The house if literally feet from the ocean. The beach was essentially private; boulders on each end of a group of homes keep the setting private. A large screened in porch provides a protected but lovely view of the ocean. The house itself is tastefully but subtlely decorated. It is absolutely lovely. The proprietor was friendly, responsive and helpful. Our vacation was lovely from start to end. Definitely plan to visit again.
We booked sandcastle because of the 5 star ratings, we were not disappointed. On our arrival we were greeted by Scott's wife who gave us a tour of the property and answered all our questions regarding the area etc., sandcastle was immaculate, everything and more had been provided. We watched the Dolphins most days, a few times they swam alongside the kayak that was provided with the property which we used everyday, because the water is so shallow, it was really warm. We have stayed at various villas in Florida over the last 15 years, this was by far the best. We would like to thank Valerie for her help with the booking and speedy responses to our many e.mails. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay in a beautiful home with amazing sea views. Need we say more.
Beautiful house and location. The furnishings are first class. We loved the screened front porch overlooking the private beach, with the rattan furniture. The bathroom and shower room were beautiful. We never sat in the main part of the livingroom at all, and used the smaller area where the TV was located. The master bedroom was lovely and the bed was firm to lie on. There is a fantastic barbecue on one of the decks with seats and a table. We saw lots of wildlife such as osprey, sting ray, baby hammerhead shark, baby shark, mother duck and eight ducklings, turtle, dolphin, heron, hummingbird, cormorant, signal crab, sand crab and lots more. We used the kayak almost every day and the dolphin swam next to us on a few occasions to our great delight. The sea is lovely and shallow and when the tide is out the sand is quite silt-like. I would say this is an excellent location if you're like me and are nervous of going in the sea. I never once felt scared when in the kayak or the sea. We only had a week here unfortunately as it was booked either side of our week. Just wish we could have had time to use the cycles. We would love to return at a future date.
Sandcastle is a special place. It's not for everyone, but we love it. If you're looking for a fast paced vacation location; this isn't it. We stayed here last year at the same time. It's clean, well maintained and beautiful inside and out. We like the fact that the water is very shallow and great for young children. It's very remote which means you have around a 10 to 15 minute drive to get to the store, but you're pretty close to everything once you get off the island. In fact; there's a water park at the mouth of the road to the island. The pictures of the house are right on. Enjoy your stay!
My wife, our 2 teens and I stayed at the beachfront Sandcastle cottage for a week and we were hoping for a relaxing place where we could enjoy the wildlife. This is exactly what we got.
The rental process with Valerie was flawless and she was very quick answering our requests. When we arrived at the cottage, we were welcomed by Scott who gave us a tour of the property and answered every single questions we had. The cleaning team was not done yet (because of our early arrival) and I happened to see the guy clean the BBQ. Man, did he clean that thing!!! He literally took it apart!. The house had everything we needed and was in perfect condition. We rent a lot of homes and this is by fas the cleanest one we stayed in. The bed sheets and mattresses were of excellent quality and the pillows looked like they were new. Everything smelled fresh.
We enjoyed the kayaks which we used every day and even got to paddle with dolphins. We saw rays, tons of crabs and many species of birds.
There are major grocery stores within 10 minute drive. The kitchen is very well furnished and we cooked our own meals all week. One of the hilights of our trip was the screened porche where we had every single meals. The sunset there is spectacular!
We will definitely return to this location!
I chose this house because the reviews were consistently strong. Each reviewer raved about the place, and yet when we arrived, I was still pleasantly surprised. The home is immaculate and the décor beautifully coastal. We felt at home immediately. Windows from floor to ceiling in the living room allow for 24 hour viewing of the ever-changing sea and sky. We spent nearly all of our time on the screened porch or on the lower seaside deck. Our plan was to have our son's wedding on the beach, but when we saw the gorgeous landscaping and stone walkway, we knew we had to hold the ceremony right there. It was perfect. Enjoy the quaint foodie joint, Becky Jack's Snack Shack and be sure to make at least one trip to Hudson to Whitney's Fish Market and get some fresh locally caught fish; the grill at the Sandcastle Beach House appeared to be brand new. For a great day trip, we recommend Honeymoon Island for some fantastic photo opportunities and an aquamarine sea. If you are cyclists, don't count on riding on Pine Island. We did a 6 mile trek and found the narrow roads and impatient locals do not support bicycle traffic. However, do not let this small detail keep you from going to this wonderful home; you will not be disappointed.
