|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Hello and welcome to the Escape Klaus. We are the Klaus', and this is our custom lakefront escape. The Escape Klaus was built to provide a “base” with which to build up lasting family memories. We plan to leave the house in our family for future generations. We hope you find an “atypical” rental that feels more like your own home. We would love for you to come back over the years and share our house right on the lake - in the woods - in the mountains - a perfect way to disconnect from the world and re-connect with your family and friends.

Hello - here are all the Klaus' in one photo - a rare find! - Pam and Ted(29 and holding), Erik(22), Sara Jane(19), and Emma Jo(15). Pam does all the real work & Ted is a product development engineer for Honda. 'BK'(before kids), we lived and worked for 2 years in Japan, prior to settling down in Marysville, Ohio.
Pam and Ted Klaus purchased this house in 2008
We fell in love with Norris Lake after our first visit in 2006. We love the simple beauty of the area, the stillness of 'our' little cove - Powder Mill, and the never ending possibilities that Norris Lake offers to us and to our family. Already we have re-connected with life as a result of building this home away from home! We invite you to build some memories at the Escape Klaus!
We built this house from scratch. Ted did all the legwork - with a wonderful custom plan courtesy of Richard Hlava (Ted's nephew) and the help of a local draftsman, we literally designed this house for us and our guests! From January of 2007 to March of 2009 we bought the land, planned the house, found our builder - Danny Russell, and completed all the details that go into a custom home - we hope you enjoy our house that can only hope to rival the natural beauty of the setting. We choose to build in powder mill based on the location on the lake. Our location is just off the main lake channel on a sheltered East-West Cove. The water in this cove is always smooth. Since the cove dead ends - you do not get all the boat traffic and waves - you can really relax down on the dock. Since the house faces east - even though we are nestled in the woods - you awake to glorious bright sunrises flooding the house with natural light. Powder Mill Cove is home to one of the oldest settlements on the Lake - Chapman Village. We think those early folks picked the perfect spot!!
True relaxation..letting go..re-connecting with family and friends....hearing the kids laugh and giggle..enjoying the stillness of the morning watching the mist on the lake .... catching up on a great book ...boating...fishing....exploring all the local marinas - each one with a different feel. Meeting folks from all over that stay at or live on Norris.
Close by you can enjoy Cumberland Gap National Park, Cumberland Falls, Knoxville, and the Smokies. All of this is best enjoyed by 2 or more families - what a way to enjoy life!
House was great. Very clean and just the right size for our family and our friends family. Kids loved having their own bunks and beds. It was like a big sleepover. The cove was amazing. Very calm waters and perfect views while watching the kids swim. House is close to marinas and places on the water to got get a bite to eat. Would definitely stay here again. Driveway is very steep but we managed with our trucks. There is also 2 parking spots up off the road if you do not feel like trying the drive.
Our second visit to the Escape Klaus and we absolutely love the house, dock, cove, amenities and the attention to detail. Upon arrival, we had everything we needed besides food. Thank you to Pam & Ted for the basket filled with wine for the adults and small toys for the children, such a nice surprise!! It was our 4 year old grandsons first trip to the lake and I know he, his parents and all his aunts & uncles will never forgot all the great memories we made.
Again, Thank You to Ted & Pam for letting us Escape to your piece of Norris Lake.
Your house was awesome! we've been going for almost 10 years and your setup is the best including all the accessories an ammenities in the house. The only issue we had was the 2 ski jackets that were stolen from the dock the 2nd night and there were 3 boat trailer tires stabbed in the sidewall on the 3rd night as we all parked them at the bottom of the road. we want to book for next year but I don't think most want to stay 7 days....5 days max and i know it's a 7 day stay in June/July. The house number at the top of the driveway would be a benefit to new tenants.
We rented the house for a week for our family vacation. We had a total of 13 and it fit our needs well. It was very clean and well stocked with items needed. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of bathrooms for our crowd. In the main gathering are the TV was mounted to the wall in the kitchen area and was hard to see from the seating area the TV needed to be on a hinge to turn it toward the seating area. In the pictures of the house the path down to the boat dock did not look very steep. But, the incline was very steep and there was no hand rail to hold for assistance. The older people in our group did find it difficult to get down and back up from the boat dock. The internet was not very good which was fine but the land line house phone we could not get to work properly. This is a very nice house and the location in the cove was nice but it will not be a house we will rent again..
We recently had the privilege of staying in Pam and Ted's home at Norris Lake over a long weekend. It was a positive experience from start to finish. Pam and Ted were attentive and always available to address questions/concerns before arrival and through the duration of our trip. The home itself sits lakefront in a deep cove. Even on one of the busiest weekends of the year for boat traffic, the cove remained calm and quiet.
The home was great for entertaining, with great space in the lower level which included a projection screen, multi-game table, and bar. the home also had tons of deck space on two levels (including two screened in porches, which were great).
Overall, I'd highly suggest staying in Pam and Ted's home, we had absolutely no complaints!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Escape Klaus. Beautiful home, tons of space, nicely decorated with all of the pluses! The house accommodated our family of 14 very well and the layout allowed the kids to congregate downstairs while the adults visited upstairs. The lake was pretty (although only one fish was caught, not for lack of the boys trying!). The home was very clean and well kept.
Too bad there is such an incline. The driveway was so steep that we all had to park at the top for fear that we may not get up the driveway if it rained. No way would a 2 wheel drive make it up that steep driveway. And the hill to the lake was too steep for me to get to with my bum knee. But you have great views out of the many windows and decks and it is so nice and quiet.
We took a drive to the Cove State Park and had a picnic and spent the afternoon, very nice park just the other side of LaFollette. We also spent a day at the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Saw some bear!! And went to Clingmans's Dome, which is the highest point in Tennessee. Walked around the town of Pigeon Forge. But mostly spent some much needed family times with the kids and grandkids. I have 2 grandsons graduating this year and my object was to have a vacation with them before they go out on their own and that is what we did. Played a lot of games and laughed enjoyed each others company!
Thank you for the use of your beautiful home, our stay with be in our family memories forever!
