Our ranch is uniquely located on 45 acres at the end of Cabezon Canyon, beautifully situated with a view of Chimney Rock and the San Juan mountains. You will most likely see all sorts of wildlife such as deer, elk, bobcats, wild turkey, coyotes, even bears - all dependent on which season of the year you come to vacation.
There is ample room for you to bring your horses and parking for your trailer. We have fenced pasture and run-in stalls for your horses, including hay and water for an additional fee. You can ride on our land, venture into National Forest, or trailer your horses to numerous nearby riding trails into the millions of acres of National Forest surrounding the Pagosa area. The Parelli Natural Horsemanship Center is only a 20 min. drive north. Navajo Lake is a 20 min. drive south if you want to boat, fish or swim. World class fishing on the Piedra River or the San Juan River is also minutes away.
The town of Pagosa Springs, 25 minutes away, has shopping, restaurants, an historic theatre, a museum, and the famous Hot Springs and Spa located on the San Juan River. In every season there is something fun to do in our area - fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horse-back riding, river rafting, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing - the list goes on! Everything is within five to 30 minutes away. Wolf Creek Ski Resort is approx. 50 miles to the east and Durango Mtn. Resort is approx. 60 miles to the west. Durango airport is less than an hour drive. Come and enjoy the mountains!
My husband and I purchased our ranch in 1999 and lived there for 5 years before his job moved us elsewhere. We ran a small horse boarding business in the early days and love keeping horses to this day. We appreciate our unique land, its privacy, and all the wildlife....it is our dream to retire here someday!
Anne Tomforde purchased this cabin in 1999
Where do I start! The home was exceptional in all aspects! Clean, spacious, well stocked and so very cozy! The location afforded tremendous privacy and the opportunity to truly relax and enjoy our vacation without worrying about the children bothering anyone by with their extreme exuberance! We love the outdoors and this is where the home excels..National Forest and wildlife in abundance..I have had good experiences with all my previous vacation rentals but nothing compares to this home! By the way, Anne Tomforde is expetionally nice and a pleasure to work with and Chuck, the ranch foreman so to speak, is great and very helpful! We liked him enough to ask him to share our final meal at the home with us! You can't go wrong with this property; dont be put off by the 25 minute drive to Pagosa, the setting and privacy more than compensate for that and it makes the Durango area much more convenient! In the end..I can tell you this was one of the most special weeks that my family has ever spent together!
Fabulous. Just as described. The views were gorgeous and the house was cozy. Mike was super friendly and helpful!!
Had a great time with my family over New Years. Would rent it again. Fully stocked kitchen and ample space. A little isolated but that is part of the beauty of this place. Bring your 4 wheel drive and sleds for the children. Ranch manager very helpful.
Our family had a fantastic time at this bucolic off the beaten path home. The wildlife was impressive (wild turkeys, hawks, hummingbirds, etc.), the views were magnificent and the horses & ranch hand (Mike) couldn't have been more welcoming! We had a big crew (7 teenagers!!!), and had a great time playing games, hiking around Pagosa and sitting around the campfire at night. Thanks Anne, Phillip, Mike, Ringo, Blackie & Magnum!!!
Our friends from Mississippi joined us for a week at this ranch style home. The house was clean, well stocked the perfect place for a relaxing get-away. The house is located perfectly for day tripping to Durango or Pagosa Springs. We were able to fish, feed the horses every day, play with our dog in the pastures and relax with a fire in the fireplace every day.
Ànne is a great communicator and very sweet. We had such a great time that we are planning a trip back next year. Thank you Anne for sharing your home with us. xoxo
To start with, the cabin was quite clean. No dirt on the floors, hairs in the shower, food crumbs on the table, etc. Even the wood-burning stove was immaculately cleaned.
The cabin is at the last house on the road, and the seclusion was quite pleasant. There is plenty to do outdoors in the area, but the cabin is also well stocked for those who want to spend some time indoors.
Our family had a great time spending a several days at the cabin. We saw plenty of wildlife, particularly the deer which congregated in large numbers in the pasture, but also the birds such as juncos, turkeys, Stellar's jays, and bluebirds. We also enjoyed the hot springs, treasure falls, a lot of hikes (including one up to the nearby ruins at Chimney Rock), feeding the horses some carrots, fires in the evening, playing darts and chess, etc. At the end of our stay, our only regret was that we hadn't reserved the cabin for another day or two.
Our ranch home has a view of Chimney Rock, an historic archeological sight. These Indian ruins were the dwelling of the ancient Ansasazi, a civilization that existed in our area over 1,000 years ago. Daily tours are conducted by the Forest Service. You can even ride your horses to it from our ranch.
