About Bill Michels

We are a Twin Cities architect and artist who are always thrilled to spend family time in Duluth. The House and Cottage on Park Point is our little place away from home to do that. We have enjoyed remodeling and updating the house and cottage and turning it into a comfortable home with a relaxing livable atmosphere. It's given us the opportunity to do something a little different that we can share with everyone else.

Bill Michels purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill Michels chose Duluth

The beach is like nothing else in this part of the country, it's like being at the ocean. The water is warm enough to swim in, you can walk forever, and the infamous MN mosquito's are practically non existent because of the breezes off the lake. It's certainly a bonus to be a 15 minute walk down the beach to Canal Park or a short drive to the North Shore of Lake Superior.

What makes this house unique

We are just a bit unique in that there are two units we rent together. Put the kids in one or even grandma if she prefers to have her own quarters. Sometimes it's just a fight to see who gets the cottage!

And of course the location- beach, Canal Park, Lake Superior, the North Shore, restaurants...!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey Bill,Just wanted to let you know....Anyhow that is a gorgeous place, it was the coolest design and decorating, I fell in love with it. I just wanted you to know that you did an excellent job, I felt like it was from a magazine. Thank you for letting us stay in your rental and for letting us bring our pets. We had a great time, and will tell everyone about the greatest place in Duluth. Thanks again.Megan

Eclectic Fun

  • 5 of 5

An eclectic, inviting and comforting home in a great location. Plenty of spaces for conversation, cards, games and cooking - all at one time! :-) Lovely beach access and close to Canal Park for great ship watching, shopping and dining. It was the perfect home base for daily jaunts up the North Shore as well as Duluth and Superior attractions. Thank you Bill and Mary for sharing.

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience of renting a house and it was perfect! We loved the house, location and he house literally had everything we needed. We had a bonfire and sat at the dining room table playing games and stayed up way too late. We would definitely stay there again. There was plenty of space for everyone to hang out but still have their space. Great stay with a great value

Perfect for our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our daughter got married at the Beach House on Saturday afternoon, and this was a perfect home base for some of the immediate family. It was nice to not have to worry about getting "bridged" at the last minute (which happened for some..... ) and a great refuge for before and after the big day. The house was very clean and cozy; the kitchen had everything that we needed and a dishwasher to help with clean up; some of the kids enjoyed the fun board games in the evenings; we used the gas grill one night and the weather was perfect to sit around the fire pit the day after the reception; it was easy to walk out the backyard, over the dune and down to The Lake. We're big recyclers, and appreciated the accommodations for that. It was unseasonably warm while we stayed here and, though the windows open, they didn't all have screens (which was absolutely no problem for us this weekend). No AC, so the ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms were put to great use. The house has hardwood floors and lots of neat rag rugs, which I just rolled up and moved out of the way so my 89 year old dad wouldn't trip on them. We would have loved to spend more time here.... and I have a feeling we'll be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you JAN for the great review! FYI- we do have AC in the house, it's controlled by the thermostat and maybe it wasn't turned on to cool...? It was added last year and has been a treat for those warmer days. And please do come back anytime!

As always, a great stay!

Our 8th stay, and they have all been great. We love the amenities that are there every time, and searching out what is new and different. Great house and cottage, and a great location.
