About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-10)

Welcome to your very own tropical paradise located in Haena on the North Shore of Kauai. This home is steps from the world famous Tunnels beach. The house is situated on a half acre. It is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, week or two with friends or a family vacation or reunion.

The house is a three bedroom home with that beachy feel you expect in Hawaii. The master bedroom has a California King bed, and an on-suite tropical bathroom with a stone shower. The guest room is light and airy with a queen bed. There is a separate suite that can be used as a second master bedroom or a bunk-room for kids. It has its own bathroom and can sleep up to six.

Enjoy the stunning views of Mt. Makana ( Bali Hai) from the expansive Lani's that rap around the house while you have your coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. If you wake up early take a quick walk to the beach and watch the sunrise, or go for a swim in the warm pacific waters. Sunsets are also memories you'll never forget from the beach.

Our guests love the array of actives that are available, combined with the ability to do nothing and relax. You can choose to swim, snorkel, hike, whale watch, collect shells, surf...., or curl up with a book and take a nap.

Ten minutes away is Hanalei Bay and the Historic Hanalei town. There are great restaurants and boutiques to fulfill your culinary and shopping cravings.

There is a large yard and tropical garden that make the surroundings complete.

There is also a guest house on the property we call, 'The Tree House'. It is a spectacular house with, 'rain forest' granite, and custom hand made copper sinks. The master bedroom has a King bed, with a private bath, and living area that can be rented out with the main house for large groups or reunions. Go to our listing #191072 on VRBO and see the pictures, it's very cool.

The house is everything you'd expect in a high end property, with all the amenities you will need to have a dream vacation.

Beautiful, Spacious Home with Great Location and All the Amenities

  • 5 of 5

The North Shore of Kauai is a truly magical place and Jacalyn's home provided the perfect base to enjoy the beauty of this part of the island. My husband and I and our two adult children spent 8 nights here and found the house to be everything depicted and more. The property is situated in a lovely quiet neighborhood, just a few minutes walk to the beach (where I never missed a sunset!). It was wonderful to have so much comfortable space to spread out or spend time together on the many lanais with beautiful views of the mountains. The house itself was well equipped with comfy beds and plenty of towels and linens. Three bathrooms, all with plentiful shampoo, conditioner and bath wash was a bonus, as well as the wonderful outdoor shower! We cooked at home half the time, and found the kitchen to be well set up with pots, pans and every possible utensil. In anticipation of being somewhat remote, we stocked up on groceries at the Lihue Costco and markets in Princeville and Hanalei. We enjoyed many adventures hiking, kayaking and visiting many of Kauai's beautiful beaches but at the end of the day we couldn't wait to return to our little piece of heaven in Haena. Jacalyn has been wonderful to work with; very accommodating and responsive. Her dining recommendations were spot on (don't miss Bar Acuda in Hanalei) and her spirit of Aloha was infectious. We can't wait to return.

Lovely home in great location

  • 5 of 5

This home was a great fit for our family. It was laid out as described and very well maintained. The nearby beaches were pretty and uncrowded. Na Pali is only minutes down the road and Hanalei is a short drive in the other direction. We stocked in groceries from Princeville and enjoyed meals out on the deck every night. The kitchen was provisioned with all the pots and pans needed for a week's stay. Do bring spices and condiments though. We would love to go back--it's a gem!

Fantastic beach house

  • 5 of 5

We spent several nights at this beach house for a work retreat. Great location near tunnels beach. We snorkeled at tunnels and drove south a bit to Anini beach to swim with the turtles. The house has everything you need to have a great vacation. It's clean and well cared for. Would definitely return next time we are in Kauai!

Lovely Home for Family with Older Children- But Don't walk to Tunnels using the YMCA Access

  • 4 of 5

Very nice home on the North Shore with easy access to beaches and Hanalei. Our daughters loved the huge yard and sand play area under the house. And we all very much appreciated the outdoor shower.

One thing to note that I didn't realize when I rented, there are only two bedrooms in the main house, there is a separate building with the "kids" space. It is only a few steps from the main house, but our youngest was uncomfortable with having to go outside to come and find us during the night. It was also a slight hassle to lock both buildings when we left, an issue that a family with older children wouldn't have.

Also, for those wanting easy access to Tunnels, do NOT take the access near the YMCA- the walk along the beach this way to Tunnels is much longer and due to the slope of the beach difficult for those with ankle or hip issues. Instead, walk about 10-15 minutes along the highway to the first Tunnels "parking" area.

The owner was very responsive to all of our concerns and we would recommend to families with older children who want to be close to north shore beaches!

Owner's Response: We are happy to see that these guests had a good time! As stated in the description of the home, we do have a bunk room. Instead of it being down a covered hall, the hall is a breezeway. The room is just two steps outside of the front door. As for walking to Tunnels on the street! This is a very bad idea as the street is very narrow! Tourists drive down the streets everyday who are not familiar with the roads and walking on the road would not be safe. Just the other day my parked car was hit by a tourist parked on the road just because they were not used to the windy roads. Depending on what time of year the walk to Tunnels can be on a bit of a slant or in the winter it is flat, and yes the sand is very soft! As always if you have any questions we are always here for questions!

Don't write reviews normally but this one Deserves it!

We had a great time and the house we rented on the North Shore of Kauai was as advertised! The lanai was a great place to eat all meals and the location is near some great beaches - even Tunnels was only a 10 minute walk down the road. As noted in other reviews, the guest house in back is also rented but we hardly saw or heard the other guests. The place was clean and well-maintained. Kitchen is not well stocked with condiments but that's ok - we knew it going in which is all that matters. And there is a good grocery store only 10 miles away in Princeville. There is also a great town of Hanalei 8 miles away. If you are looking for a "get-away" with the family and a chance to just veg near the beach, this is it. Last comment is I felt like the Master Bedroom was like staying in a place featured on the Travel channel or Island life on HGTV. Very cool! Thanks to the property manager too who was very good with communications and response times.

Cheers!

Spacious and close to the beach

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family (8) rented the main house and the bunk room. We enjoyed the privacy of a two bed, two bath house and the young people in our group shared the bunk house which had 3 double beds, with one bathroom. Everyone enjoyed the set up. The kitchen was large enough for all of our prep, and the full size refrigerator worked well. We used the BBQ everyday. Thank you to the Barens' family for a home away from home.

PS The beach was just a 5 minute walk, at most, away from the property. Unlike the South Shore, none of the North Shore beaches that we visited were overcrowded.
