Escape to the mountains of Bethel, Maine in this beautiful, brand new 2,450 square foot home with views of Sunday River ski resort. With four bedrooms and three full bathrooms across three floors, Woodland Way Retreat is the perfect home base for your next family trip or getaway with friends.
From the fully appointed kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances to the second living room and large ski room, this luxury mountain lodge was built with family escapes in mind. Enjoy a glass of wine as you take in beautiful sunsets from the deck on one of our Adirondack chairs, or hop into the hot tub after a long day on the slopes.
The top floor features a master bedroom with a queen sized bed and beautiful tiled shower, while the main floor boasts a large, open concept living room, dining area and kitchen with soaring ceilings and a beautiful gas fireplace. This room offers beautiful mountain views and faces west to ensure beautiful sunsets. Our dining table has seating for 8, with additional seating for two at the kitchen island. The kitchen is well-stocked with anything you need to prepare and serve meals or enjoy wine, cocktails and appetizers throughout your trip. Also on the main floor is a queen bedroom, a bunk room with a set of bunks for two and a twin bed with a trundle bed, and a full bathroom.
The screened in porch/entranceway on the main floor opens to a large deck with three Adirondack chairs in addition to a dining table and chairs. Don't forget to pick up steaks to prepare on the Weber gas grill!
Downstairs you'll find another expansive living area with a sleeper sofa and a table and chairs for four, as well as a fourth bedroom featuring two twin beds and a full bathroom with a washer and dryer. Leave your skis, golf clubs and bikes in our spacious ski/mudroom with plenty of room for all of your "toys"! Just outside the door is our six-person hot tub.
Woodland Way Retreat is the perfect escape for families with children or for the adults-only getaway. There is plenty of room for several cars in our two parking areas, and the quiet location set on a 2-acre lot makes it a relaxing, rejuvenating mountain destination. Located just a few minutes from downtown Bethel, there are a number of restaurants and shops nearby, and Sunday River Resort is 15 minutes away. Public access to the Androscoggin River is just a few minutes away for kayaking, fishing and more.
The house is perfectly located near Sunday River (~10-15 minute drive) with great views (looking directly at Sunday River) and other activities (cross country skiing ~3-5 minutes down the road, snowmobiling, etc). We stayed for three nights through the NYE weekend (11 total) and all fit in the house very comfortably. The property is in brand new condition and offers a cozy cabin atmosphere, including a gas-powered fireplace with remote and outdoor hot tub. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed during our stay (i.e. kitchen appliances, dishware, etc.). Tama and Gary (property managers) welcomed us at the property upon arrival and were always a text message or phone call away (though we never ended up needing anything from them because the property had everything we needed, with no issues). Would 100% recommend the property, to either a group of friends or families. Great stay.
As a city dweller, I'm often looking for a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan; this wonderful rental was exactly what I was looking for, and I can't wait to visit again next year. I've often found that rentals feel like just that - a rental - but the Bear's Den felt like home. From the moment you enter, you're greeted by lovely photography, warm and comfortable living room, and (my favorite addition!) a bottle of wine compliments of the owners. What a fantastic personal touch!
After a few days in the house, it was apparent the owners/management take the upkeep and preservation of the property very seriously. Everything in the house feels wonderfully maintained, and incredibly clean - I'm never sure what I'm going to get when renting a popular condo, but the place was sparkling. The amenities worked well & they surely thought of everything when stocking the kitchen!!
The owners have so thoughtfully put together a book of popular restaurants and activities in the area, which was very helpful whilst navigating a new area. I'd recommend checking out the Matterhorn and Covered Bridge, two of my favorite Bethel/Newry spots :) And, if you're into skiing/snowboarding, Sunday River is a quick ride away (and some awesome trails!).
I would highly recommend this gorgeous rental & cannot wait to return.
IIf you're looking for a place to stay near Sunday River or the surrounding area -- look no further -- you've found it. I came up with a group of friends for my first trip to Maine and I can assure you that I'll be back. This house has the perfect set up and location. It's immaculate, beautifully designed and has wonderful amenities. As someone that (1) doesn't ski very well (yet) and (2) often likes to cook instead of going out, all my needs were well addressed. It is an easy jaunt from to not only the ski slopes, but also other outdoor areas as well. For a skiing rookie who didn't want to spend every day going downhill I was glad to be close to somewhere I could try cross country skiing, fat-tire biking and snow-shoeing.
Also important -- it's an easy walk from to both a proper grocery store and also convenience store, and really close to some of the better restaurants and ski shops (for waxing or renting skis, etc.)
When we weren't out recreating there was plenty of room for us to hang out together and we never felt cramped or got sick of each other. Oh -- and the fire place is a welcome addition to cold extremities after a day outside.
Thank you -- I will return!
This is a gorgeous, well-appointed home with everything you need for a getaway with friends or family. It is located just a few minutes away from Sunday River, in between the mountain and downtown Bethel so that everything you need is close by.
My group of 6 friends spent a long weekend here in January 2012 and loved the proximity to the mountain. When we weren't at the mountain, we spent all of our time at the house - cooking using the well stocked kitchen (better than mine at home!), relaxing around the fireplace, watching movies and just enjoying each other's company. The house is gorgeous, and the granite countertops and huge flatscreen TV (among other things) definitely make it feel like a luxurious escape.
We returned in January 2013 and already have plans for 2014. Our only complaint is that we can't return more frequently! Highly recommend this as a destination for ski trips with family or friends.
We had a group of 7 adults stay here for a weekend of skiing and snowboarding at Sunday River. The condo is simply gorgeous. The entire place is spacious, clean, and obviously very well cared for. The kitchen and living area are fantastic -- we really enjoyed cooking dinner every night and warming up by the fireplace. The location is perfect, only a mile or so down the road from the Sunday River access road. I would highly recommend this rental to others and would not think twice about staying here again for my next Sunday River vacation.
