Our home is on a quiet side street, one block off Main Street. Your vacation begins the moment you pull your car into the driveway, no need to search for parking. Acadia National Park and all that Bar Harbor has to offer are within walking distance. The well equipped kitchen which opens to a large backyard, spacious dining room, and living room, equipped with 42 in flat screen T.V.,VCR/DVD, stereo, card and board games are on the first floor. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms, 2 with queen beds, one with 2 twin beds, bathroom, plus a youth room with a pack and play. In the backyard relax as you watch the children play, or enjoy a game of badminton, fire up the gas grill for a cookout and enjoy your lobster dinner in the fresh salt air. After dinner walk two block to listen to a concert in the Village Green or browse the many shops and boutiques, another two blocks to watch the sunset over the ocean before coming home to tuck in to rest up for another day of relaxation and adventure.

Acadia Escape remodeled in 2008 : We have done lots of updates to our recently purchased home. All windows and doors have been replaced with energy efficient low e glass. An energy efficient furnace was also installed this year to help with green house gases and for your comfort. The electrical system has also been completely updated to all safety codes including smoke detectors in every room for your safety. In the bathroom the tub/shower enclosure has been newly tiled. The hardwood floors in the living area and the California pine floors on the entire second floor have all been sanded and refinished. As have all the original wood doors.

2012 we have upgraded, we have put a 42 inch HDTV and new pull out couch in the living area, also new carpet in dining room and new flooring in the bathroom.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a great time staying here. We walked to the Island Explorer bus and rode around the Island. We visited Jordan Pond House and had popovers and blueberry crisp yum. We cooked lobsters and ate in the backyard. Thanks for a great house and so many conveniences.

Spotlessly Clean and Convenient to Everything

  • 4 of 5

There were just two of us, so this 3 bedroom plus nursery gave us plenty of room. The house is well furnished, as is the kitchen. It is quiet. My 'white sock' test (wearing white socks when in the house) showed that this place was really clean.

It is a short walk to the main drag and everything in Bar Harbor is walkable. We left the car in the driveway (off-street parking!) unless we were leaving the area. The free bus shuttles to Acadia National Park were a marvel.

The only thing keeping the rating at 4 stars was the bed. The mattress was OK, but the bed clothes did not suit us.

Close to the heart of Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

The home is well-maintained and comfortable. It is only 2 blocks from the Village Green were you can catch the "Island Expolorer" or visit the town of Bar Harbor. Off street parking was nice for our rental car since there were usually other cars on the street in front of the home. The area is quiet, so sleeping was easy. It probably would be a little hot in the summer, as others mention, but in September, even with 80-degree F days, it was't bad. The space was great for a couple...plenty of room to spread out. The home owner stopped by the first evening to make sure everything was okay and called after we left to say thanks. We would likely stay here should we find ourselves in Bar Harbor, again.

great vacation--we'd use again

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Acadia Escape for the second year running and had a great time. It was perfect for our family. A five minute walk to the village green in the middle of Bar Harbor, shuttle buses and all the ice cream your kids are going to talk you into eating, it is clean and well appointed. It feels homier than some of the rental properties we've stayed at before which are fancier but feel more resortish. Mary Ellen and Augie were great hosts, responsive but not in the way. We loved it. With three small kids, having a full kitchen and grill to prepare meals saved a lot of time, tears and money, particularly at dinner where you can easily wait 45 minutes for an overpriced meal at downtown restaurants.

Great location, has everything you need!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic week in Bar Harbor and the Acadia Escape worked out great for us. The location cannot be beat. Short walk to all the shops and the harbor. Short walk to the shuttle that takes you all over Acadia. We are a family of six, and although we only had one car, we were able to split up some days due to the proximity to down town and to the shuttles. Property is very clean and comfortable. Outdoor grill and patio worked out great for us. All the amenties you need from plenty of towels, to laundry, to coolers, and tons of brochures, info, and maps of the island. We had a great time!

Fantastic rental perfectly located to explore Acadia

  • 5 of 5

We visited Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park during peak season and found the location of the rental to be outstanding for zipping into and out of the National Park. The in town location gave us access to everything we needed and the ability to be in the park by car or bus within 5- 10 mins. The home itself is well laid out and appointed for a family. We felt at ease the minute we walked in the door. The home was on a quiet residential street and we especially enjoyed having both a private driveway and a backyard during our summer visit. We have rented many vacation homes and I was most impressed with how much thought and effort the owners put into making their home well appointed and useful to vacation renters. It was the little details such as putting a bike rack on the property and accumulating a wealth of local and travel information for use by the guests that the owner supplied that prompted me to write this review. There are too many details to list but be assured the owners have thought of everything to help you have an enjoyable trip. The rental process was smooth and efficient and our deposit was returned promptly. We enjoyed our time immensely at Acadia Escape and will rent this home again when we return to Maine. Thank you Augie and MaryEllen for sharing your home with us so that we could enjoy the splendid coast of Maine!

Great location, older home, very warm in summer

  • 4 of 5

The location was great. It was just a couple of blocks to downtown Bar Harbor. The space accommodated our family of 6 very well. There are 3.5 bedrooms upstairs. One is perfect for a baby and comes with a pack n play. The outdoor space is nice and we ate most of our meals out there. It was nice to have a driveway to park in. The owners are literally out your side door and were friendly.

The home is older with furnishings from the 90s but it is clean has all the basics you could need. The only real issue we had was during our stay the temperature reached 80 and there is no air conditioning in the home. The bedrooms and kitchen were very hot, even with the windows open. I would suggest putting some ceiling fans or window units in.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. The location is ideal for walking to town without having to worry about parking. The evenings in Maine most often cool into the 60's, we do provide box fans in every bedroom for the few nights the temperature does not drop. We do have a ceiling fan in the dining room if the weather does prevent you from enjoying the outdoor dining area. Again glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your suggestions.
