About Bill Michels

We are a Twin Cities architect and artist who are always thrilled to spend family time in Duluth. The House and Cottage on Park Point is our little place away from home to do that. We have enjoyed remodeling and updating the house and cottage and turning it into a comfortable home with a relaxing livable atmosphere. It's given us the opportunity to do something a little different that we can share with everyone else.

Bill Michels purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill Michels chose Park Point

The beach is like nothing else in this part of the country, it's like being at the ocean. The water is warm enough to swim in, you can walk forever, and the infamous MN mosquito's are practically non existent because of the breezes off the lake. It's certainly a bonus to be a 15 minute walk down the beach to Canal Park or a short drive to the North Shore of Lake Superior.

What makes this house unique

We are just a bit unique in that there are two units we rent together. Put the kids in one or even grandma if she prefers to have her own quarters. Sometimes it's just a fight to see who gets the cottage!

And of course the location- beach, Canal Park, Lake Superior, the North Shore, restaurants...!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey Bill,Just wanted to let you know....Anyhow that is a gorgeous place, it was the coolest design and decorating, I fell in love with it. I just wanted you to know that you did an excellent job, I felt like it was from a magazine. Thank you for letting us stay in your rental and for letting us bring our pets. We had a great time, and will tell everyone about the greatest place in Duluth. Thanks again.Megan

Eclectic Fun

  • 5 of 5

An eclectic, inviting and comforting home in a great location. Plenty of spaces for conversation, cards, games and cooking - all at one time! :-) Lovely beach access and close to Canal Park for great ship watching, shopping and dining. It was the perfect home base for daily jaunts up the North Shore as well as Duluth and Superior attractions. Thank you Bill and Mary for sharing.

Rustic and Eclectic with nice modern bathrooms and kitchen.

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable, rustic and eclectic. Comfortable beds and although the main house only has two bedrooms it can handle a crowd and sleep 10 -14 with the “Duneside” Cabin and futons and three bathrooms. Direct access to the beach and a reasonable walk to Canal Park. On a cold January night we appreciated all the games and 3 flat screens with DVDs.

Great for extended family groups.

Relaxing and fun!

  • 5 of 5

This stay exceeded my expectations. We booked the home to share a traditional American Thanksgiving with some friends visiting from Germany who had never celebrated this holiday and who had never seen Lake Superior. We prepared an entire meal and enjoyed it together around the dining room table. Clean, uniquely decorated, and very charming. Would definitely stay there again. Had everything we needed and then some. Loved watching the sun rise on Lake Superior.

Happy memories made here!

  • 5 of 5

Great central location for my family who came from Hayward, Wi, the Iron Range and North Shore. The house held a bustling group of adults and children with ease, never felt crowded. A half hour walk to Bentleyville, a wonderful beach, and nice fire pit to cook hotdogs.

Everyone loved the whimsical feel of the two cottages. Plenty of blankets and pillows, and both places were warm and cozy dispite cold outdoor temps. If I could offer some suggestions it’d be nice to have some hooks for clothes in beach house bedroom and needs a firmer mattress. The coffee maker didn’t work but I brought one from home. Ample sleeping for everyone! We’re already discussing plans to come back. Loved it!!

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience of renting a house and it was perfect! We loved the house, location and he house literally had everything we needed. We had a bonfire and sat at the dining room table playing games and stayed up way too late. We would definitely stay there again. There was plenty of space for everyone to hang out but still have their space. Great stay with a great value
