About Cath Davis

Retired from the IT rat race now living in France.

Why Cath Davis chose Cotes d'Armor

We fell in love with Dinan the first time we visited it, the combination of a walled medieval town with a bustling port is unique certainly in this part of France. There is always something to do - even if it's just watching the world go by from a creperie on the banks of the river. There are heaps of places to go and things to see in Brittany but nothing beats a lazy afternoon by the river with a good bottle of red ! Rue du Four is the ideal location to explore from or to just hang-out at. Sitting on the terrace in the evening sun can't be beaten.

What makes this house unique

This little house overlooks the river Rance and the port of Dinan. It is a fabulous base for walking and cycling as there are tow paths in both directions along the river. There are several restaurants in the port, a 2 minute stroll accross the bridge, so you don't need to drive anywhere in the evening. A more challenging walk is up the famous Rue du Jersual into the medieval town itself.

Location location location!

  • 5 of 5

We shared this rental with another couple, the four of us were breathtakingly surprised by the convenient and spectacular proximity to the beautiful cobbled medieval hillside streets of Dinan just over the bridge. The house and its location provides an excellent start to exploring this remarkably beautiful region.. Cath Davis was extremely helpful with helping us get bicycles delivered to our door! The bikes allowed us to explore the towpath (right outside our front door) along the river both north to Dinard and south to the exquisite smaller towns along the river. I highly recommend anyone staying here to head south to Lehon by bike or foot, packing a picnic or eating at Cafe Ephemere next to the church.

The house was well appointed, beds were comfortable, everything clean. Plenty of local information and books for discovering beyond Dinan were available. And the best patiserie we had in our two weeks in France was right across the bridge from the house. Can't say enough about this house! Are hopes are that we can return.

The location was perfect. Great views of Dinan port and just across a stone bridge to a wonderful bakery and several restaurants. Cathy is a warm hostess and it was nice to have bread, butter, wine and coffee available on arrival.

On the downside.....the top floor bedroom is a good size however the stairs to reach the bedroom were a hazard. The bathroom on the top floor is very small. The door to the bathroom is about 4 1/2 feet high and to enter the tiny shower you have to go in sideways. The bedroom on the middle floor is separated from the living room by a wall. No windows either. The ensuite to this bedroom is larger.

The house was superficially cleaned. Dust under the sofa and behind all the furniture, even the plant in the kitchen had a heavy layer of dust.

Suggest if you are looking at this property, you ask Cathy if their property at #8 is available.

Owner's Response: Hi Thank you for your review. I will address the dust issues and ensure that is not an issue in the future. I would like to thank you for leaving the house so clean and neat. Unfortunately, as described in the house details, due to the historic nature of the building, we can't change the top access or accommodation in any substantive way. With regards to the 1st floor accommodation we updated the bathroom last winter and intent to do some work this coming winter to change the configuration of this floor.

Wonderful stay!

  • 4 of 5

We spent three days here and would've loved to have stayed longer. The location is perfect, with easy access to restaurants and sites in Dinan and the port - as well as other locations in the region. The place was spotless and Cath and John were great and very helpful with suggestions. The wine and goodies awaiting our arrival were greatly appreciated! Given the opportunity, we'd love to stay here again.

Great character and ideal location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed with our 7 month old son for a few nights but wish we could have stayed longer! We were welcomed by Cath and John, and they left some treats (wine, bread, milk) which was a nice gesture. The house was spotless and had all the creature comforts we needed. The kitchen was fully equipped which was great because with a baby we ate in in the evenings. We loved the charm, especially the old beams and the steep stairs. The parking was right outside or within a few seconds walk. Dinan is a great base for heading out either to the coast or down to Rennes. There are some big supermarkets up this hill within a few minutes drive. Overall we would definitely consider staying again and have already recommended to friends!

Perfect home in Dinan Port!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights and wish we had stayed longer. This 3 story attached home is furnished so nicely with 2 great beds and wonderful new kitchen. 2nd story living room has a great view of the port. Location perfect for dining at wonderful restaurants on the river or for walking up to the walled town. Two modern bathrooms. Winding stairway to 3rd floor bedroom and bath is tricky but manageable. Owner very nice and helpful - from England but lives nearby in Normandy. We want to come back and stay here again!!!!
