Island Magazine 'Top 10 Best Islands in the World': 'Development has transformed the Mexican Caribbean, but Isla Mujeres, less than half-hour by boat from Cancun, still is holding onto some of that old, small-fishing-village, kick-back-in-the-hammock Mexico character. There are a couple of newer, somewhat upscale inns, but for now the island is still geared more to low-key days of snorkeling (notably the reefs of El Garrafon National Park near the southern tip), fishing (the energy level does pick up during annual international fishing tournaments), and beach time - followed by nights of live music and tequila bars.'
'A moped, bike, or golf cart is best way to do a little sightseeing (the ruins of a small Maya temple on a sea bluff and a sea turtle farm, both at the southern end of the island, are the main attractions).' ....'Sign up for a whale-shark tour available from June to September'.
MSNBC ' Five Best Islands to Live On': 'This tiny island off the Yucatán Peninsula blends the soul of Mexico with the beaches of the Caribbean. This is a hammock-swinging lifestyle, peppered with Mayan legends.'...'Only eight miles from hyperactive Cancún, Isla Mujeres is a throwback to Mexico’s more innocent days, a time when you might have driven a VW bus down the Yucatán Peninsula, slept beneath a million stars and cooked fish tacos over an open fire. Isla, as it is known, is a casual place that has added a few conveniences without sacrificing its Mexican soul. You can still wander sandy, unpaved roads into villages where fishermen are mending their nets. Hammocks take the place of beds in colorful, Caribbean-style casas; and to get from point A to B, the preferred transport is by golf cart .... After all the island is only five miles long, and what’s your hurry anyway? Remember, this isn’t just Mexico, it’s Caribbean Mexico. '
Tourism Isla Mujeres: 'During the summer months, swimming with the WHALE SHARKS is the number one attraction bringing visitors from all around the globe to Isla Mujeres for the opportunity to come in close contact with the world's largest fish only 45 minutes offshore. Be sure to stay the night to be ready for your whale shark excursion which leaves between 7 and 8 am daily.'
'After a day filled with water sports, in the evening you might take in a salsa band on Ave. Hidalgo, or join in the music and dancing of a local festival; maybe even cheer at a basketball game in the main square. Community and family activities are a major part of life here. This is especially true during CARNAVAL, the week before Mardi Gras when groups of friends from five years to sixty-five perform in the streets with the costumes and dance routines they have been readying for months. It's non stop party fun.'
I first fell in love with Isla in 1987. I was lucky enough to purchase a beautiful lot on the Caribbean in 2006. Casa Cielo was built in 2008.
I am a Physical Therapist (for both people and dogs) in New York, USA. Someday I hope to spend several months a year in my beautiful Isla home, but for now I enjoy sharing this special place with you! I have 2 young adult children who have grown up vacationing on Isla, and we continue to bring friends and family for our annual New Year's trip. My daughter Kati helps me with rentals and online correspondence with guests.
Kati purchased this house in 2008
Once you see it, you will know!
Casa Cielo sits on the most narrow section of the island, and one of the highest. This prime location affords us gorgeous 360 degree views!
The beautiful Caribbean is just outside your backdoor. Sliding doors open to your own private ocean from both bedrooms and living area!
Gorgeous view of Cancun Bay with beautiful sailboats off of the front veranda!
The rooftop swing bar offers the best 360 degree view of the island!
Other than the incredible views, the location offers the best of both worlds, privacy as well as being only a short walk into town with all of Isla's wonderful restaurants and shopping!
My husband and I came to Isla Mujeres last year. We spent two weeks on the island, fell in love with the place, and definitely wanted to do it again. This time we had friends that wanted to join us, so we needed a larger place, and Casa Cielo certainly provided that! The casa is extremely spacious, and the large bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect. The beds are very comfortable, and there is absolutely everything you could need in the large bathrooms, including more than enough towels, unlimited hot water and amazing walk-in showers, along with little extras like hair dryers and curling irons in both bathrooms, which I thought was a lovely added touch. Robin also provides plenty of beach towels and even thought of extra things for the beach such as a couple of folding beach chairs, a boogie board, a beach bag full of toys, and a portable cooler (with an ice pack in the freezer!). The location of the casa is absolutely perfect, with balconies overlooking both the Caribbean and Cancun Bay sides of the island and 360 degree views from the rooftop terrace. My brother also came to visit during our stay, and the upstairs studio apartment was perfect for him. He had everything he needed, and just like the main casa, it is decorated in the traditional Mexican style and has a big comfortable bed with all of the comforts of home. You can tell that Robin takes pride in this beautiful casa....everything is so well maintained, and she even had brand new patio furniture delivered during our stay. The gardens that surround the property upstairs and down are absolutely beautiful, and it always feels very serene. Though we were there for two weeks, we only rented a golf cart for four days to do some sightseeing on the island. Because of the casa's location, we didn't need one the entire time. Taxis come by constantly, and it is just as easy to jump in one to get to any destination you need. We enjoyed spending days at the north beach near the lagoon (try heading to the Fenix), but loved heading over to the smaller beach clubs on the west side of the island. We particularly enjoyed Playa Lanchero's where they have a bar/restaurant, and free use of loungers on the beach as long as you buy a couple of drinks while you're there. We were lucky enough to meet Robin during our stay, and can't say enough about how kind and accommodating she was, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her terriers, Monk and Gia. Thank you Robin!!!! Can't wait to see you again!
