Our family of 5 took our first trip to Hawaii in March. This home was perfect for us... the beach and the views were excellent. It was quiet and relaxing, and each of our three kids had their own room and bathroom to spread out in and retreat to when they were tired. We used the well-apportioned kitchen for breakfasts and lunches, and then went out to some of the various wonderful restaurants in the evenings. We loved being on the beach and in the water in front of the house. Turtles visited everyday, and we saw fish, eels, crabs, and other creatures as well. Hapuna Beach was less than 10 minutes away for some fun boogie-boarding and people-watching. Kalia was so helpful in planning our stay, as well as tips on places to go. We had a fabulous vacation and would love to come back!
Our family of six adults spent 10 days in this beautiful house on our first ever trip to Hawaii. It was clean, roomy and quiet. We could walk into the ocean and see turtles and beautiful fish any time we wanted. We lost count of the number of breeching wales we saw. Star gazing was amazing. Every thing in the house worked perfectly. Kalia, who manages the property, was just a phone call or email away. If you're looking for a swanky resort, this is not the place for you but it's perfect if you want lots of room, a perfectly stocked kitchen, great washer/dryer setup, a bathroom in each bedroom plus an extra full bath for whatever. When we weren't out hiking or snorkeling, we were planted on the lanai. Just can't say enough about this beautiful, relaxing place. Grab it if you can.
Perfect for us! Our family lives in NZ & Australia and we met here for a holiday catch up. Clean and comfortable; great catering facilities & BBQ; no air con but ceiling fans were all that was needed at night; quite a few beach toys (boogie boards, noodles, chairs umbrellas) and turtles and snorkelling straight off the beach in front. Kalia was friendly, quick to reply to queries and always helpful. Would love to come back...
Our friends got married at the Fairmont, so a few couples got together and rented this home for the long weekend. It was perfect! The Fairmont is easily accessible via pathway along the water. It is a beautiful walk in the evening with the moon/stars. Our group included two couples with children (one family of four and another family of three). The house has a big lanai and a nice grass area (we set up plastic kiddo pool) and easy access to the tidal beach (good for spotting turtles and fish). We also went snorkeling right from the house and saw tons of fish and coral formations. It was very easy to work with Kalia - she is a great host. Bottom line = highly recommended destination!
I've stayed at most of the luxury hotels on the Kohala coast (Mauna Kea, Hapuna Prince, Fairmont Orchid, Four Seasons Hualalai, Kona Village Resort back in the day) but my favorite vacation is renting a house in Puako. This four-bedroom home was not super luxurious, but was nearly perfect in every way for my group of four adults - It feels secluded. You have your own private beach. There are whales and snorkeling and birding right out the door. It's easy to take a great bike ride or run or walk or hike right from the house. The kitchen is very well equipped and there are staples in the cupboards and refrigerator. A new outdoor grill was perfect for cooking the freshest fish from the nearby Fish House in Kawaihae. The furniture for sitting in the living room or on the porch is beyond comfortable. The manager, Kalia, is very accommodating; she's there when you need her and stays out of your way when you don't. I really cannot say enough good about this house. I'd rent it again in an instant.
Our entire family of 4 couples and a baby spent a perfect week at this lovely home. We saw breaching whales off the lanai (I could see whales from the shower!), lots of honu (turtles) and tropical fish right off the beach. What beautiful sunsets! The best snorkeling was a short walk down the beach trail. All 4 bedrooms with their own bath were private and separate from the main house. The large kitchen and essentially 2 seating and dining areas provided us with plenty of space to be alone or together (the lanai Pune bed was a favorite lounging and napping spot). We prepared most dinners at home, but the house is perfectly situated between the Mauna Kea and the Orchid for lunches, cocktails, a luau, and white sand beaches. The General Store has a nice selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and amazing local Kona coffee beans.
Kalia, the manager, was helpful and gracious from start to finish, providing us with snorkeling equipment and answering all our questions. The house was spotless, the kitchen and bathrooms were perfectly stocked.
I would so love to return next year!
