About Carolyn Davis

I am a licensed real estate agent. I specialize in the sale of historic properties, land and timber. I live in a small rural town in central Virginia. I enjoy my work, family and travel. In my spare time I spend lazy days at the lookout cottage fishing, crabbing, cooking and relaxing with my three grandchildren.

Carolyn Davis purchased this house in 2007

Why Carolyn Davis chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

My husband and I decided to look for a building lot in the Mathews area. First we found the plans for the lookout cottage and then set out to find just the right spot to build it. When we came upon this lot there were already piles up as if someone had started construction. When we asked the owner why the pile were in place, we found he was starting to build the very same home we had choosen, but decided to enlarge the floor plan and build on the adjoining lot. So our dream home was being built even before we found it. We looked no further and you must admit the view is wonderful.

What makes this house unique

We enjoy the fact that most of the homes around us are occupied by owners who live there year round. It gives us an added sense of being in a community. We love the veiw, fishing and crabbing and never get tired of just gazing out at the incredible view. We have even seen deer on the beach, a bald eagle, swans and dolphin.

The water is shallow and great for children, yet deep enough to dock a boat at the pier.

Beautiful & relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The home is bright and cheerful. Loved to nautical motif, the beach is beautiful - fishing and crabbing is great off the dock. Close enough to Busch gardens and water country (my daughter & her husband took a day for Busch gardens). Short drive to great restaurants and shops - locals are super friendly.

My stay was very relaxing -I truly hated to leave

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful home - we created many fun memories on this trip

Gorgeous home and location!

  • 5 of 5

My family (husband, children of 3,8 and 10 years old & 2 senior citizens) enjoyed the Lookout Cottage very much. it was very clean, nice décor, and a lot of natural sunlight! I could live there! It is definitely away from it all. The kids enjoyed digging in the sandy beach and swimming. I would recommend bringing water shoes because there are some areas that had rocks, but was nice safe swimming. We all enjoyed crabbing for the first time. You Tube videos helped us to learn how to catch and clean them. Watched the birds..especially the heron that was perched on rood the home next to us. We bought garden tomatoes and cucumbers from a local home on the way into town. Church of Francis de Sales in Matthews was a great experience in Matthews...very welcoming and awesome folk group. Bought some pottery from The Poddery in Matthews. We took one day to drive to VA Beach where we saw dolphins, got to play in the surf and crashing waves and come back to the tranquil Lookout Cottage. The owner got back to us quickly with any questions that we had. Great place!

Our home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th time returning to this beach home! We absolutely love it there! It's perfect for our family. It's hard to find a place where everyone is happy! Where you can literally go food shopping and not worry about anything else for the week. This vaction spot fits all of our needs from our 16 yr old son who loves to fish and crab to our 7 yr son who loves to play in the sand to our 13 yr old daughter who loves to shop... We also bring my mother who is sick and its nice and quiet for her! She loves her balcony overlooking the family room! Perfect layout for us. You really can't go wrong with this place. The owners are super friendly too! If your looking to really recharge this is the place to go!

Great weekend with the family

  • 4 of 5

We rented the house for my children and the grandkids so that we could be in Mathews for my niece's wedding. Everyone loved the place. The views, setting, and amenities were all just what we needed. My 9 year old grandson can't stop talking about the crabbing, and my son-in-law wants us to all come back.

So peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at this home. It is very comfortable and relaxing. Even though we got a lot of rain the week we were there (it was a rainy summer for the whole state) we thoroughly enjoyed it. Located in a bird sanctuary, there were a variety of birds to watch. Our favorites were the ospreys, herons & pelicans. We also saw several stingrays & turtles. It was a lot of fun to go crabbing. The views were fantastic. We loved the secluded location and quiet, peaceful surroundings. Just what we all needed to recharge. Our teenagers liked having their own den on the 3rd level. The covered porch was perfect for eating breakfast. On rainy days, the rocking chair was a perfect reading spot.

While New Point isn't a large town, we were impressed with the quality of the restaurants we ate at. We enjoyed Richardson's Cafe & Southwind Pizza. Our favorite meal was at Sandpiper Reef Restaurant even though the decor was kind of dated.

There isn't a lot to "do" locally, but our family was fine with that. We did some day trips to Yorktown, Newport News & Northern Neck. (LazerRush in Newport News was a fantastic laser tag facility!)

The owner of this home was very helpful and addressed one small issue we had with towels. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and we plan on returning ourselves. The only improvement I can think to suggest is a king-sized bed in the master bedroom.

I took a lot of lovely photos of the views that we will enjoy for years to come! (They are on Flickr under the username mylanternhill.)