This was our first trip to Isla Mujeres so the choice of a place to stay was a bit of a gamble, as it turns out a very lucky one. The house is located on the ocean with a wonderful view and the sound of the surf, great for sunning and very private. Even better the house is on the outskirt of the city center and only a short walk to restaurants and the north beach. An inexpensive taxi ride can take you to several wonderful beaches on the east side for a day of snorkeling and beach club restaurants. The very big plus was a several page summary of best places to swim, explore and eat provided by the owner Robin. Most importantly Robin provided great advice as to how to navigate easily from the Cancun Airport to Casa Cielo that de-stressed all of us after a long trip. Everything we needed was provided, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms and nice Mexican style kitchen. So peaceful, we will return.
We very much enjoyed our time at Casa Cielo!! The views from both the front and the back are wonderful. We loved listening to the ocean as we slept, and the breeze blowing through was brilliant...the kids have never slept better in their lives! Very easy walk into town (and that is with a walking 2 1/2 year old) where everything is available. The layout of the house is nice, lots of room for the kids and adults alike. We were 2 kids, 2 parents, and 2 grand-parents...and never felt crowded or in each others way.
Marla is great, and very, very helpful with island knowledge and suggestions, she really helped to make our trip to Isla so much more. Having Pauncho next door was equally fun, and we enjoyed many moments with him, which continued beyond our stay at Cielo...a very interesting and happy man!
Definitely recommend this property for those wishing to stay on the north end, but wanting to have a place with space and peace.
We traveled here with our little daughter (1yr), and enjoyed every minute of it. The US family who owns this place has decorated this house very tastefully, and with few neighbors yet close enough to town to walk, you have all the peace to watch ocean, clouds, and sun.
The agent was also very helpful, provided additional fresh water, baby crib, high chair.
The photos on the website are actually less pretty than this home is in reality, it's nice, spacious and clean, and everything that was promised was there.
The time went by in a breeze!
The subject of vacation came up last night, and the kids wondered where I'd plan for this year. After being a travel agent for 20+ years, my kids are pretty well traveled, as I. I thought for a while and have to honestly tell you that after my stay at your beautiful Casa Nirvana, I don't have the desire to go anywhere else. Between the breathtaking views from every angle of the house, to the tranquil escape of the lapping of the sea, to the upbeat and friendly atmosphere of the local nightlife, I can truthfully say that it is my one desire to return as soon as possible.
Thank you again for the use of your home in the clouds. I will be in touch soon to schedule my next vacation!!
Our stay at casa nirvana was ablsolutely wonderful, and we would love to visit it again. The home is a great location within walking distance to town, so you can pick up groceries. And has a good place for parking golf cart to take you around the island. We enjoyed the constant carribean breeze from the patio. And we could get on the right on the beach from the patio to beach comb and found lots of great shells. The house is well equipped with everything, and the beds are comfortable which isn't always the case visiting Mexico. Our host Donna was excellent to help with all arrangement for anything we needed.

Casa Cielo sits just south of Isla's downtown, making it a very short walk to the many great restaurants and bars on Isla's main street, Hildago. Infact, it is the 1st rental home south of the Navy base on the airport strip, giving you both the serenity of a private villa on the Caribbean, and easy access into town and beautiful North Beach.
There is also a sea-side promenade (Malecon) which begins at your backdoor and leads into the center of town, winding along the Caribbean...great for walks, jogging, or a bike ride!
In addition its many great restaurants, casual night life with live bands playing most nights, Isla has wonderful things to see during the day, including Mayan Ruins, Garafon Water Park, Dolphin Discovery, and the Sea Turtle sancturary.
Speaking of seaturtles, you can see these beautiful creatures laying their eggs on the beach behind the house (summer months). They come ashore after dark and in the morning you will see deep craters in the sand and the tracks of their flippers crawling back into the ocean! Truly an amazing experience!
The beach behind the house is also a wonderful place to find sea glass and shells.
Whale shark tours are another once in a lifetime experience you can have on Isla Mujeres. These extraordinary solitary creatures come together for 2 months a year, in one place in the world.... just off the coast of Isla Mujeres!
Our rooftop boasts the best 360 degree view on the island! Complete with swing bar, you will enjoy many sunset toasts enjoying this amazing view!
Isla Mujeres is a hidden treasure of an island just off the coast of Cancun. It combines the picturesque paradise of a small, safe Caribbean island, (rated #1 safest island by island magazine) with easy access to the excitement of Cancun. It's a short 20 min ferry ride from Cancun, and ferries leave every 30 min.
