About The Owner

Friendly, helpful, social, so often have friends over, but always considerate of our guests and often ask if they would like to join us in an apero. All that said, guests can always have complete privacy if they choose to. The area is very "tranquile" .

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2012

Why The Owner chose Perigord Noir

Things to do/about, the region /Aquitaine.

This Region ie: Vallee de Vezere/Dordogne - "Perigord Noir", has the highest concentrations of Frances' most beautiful villages"." Les Rosiers" rentals/chambre d'hote is in the hamlet of Les Bories, a small working walnut farm hamlet. 2mins walk to the Vezere river. Cross the road to my neighbours farm/ Msr Brasserie to buy walnut oil/l'huille de noix?

The charming market town of Montignac sur Vezere and the famous Lascaux caves /New Lascaux IV centre are just a 5 minute drive to the north, and the pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe a ten minute drive to the South. Next door to that is the amazing Maison de forte Reignac, open to visitors all year round. Chateau de Losse, across the river from here, open May -sept. You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval towns of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house.Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War. The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding.

There are also many attractions such as an aquarium, a treetop adventure park and a heritage theme park. To many to list all here. Those looking to experience the gastronomic delights of the region will find a nearby market in Montignac (4k drive) Wednesday and Saturday mornings. There is the famous market on Wed & Sat mornings in Sarlat, 25 mins drive. There are many opportunities to sample the fine foods and wine that this area is famous for. June to end of August there are the Marche Gourmands /Night markets food music, in local villages. Food, wine dancing. Personal favourite is Saint Leon 6k drive.

What makes this apartment unique

We are on site, not always around and leave you to your privacy we also have things to do places to go pepopel to see:-) but it is I think good for the traveller to have someone there, who knows the area. Often when you arrive at a gites, you let yourselves in and the owner is not on if you prefer to be alone, that works too, but we are there if needed. We love our pool located in the retired tobacco barn. Pool is heated (barn is not:) and open May-Oct. Country walks, access to all the beautiful villages, restaurants, markets, chateaux, caves, rivers that the Vezere and Dordogne valleys have to offer. The heart of the French countryside, truffles, confit de Canard, foie gras, Bergerac wines (Pecharment) vin de Noix, "Isle floatante" :-) delicious. A little piece of heaven IMHO

Guestbook comments from the manager

Les Rosiers is wonderful, one of our favourite ememories is having "aperos" on the patio with Jill. We bought walnut oil from the neighbour's walnut farm. Enjoyed canoeing down the Vezere, and the beautiful walks around the village and neighbouring Chateau de Losse. We stayed a week, but could have stayed longer as there are so many sites to visit in the area. we didn't realise how much the would be yo do here. Comfy bed with fresh Cotten linen was a bonus too.

Bonjour, in case you do not know the region, here are a few suggestion of the many things to do around us. We are in the countryside, but the things to do and see are endless. Unless of course you just wish to relax around Les Rosiers, which is always a choice too. Either way you will never be bored in Perigord. Par contre, even if you do know the area well, it is my experience that there is always something new to discover.

Things to do/about, the region /Aquitaine.

This Region ie: Vallee de Vezere/Dordogne - "Perigord Noir"........has the highest concentrations of Frances' most beautiful villages".

" Les Rosiers" rentals/chambre d'hote is in the hamlet of Les Bories, a small working walnut farm hamlet. 2mins walk to the Vezere river. Cross the road to my neighbours farm/ Msr Braserie to buy walnut oil/l'huille de noix, or watch him make the oil, very interesting and the smell (even from Les Rosiers:) is divine.

The charming (and one of the main reasons that I chose to live here to day) market town of Montignac sur Vezere is 4K away.https://ourfrenchdream.wordpress.com/category/montignac/ Montignac market is Wednesday and Saturday mornings close to the church, local producers selling their good, wonderful. Also in Montignac are the already famous Lascaux caves and after December 2016 there is Alos the magnificent 35million euro, New Lascaux IV centre, see here at http://www.projet-lascaux.com, both sites are just a 5 minute drive to the north of us-4K. The amazing and magical chateau de Commarque http://www.commarque.com/ a 20 min drive away. (Attention it is a 600 metre walk to the site from parking, a lovely walk and well worth it, but you need walking shoes) The pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe http://www.roque-st-christophe.com a ten minute drive to the South, next to the beautuful village, not to be missed, of Saint Leon sur Vezere.

continue in the rd D704 5 mins after Roque Saint Christophe is the wonderful and very interesting Maison de forte Reignac, both open to visitors all year round. Commarque, forte et ville troglodyte. http://www.maison-forte-reignac.com

Chateau de Losse, http://www.chateaudelosse.com/en/ directly across the river from our hamlet is open to the public from May -sept, 5 min drive.

You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval towns of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house.

My personal local favourites in the area are the afore mentioned Roque Saint Christophe, (10min drive) Maison de forte Reignac (15mins drive) and "Commarque" (20min drive) medieval site, (NB: wear good walking shoes if visiting Commarque fabulous fortress, lots of stairs to climb and it's a 600 metre hike from the car, gently down hill, so return is?...yes, but completely worth it:)

Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War.

The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding.

There are also many attractions such as an aquarium, a treetop adventure park and a heritage theme park. To name them all would need a book - the list is endless....! For more see here too.

Those looking to experience the gastronomic delights of the region will find a nearby market in our delightful local town of Montignac sur Vezere (4k drive) Wednesday and Saturday mornings. There is a larger market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in lovely Sarlat, 25 mins drive and a small, but excellent Sunday market in the small village of Saint Genies, 12 mins drive.

You will find many opportunities to sample the fine foods and wine that this area is famous for. (Truffles, duck, foie gras, Bergerac wine/Pecharment)

July to end of August there are the Marche Gourmands /Night markets, which have food, music, wine, dancing and are held in all the wonderful villages around us,  from beginning of July to end of August. Our personal favourites marche gourmands are Valojoulx on a Friday night, 2k away, start around 6:30pm.

Saint Leon sur Vezere, Thursday nights (dancing here) and Saint Amand du Coly Tuesday nights.

Also there is the fabulous annual music festival in Montignac June 21st and the international music festival in Montignac for a week in July.

The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurant and bar, is less than a mile away and has an excellent Auberge/restaurant Archambeau, also a pizza restaurant in Thonac.

Montignac for lunch or dinner has an array of restaurants.
