Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica and truly enjoyed staying at the Bali Tree House. Dennis was great and kept the pool and grounds clean and ready, as well as turning on lights for us at night while we were out. Evelia was wonderful and did a very good job cleaning each was a pleasure to have her working there during our stay. We had minimal contact with Angie but she was warm and friendly, letting us know if we needed anything she was a phone call away.

We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Thanks and Pura Vida!

The entire villa utilizes an advanced electronic security and monitoring system for added security. Re: Children, there are some outside stairways and balconies that may pose a hazard to young children. Also the pool is not fenced. Re: Pets, we love pets, in fact we have several dogs here in the States, but we know that big slobbering wet sandy dogs and a beautiful rental house do not work together. Tell us about your pets and we can see.

Lovely stay in MA

  • 4 of 5

The Bali Tree House is a great place to stay in Manuel Antonio. Like many accommodations in the area, it's perched on a hidden hillside location, so it takes some effort to get to and from it and not for the weak-kneed or mobility challenged; but it's centrally located for access to many restaurants etc. and also close enough to the beaches and MA park. The house itself is comfortable and well appointed, and surrounded on all sides by nature- monkey visits are a regular occurrence. Ample air conditioning and multiple fans kept us cool upstairs and down. Even though the property is showing its age a bit around the edges, it still lovely and well cared for. I would recommend this for a group of friends or family looking for a secluded refuge after busy days taking in the local activities around Manuel Antonio.

Unique and beautiful home!

  • 4 of 5

My family & I just returned from a 1 week stay. Our group included myself, my husband, my parents and our three small children (ages 5, 3, and 1). The home is stunningly designed. Our children loved the pool and hot tub to play in in the afternoon after touring the area or visiting the beach. We especially enjoyed the large, wrap-around balcony. There are four rocking chairs and we spent most of our down time (especially in the mornings with coffee) sitting and scanning the lush scenery for animals. Our very first day a troop of about 15-20 squirrel monkeys came onto the balcony and it was wonderful to watch them playing and interacting with the kids through the glass. We didn't have that many come by again during our stay, but we did see one or two monkeys per day, along with four toucans, an agouti and lots of iguanas. This house does not have an ocean view, but you won't miss it. The property feels very private and there are beautiful views of the lush vegetation from every window. My one warning to anyone with small children or elderly in their group, is that there are A LOT of steep stairs on this property. There are also quite a few places where a small child could easily climb up and fall off an edge (i.e. the side of the pool had about a 5 foot drop to the concrete below, and there is a ledge near the outdoor shower that drops directly down to the bottom level of the home). Also, there are beaches and great restaurants nearby, but to walk to any of these requires at least a 15-20 minute hike up or down a STEEP dirt road. The daily housekeeper and the groundskeeper next door, Dennis, were both kind and friendly. I have only a couple minor complaints. First, the shower door in the master bathroom was broken and wouldn't completely shut. This was a bit of an issue because that shower is only screened in and the AC was less effective in the room as a result. Second, all the bedroom doors were VERY loud to open and close. This is probably not an issue for most, but with babies and toddlers sleeping/napping in each room, it was incredibly difficult to enter or exit the rooms without waking someone. I think the doors need to be oiled and readjusted on their hinges. It seems that maybe the house has shifted a bit and caused them to scrape the floor. Overall, we greatly enjoyed our stay and recommend this home!

Beautiful, great location, surrounded by nature, perfect vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 loved the treehouse. We can’t wait to go back again! Within five minutes of arriving a white faced capuchin came to say Hi on the deck! Beautiful, updated space. It was just as it looked in the pictures. Very safe, air conditioned if you need it. The housekeeper, concierge and groundskeeper (who lives next door) took great care of us behind the scenes. 10 minute walk (uphill) to lots of restaurants. Or a one minute drive. Easy drive to main beach. We rented a car but you could easily walk or taxi anywhere. The quieter Playitas beach is right down the dirt/gravel road but I would recommend a taxi there or using a 4x4 to go there or walking. We almost got stuck coming back up in our 4x2. Other beaches (espadilla, Manuel Antonio and biesanz) were off the main paved road a few minutes drive away. We enjoyed the pool after days at the beach or hiking. The treehouse was exactly as expected and was the most favorite part of our trip. Very relaxing. Highly recommend.

So many monkeys!

