Two bed apartment in Burgau village, sleeps up to 5 people, a few minutes walk from beautiful sandy beach. The apartment is part of a small condominium with a safe, secure shared pool so the kids can play while you relax on the terrace. All rooms are furnished to a high standard, has two terraces for eating out and lounging.
Burgau is a sleepy fishing village with plenty of excellent restaurants and amenities on your doorstep.
There are also plenty of other quiet, sandy beaches within an easy drive of the apartment. Burgau and the surrounding villages and beaches are a superb holiday destination for families with small kids or big kids.
It's a spacious apartment, with kids the real focus with a buggy, travel cot and high chair , dvd player, flat screen tv, free wifi and some english tv channels available.
Family with 2 young boys who love the sea and beach.
Joanne Baldwin purchased this apartment in 2007
We holidayed in this area of Portugal when the boys were first born and loved the beautiful beaches, quiet location, picturesque villages and great food and wine.
The apartment I bought with my sister is in a great location in Burgau, spacious and practical. The condominium was built on 2007 and has only 12 apartments split between summer rentals and residents who live there all year round. Everyone is really friendly and the village is one of the most beautiful on the Algarve. We've been coming to Portugal for many years now and the holiday works really well for babies, toddlers, little kids and teenagers.
Lagos is 15 minutes away, and a good sized town, and an easy drive if you want to mix up the quiet of Burgau with the busier holiday feel of Lagos.
Wow, how good was that holiday. The apartment was spot on for our needs (myself, my wife and two teenage daughters), just a slight issue with the WiFi, but I'm sure that can be easily rectified for 2017 and it meant we had a reason to be free of our smart/mobile devices and truly relax and enjoy the surroundings. My eldest daughter managed to read most of the books on offer whilst parked on the sun loungers provided and the youngest ploughed through the selection of DVDs during siesta time. The location of the apartment was great, only a few 100 yards to the centre of the village, but was far enough out to offer a feeling of tranquility during the evenings and night time.
The people staying in the other apartments that form the complex (permanent residents, owners and holidaymakers) were extremely pleasant and eager to help with any queries we had, even the pool rules seemed to be adhered to by everyone! There was a true sense of people enjoying their holiday, without wanting to impact on the enjoyment of the fellow residents.
Burgau is just lovely. Fantastic beach, with big waves some days and flat as a mill-pond on others, great restaurants and bars (didn't have a bad meal and would recommend the Cataplanas at Esquinas), the small mercados had enough on offer so you didn't need to leave the village for supplies, woman in the bakery was really friendly and the daily fresh fish van was fascinating to witness, although I didn't pluck up the courage to buy anything from it. We would all thoroughly recommend Burgau in general and this specific apartment for a fantastic family holiday. Oh yes, and finally didn't have a bad bottle of wine (even the €3 stuff was quaffable).
Great apartment, booked only 48 hours before arriving, everything faultless from start to finish. Would highly recommend if you have younger children, so many thoughtful extras in the apartment - buggy, parasol, games, kids books, DVD's etc, a real home from home. Apartment was spotless on arrival with done fresh rolls, butter, water, milk & ham which was so welcome after an early flight with two tired, hungry children. The bottle of wine was a lovely touch too. Kids loved the little pool and most days this was empty. About a ten minute walk to the beach maximum which was all fine. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thank you for a memorable stay.
The Algarve region
The Western Algarve is a fantastic place for a relaxed family holiday. It 's authentic, uncrowded and genuinely unspolit by mass tourism. You drive around in the summer and it still feels like a undiscovered secret spot. If you want to explore you there is plenty to see and do. If you want to take it easy, just hop around the local beaches and restaurants. It never gets too busy in high season and there is a genuine fishing village feel to Burgau and Salema down the coast.
The weather is as you'd expect in the summer without the suffocating evening temparatures. Do consider outside July and August as the weather is stunning (and its cheaper).
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the Western Algarve is one of the few areas of southern Europe which can truly claim to have a year round climate, similar to California. My family have enjoyed holidays in Salema during every month of the year. Even in December and January the average daily temperature is 16 degrees Celsius.
Summer. During the height of summer, the cooling Atlantic breezes make the outdoors pleasant and bearable (further East in the Algarve and over the border in Spain it can get too hot). The breeze also keeps insects and mosquitoes at bay, and provides the perfect complement to the scorching temperatures. The apartment benefits from air conditioning throughout to combat the occasional stifling day.
Autumn. The days are shorter, but remain sunny and warm. We love the spectacular colour changes and pleasant strolls on seemingly endless deserted beaches. From early November the nights draw in, the evenings become cooler and the first rain showers bring welcome relief after the long summer. November through to March is a lovely time to enjoy activities requiring a pleasant temperature, such as playing golf, walking, and painting.
Winter. Generally you will experience sunny days, often without wind. Temperatures are similar to a spring day in the UK. Occasionally there may be a little rain, but it rarely lasts for too long. The evenings are cooler and you may need the villa heating on. This is a great time to visit if you enjoy peace and tranquillity. With the Algarve's pleasant winter climate and relaxed pace of life, a break in southern Portugal is the ideal escape from the doldrums of a British winter.
Spring. We particularly enjoy the Algarve spring, which lasts from February to April. The land is lush and green with increasingly longer, sunny days. The whole area is a ‘sea of colour’, with a profusion of beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. This is probably our favourite time of the year.
Moving west from Lagos along the south coast towards Salema and onwards to Sagres you will discover the following beaches:
Meia Praia is easily the biggest beach in Lagos, curving around the bay all the way from the marina to the river estuary at Alvor.
Batata is only a few steps away from Lagos old town centre, located by the little fort at the entrance to the harbour.
Dona Ana and Ponta Piedada are probably the most photographed beaches on the Algarve. This is a fantastically shaped headland and an area of great natural beauty. Here the sea has formed hidden lagoons, grottos and sheltered beaches. You can take a boat ride to them from Lagos, kayak or walk along the cliff top.
Praia da Luz is a popular family holiday resort with a lovely beach.
Burgau and Salema are typical Portuguese fishing villages with beautiful beaches.
Zavial is a great beach and a surfer’s paradise.
Ingrina is a quiet little cove much used by scuba divers and snorkellers.
Martinhal is a large beach next to Sagres, very popular with windsurfers.
From Cape St Vincent up to Alzejur are the vast, rugged beaches of the west coast waiting to be discovered:
Praia do Castelejo and Cordama beaches, the closest to Salema, are very popular with surfers.
Carrapateira is a big, sparsely populated wild beach with cliffs and sand dunes.
Amado is a favourite beach of the local surf schools with its long shallow waves for beginners and bodyboarders.
Arrifano is one of the few west coast beaches next to a village.
Amoreira is a huge, beautiful beach with a river estuary at the end of it.
Monte Clerigo and Odeceixe are right up in the northwest of the Algarve. Both have lovely beaches with rock pools at either end for children to explore.
The beach at Burgau is a beautiful sandy crescent (similar to Cornish beaches) and has shade and a few loungers for hire. It's a short walk along into Burgau and down the hill to the beach. The Burgau beach bar is very popular for food in the evenings (you need to book). There are numerous other secluded beaches within easy driving distance, notably Salema.
