Our home is a 3 bedroom plus den, 2 bath home located on Heart Lake in northern Minnesota, just 5 minutes away from the headwaters of the Mississippi River. This majestic home sits on 2 acres of land with 200 ft of lakeshore that will provide the perfect environment to unwind and enjoy your vacation. Our home has high cathedral ceilings in the living room, kitchen and dinning area with many windows to provide a great view of the lake and surrounding outdoors.
A private and quiet, secluded lake with great bass, northern pike, crappie and sunny fishing (you can catch keepers right off the dock). Take in the beautiful sunsets serenaded by the loons at dusk; watch the deer feed in the yard mornings and evenings. Listen to the birds sing in the morning and the frogs croaking at dusk. (get the picture?).
There are plenty of indoor activities too; Playstation 2, movies, board games, puzzles, coloring books and crayons, cards, cribbage, chess or a friendly game of charades (If the weather isn't cooperating). After the daily activities sit around a crackling fire burning in the large stone fire pit. Cook burgers and hotdogs on the swing-out grill (don't forget the marshmallows). Relax in the 2 person Jacuzzi tub upstairs in the master bedroom suite.
Or just take a blanket to lay on and gaze at the stars.
This place is about relaxing while being as active as you want to be. Play horseshoes, croquet, badminton or volleyball. Hike or pick wild raspberries. Enjoy water sports like jet skiing, water skiing, boating or fishing. Take the kids to Itasca State Park for a bike ride. Go golfing at nearby golf courses, horseback riding, four-wheeling or just take a hike in the woods on one of the many trails around the property.
Take a siesta under the trees, sketch a loon and her babies in tow or take a walk in a winter wonderland. Relax, enjoy yourselves and forget about the rest of the world for awhile. Come stay at Heart lake for an experience you won't soon forget.
The property was purchased in 1988 and there were many years spent coming every weekend all summer camping in tents, then a camper bus and then to a small mobile home. In 2000 we started work on building the home from the ground up with the help of all the children. The home is a labor of love. Over the years we have continued to make improvements on the home and landscape to get it where it is today. In the spring and fall I still come home to enjoy the peace and quite that only the Minnesota north woods can bring.
Jacqueline purchased this house in 1988
We have lived and traveled in many different states. When I started to look where we wanted a vacation spot I just kept coming back to northern Minnesota. There is so much variety, with the four seasons and all the lakes. Most of all the sound of the loons call on the lake on a summer night while sitting around the camp fire with friends and family.
The home is on a 480 acre private lake and very secluded with only 16 homes around the lake. Private boat landing. The fishing is excellent.
Hiking trails nearby.
Adjacent to state snowmobile trail.
Itasca State park (headwaters of the Mississippi River) 3 miles away.
Fishing was great we didn't catch this many near LaCrosse ont the mighty Mississippi! Facility is great for a family "of all ages" 60 years & down to 2 years of age
Our extended family, with 4 kids and 6 adults fit well in the house and had a great time. The lake was beautiful and all the extra amenities such as fishing poles and the paddle boat were really appreciated. We rented the pontoon boat as well and enjoyed touring the lake.
Thanks so much to the host Jacqueline for great communication and a very fun vacation!
We had a blast. Nice house, good layout with plenty of room. We had eight adults and one child and I never felt like we were crowded. I would go back.
Our last few vacations had consisted of schedules and a lot of hustle and bustle. We were looking for a week of relaxation and getting to know each other again. This was perfect. We chose to wake up when ever we felt like it. No schedules to keep. One morning we got up at 5:00 to get an early start on the fishing. It was worth it. We took the pontoon out at least twice a day. Everything in the house was what we expected. We felt at home right away. If you needed groceries or did not feel like cooking one day there are small stores close by or bigger towns that have everything you need. One evening we were coming back from Park Rapids. We were 10 miles out of town and saw a black bear run across the road. We have been to Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming and California and have not yet seen a bear in the wild. We saw plenty of dear, a couple of owls and of course the loons. With the loons it reminded me of the movie On Golden Pond and my son caught a large mouth bass that wasn't quite as big as Walter. My daughter tried to out do him with all the blue gill, crappie and the one bass she caught that was just a little bit smaller than his. We used the charcoal grill multiple times. We had a couple of afternoons where there was rain so we played cards. We used the Skip Bo set and other games that are in the house to pass the time. The house is 15 minutes away from Lake Itasca. We live on the Mississippi River in Iowa so it was neat to go see the headwaters and walk across it. We made sure every evening we took a casual boat ride on the lake just to enjoy the serenity. It was a great way to end each fun filled day. If my family and I ever decide to go back to Minnesota for this type of vacation we will come right back to here.
We had a family reunion at the cabin with ages from 1 to 80. The kitchen worked well for all the food on our reunion day. The weather was perfect and the fishing was wonderful. The older kids enjoyed being taken to the middle of the lake on the pontoon and jumping in. The older folks loved sitting on the deck and visiting. The entire group went to Itasaca for the afternoon, a must. This is a great place with lots of privacy.
Quiet and secluded area make this place special.
We caught few basses and pikes on fishing.
Near itasca state park trip was nice.
We rented bike and pontoon boat and we all loved.
We will be back in near future.
Our family of 10 just returned from Heart Lake and had the most wonderful vacation ever!!!! The owners have thought of everything and we didn't have a want for anything the entire trip! If you want privacy on a lake, THIS IS THE PROPERTY TO PICK. You can't even see another house from the property.....there must be neighbors as we saw their docks, but you don't hear or see anyone! Complete privacy which we absolutely loved!
Heart Lake was the perfect size, small but large enough to do whatever you wanted - with no public access you won't see lots of boats which made it completely serene and private....only boats from other houses on the lake of which there were maybe 12 other homes. At any one time we maybe shared the lake with 2-3 other boaters....and a couple loons! When we were there the water was like glass....the word peaceful just barely describes it. Heaven in Minnesota.
Weather was stunning - about 75-79 degrees all week, barely a breeze at all.....perfect for bonfires. Of the 2 fire pits they have - we chose the one overlooking the lake of course! They had firewood all ready to go for us.
We had tons of fun on the pontoon and fishing was WONDERFUL. We had a little trouble with the pontoon after our first night and owners came RIGHT AWAY to make sure it was fixed. They were wonderful, down to earth and easy and made us feel at home there!
We made two trips to Itasca headwaters - beautiful and something NOT TO MISS. Make sure and take the drive thru the park. They also have a great gift shop if you're looking for souvenirs.
Jacque said this was her home, decorated with her family pictures etc, and you can see that it is cared for and clean. We are thankful that she's opened our home to us and we felt at home there..... can't wait to come back!
If you are considering other rental vacations stop right now and rent this home on Heart Lake. Everything about this place makes for a perfect vacation and you will not be sorry!
Thank you for opening your home for us! We can hardly wait to come back!
The property is located just off a state snowmobile/ATV trail adjacent to Itasca State park.