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home. On our first night we were visited by howler monkeys, white faces capuchin monkeys and squirrel monkeys. A word of warning, this home is NOT remotely wheelchair accessible. There are two entrances to access the home and they both require walking up and down a great deal of steep steps.

The pool and hot tub are very nice and our children spent a lot of time playing there. The three bedrooms downstairs are cozy and comfortable. We liked the outdoor shower in the master suite.

The kitchen is well equipped. We took advantage of the Chef service and enjoyed having Cristopher and Elias prepare our meals. The daily housekeeping service is nice and Denis, the groundskeeper is very kind.

My favorite part of the home was the beautiful deck. I loved reading a book, enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the monkeys play in the trees.

The location is great, just a short drive or walk down the road to the beach and a few miles outside of Manuel Antonio park. We would definitely stay here again and after seeing pictures, many of our friends have asked for more information on this property. We had a great first visit to Costa Rica and can't wait to come back.

Wonderful place for our family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our week at the Bali Tree house was perfect. Thank you to Hazel and Denis for meeting us for our arrival (in the middle of the night)and making sure everything was perfect each and every day. We were two families traveling with 4 boys b/w the ages of 9 and 12. The kids loved the pool and our excursions to Manuel Antonio National Park, Rainmaker (with suspension bridges), Zip Lining and the absolutely breath taking beaches. The local restaurants were exceptional and the people even nicer. Everyone had a smile on their face and a warm welcome, even the monkeys who visited every day! Shops, restaurants, beaches are all walking distance but be prepared for some steep hills and unpaved roads. For those concerned about the air conditioning, there were no problems. They worked perfectly. Although the housekeepers did a great job keeping everything in order, I also appreciated the ability to use the washer/dryer.

The Bali Tree House was great and Costa Rica even better. Hope to go back some day.

Unique property!

  • 4 of 5

We spent our 10 day Costa Rican vacation at the Bali Tree House and thoroughly enjoyed it. The house and property are very unique with a nice pool / hot tub and a beautiful wrap-around porch. The house has lots of windows, allowing for a nice view of the wildlife. It rained often while we were there (early June) and a large pack of monkeys liked to climb on the porch and roof during thunderstorms. This was wonderfully entertaining and the sound of rain on the metal roof very relaxing. The outdoor shower in the Master bath was very pleasant.

The only negative was the beds and bedding throughout the house. All have very hard mattresses and thin bed linens. We like soft mattresses in our family so this definitely took some getting used to. The house has fairly good WiFi and a nice security system so we were otherwise comfortable and always felt safe. The water in the house is safe to drink as we all did and no one suffered any ill effects. There is a friendly dog who visits every day so be prepared to meet her. We definitely enjoyed the pool and hot tub.

The property is in a very unique location and if you are going to stay there you should plan to do some walking. There are steep steps to get down into the house and a steep climb down to the beach, as well as to nearby restaurants or to catch a bus. Taxis were readily available, but we enjoy walking so we usually did so. Local restaurants are very good - Emilio's Cafe is

great for any meal of the day and especially desserts. The beaches are beautiful. You can hike down to the beach on the road in front of Bali Tree house, or go a little further down the peninsula to Playa Biesanz which is smaller and better for snorkeling. It is a short hike to this beach but well worth it.

Manuel Antonio Park has great hiking, especially if you go early before the crowds come in. Lastly I want to mention the Rainmaker Reserve and canopy tour. This was one of our favorite excursions. We took a cab to the park and went on a self guided tour (a paid guide seemed unnecessary). The views, the suspension bridges and the waterfalls with swimming spots were fabulous. For a few extra dollars the sweet ladies at the park will make you lunch which was so worth it and delicious.

Enjoy Costa Rica and the Bali Tree House!

Manuel Antonio can be reached by a 20 minute flight from San Jose Airport (Juan Santamaria), or a beautiful 2-1/2 hour drive over mountains, through coffee plantations, down the coast through palm fields. The many small towns along the way gives one a great feel for the rural countryside, which is the true Costa Rica. Manuel Antonio is a bohemian mixture of people and places. Restaurants range from simple to five star quality. Great shopping for local crafts and art. This is not a 'surf' town like Tamarindo to the north. Lots of incredible live music. The beaches of Manuel Antonio are world class and the area is truly a tropical paradise.

Other Activities: Canopy tours, rafting, kayaking, butterfly farm
