This luxuriously rustic, quiet, modern, private log cottage overlooks beautiful Green Lake through a stand of 200-year old oak trees and a private park. A breezy twelve-minute walk or half-minute drive (your choice) to Interlochen Center for the Arts further intimates your stay with international arts and entertainment and summer campers from around the world.
Also just minutes away are Crystal Mountain, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Grand Traverse Bay, Arcadia Bluffs, Lake Michigan Beaches, antique shopping, cherry orchards, canoeing and river-rafting, wineries, and several casinos.
Additional recreational pleasures abound; swim, boat (you can moor your own boat outside our cottage or use our canoe and small kayak between May and October), windsurf (we also provide a windsurfer), fish, ice-fish, run, hike, bike, bird-watch (Green Lake is famous for migratory birds), cross-country ski, grill with our Weber, roast marshmallows on an open fire, or just relax inside with music and a good book or watch a movie by our fireplace (many books and movies provided).
Our fully-furnished, two-story log cottage is finished inside and out in knotty pine, and features a large master bedroom with rustic cedar bedroom set and private bath on the second floor, a loft with two twin beds, a second bedroom and bath on the first floor, and sleeper sofa in the annex and a full-size crib to accommodate larger families.
The cottage also features a new widescreen LCD TV, wireless internet service for your laptop, and new living room furniture in the great room and a beautiful unusual rustic dining room set. A full-service kitchen and laundry room with washer and dryer are also provided.
ONE SMALL or MEDIUM size dog allowed ONLY with advance approval. We're sorry, but NO SMOKING is allowed.

Since 1995, we have been an 'Interlochen Family'. We looked for a perfect place to buy for years until we finally found our 'dream' cottage on Green Lake, one mile from Interlochen in 2002. We love sharing our home with other Interlochen families, and with folks simply interested in exploring the arts and the lake, all year round!
Chris Hansen purchased this cottage in 2002
We LOVE Interlochen and we love sharing it with family, friends and guests!
For those who love a good reason to jump in the lake, well, you're 80 feet away.
The cabin was great and the owner was fantastic to work with! The cabin is located near Interlochen, which has a number of things to do. In addition, it is half way between Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City, ensuring that you are never too far from a lot of potential activities. Green Lake is located across the street from the cottage with swimming access, which the kids loved. (The included canoe and kayak were also great.)
The cottage itself was well kept and clean upon arrival. My family really enjoyed our time there. The owner provided good communication and was highly responsive throughout the entire experience. Highly recommend!
This cabin was absolutely perfect! The perfect blend of being out in nature and being close to modern conveniences! The pictures do not do it justice...the bedrooms were large and the living area was so cozy with the fire! We can't wait to stay again!
Shady Grove Cottage was lovely and exactly what we hoped for and expected from the description and pictures. Our family enjoyed the serene lake during a beautiful fall weekend in Michigan with canoeing, walks in the area, and fishing. In the evenings, we had space for family games together or watching a movie. We enjoyed our time here.
Our family - grandma, grandpa, son & granddaughter - rented this cottage for a week, and we were totally impressed by its warmth and luxurious accommodations. Although it's listed as a 2 bedroom, there are 2 queen bedrooms and a loft with 2 twin beds, as well as a little room with a queen sofa bed. Some of the bedding could use an upgrade, as the comforters and duvets are pretty heavy for summer weather. We brought along some blankets that worked better for us. No A/C is NOT an issue...there's box fans there, and it is pretty cool in the evenings and mornings. I loved having a washer & dryer there, as well as a dishwasher...not everything works on a paper plate, and no one wants to pack tons of clothes. (except my son, who packed a ton but still forgot all of his shirts.) Wear, wash, repeat. Looking out across the yard to the lake, and watching the moon rise over the lake is a spectacle not to be missed. Like my son said, Kid Rock got it right, summers in northern Michigan are what we Michiganders live for. We made the trips to the Cherry Festival, Moomers for ice cream, to the air show, and for a canoe trip down the Platte River. The rest of the time, we relaxed with a bonfire and smores in the front yard, took out the canoe and our own inflatable fishing boat, and even sat around the fireplace in the mornings with coffee. This place makes you relax in spite of yourself - even if you do still turn on the tv and watch the Tigers ballgames like we did. There's a couple of bookcases to choose from. I brought one with me, finished it while there, and left it for the rest of you. Trust me, you'll love it.
What a great cottage to spend a week. It went by way too fast. Always so much to do and all are day trips from Sleeping Bear to Machinaw. I am an Interlochen alumni and hope to be back.
This log cabin is a lovely spot for a family getaway. My kids enjoyed the games and books on site and my teenaged daughter loved having a private bedroom. The furnishings are comfortable and clean and we had fun grilling on the deck, walking by the lake, and trekking to Sleeping Bear Dunes and downtown Traverse City. Even off season, there is plenty to do with this cabin as a home base.
