrooms. Charlie, the owner, is gracious and knowledgeable about St John. Chickens, sheep and donkeys provide local color and were a hit with our grand daughter. We found a good selection of restaurants in the Coral Bay area, and grocery shopping was easier than we had expected. The many beautiful beaches are fun for swimming, snorkeling and sailing. We would definitely return to Villa Adeste if we return to the Virgin Islands.
We recently celebrated our son's college graduation. He selected the vacation spot and wanted to return to Adeste.
The owners welcomed us back and made sure his celebration choice was all he desired!
Mornings at Adeste were peaceful with amazing views of quiet Coral bay and Hurricane hole.
Access to the best beaches on the island were easy and close.
Several good dining choices wee close and not crowded. Picnic lunches from pickles, And access to boat rentals was just at the bottom of the hill near skinny legs.
We loved the quiet evenings playing cards and enjoying Cruzan!
Adeste is a peaceful part of paradise!
15 Minute drive to any National Park Beach, beautifully paved road and easy access - 4 wheel drive not necessary.
