An idyllic country house overlooking the magnificent Luberon, yet close to historic cities and villages such as Aix, Avignon, St Remy and Cassis.

On an exclusive private corner of the prestigious Golf de Pont Royal, tennis, horse riding, golf and many other activities are readily available. The main house comprises 4 public rooms, 2 king and 3 twin bedrooms, 2 further bathrooms and an exquisite kitchen. The independent pool house contains a further en suite twin bedroom and pool kitchen.

The large 33x17ft pool enjoys a sunny position with natural stone walling, a fountain and a delightful garden setting. The villa has many furnished terrace areas and a first floor balcony. One of only ten large magnificent residences in a secluded corner of the domaine, the open views are stunning.

A traditional stone barbeque, an outside dining room, and a huge garage/games room sit amid fully landscaped grounds. High quality local materials of oak, marble, ceramics and forged iron create a special ambiance

The Inside Story ‘from the Beginning’:

Designed by award winning local architects and created by skilled local tradesmen, Le Chardon d'or (the Golden Thistle) is the perfect holiday venue.

Natural stone floor tiling, local ceramics, Italian marble, timber detailing, and forged ironwork, combined with air-con, power showers, underfloor heating, lavish kitchens, and delightful bathrooms to create the perfect combination of old charm and today's exacting standards.

On the lower ground floor, the poolside lounge houses the wide screen TV, DVD, PlayStation and library of games and films. Turret stairs lead to a fine hall overlooking the sunken salon and dining room separated by a central cheminee, furnished in leather and oak, but most importantly with incredible open views to the Luberon.

The locally crafted kitchen benefits from a full range of Bosch appliances, including the ice and water dispensing American fridge. An en suite king bedroom sharing the views, and boasting a triple-headed shower and WC completes the story so far.

The Inside Story 'Part II':

...following the circular stairway upwards brings you to the turret en suite twin bedroom, looking to the dramatic Vernegues.

A few steps more and you reach the level containing 2 further twin bedrooms looking out to the Luberon, a working study with doors to the balcony, the full family bathroom, and the magnificent master suite with windows on three sides, including glazed doors to the spectacular fully furnished balcony.

All bathrooms have extensive tiling, and heated towel rails. All bedrooms have fine local furnishings, fully fitted wardrobes, crisp bed linen, duvets and deep pillows to create great sleeping environments!

On The Outside:

On the 1/2 acre landscaped site entered through imposing iron gates, with an intercom facility to the house for your guests, you will find a generous driveway with parking for 4/6 cars. The large garage has been designed as a games room with ping-pong, 8-ball American pool etc.

The garden has fabulous views to all sides, but none more so than the area housing the fully furnished dining terrace and craftsman-built stone BBQ. The house is surrounded by terraces; some covered, others open with comfortable exterior furniture.

The pool house has an independent en suite twin bedroom with TV and kitchen facilities. The 33x17ft pool has an electric safety cover and is surrounded by natural stone paving, grassed areas with olive trees and a feature dry-stone wall complete with water fountain. The pool can be heated out of season.

There are sun loungers, and ample furnishing to relax and enjoy this secluded and sunny spot. In essence it’s your choice between cool shady corners or the Provencal sun.

this architect inspired country home has been designed on 4 levels off a turret stairway, ideal for large parties to live in great comfort. The rooms to the rear overlook the Luberon, while those to the front face the golf course and unspoilt Provencal countryside. Public space comprises 2 comfortable lounges, a large oak dining room, a study, and many covered and open terraces and balconies. The crafted country kitchen has dishwasher,wash/ mach,micro,halogen hob,fan oven, and American f/freezer with water chiller/ ice dispenser, all by Bosch. The 6 bedrooms sleep 12 in comfort, 4 ensuites have power showers and marble wall tiles. Floors are in random local stone, and many rooms have beams. There is underfloor heating, aircon, and handcrafted working fireplace, as well as stone built BBQ. In the 1/2 acre gardens there is a large double garage/gamesroom, large heated pool with elec safety cover,areas for boule etc. Generous ext furnishings, incl sofas/dining area/pool loungers etc

If you can find a better rental villa, with the same specs, at the same or even a slightly higher price, *please contact me*. I have been doing my utmost best, and I couldn't...

The house, the pool chairs, the pool itself, the rooms, the power showers, the American fridge, the wireless internet, ... everything is top notch and well maintained. Ideal for 2 or more families. Excellent supermarket, boucherie and boulangerie/patisserie nearby (approx. 5 minutes drive).

Because the villa is located on top of a hill, you will enjoy an almost constant refreshing breeze. At least in August when we stayed there.

It would be very hard to find anything negative about this property. But as I am the world's leading expert in these matters (according to my otherwise lovely wife) I will give you 2 points if you absolutely insist:

The litlle waterfall that drops out of the charming, handbuild stone wall into the magnificent swimming pool is a bit noisy. Some will like this, some won't. The iron gates to the property have to be opened manually. And I'm used to electric gate openers. These are really all the negative (?) points I could come up with after a long and hard think. :)

Do yourself a favour, stop searching and book this villa now, before someone else does.

I am of course very pleased that this group had a fantastic vacation, bookings for next summer are already coming through much earlier than in past years, this review looks certain to increase demand further.

Heaven in Provence

This is our fourth stay at Le Chardon D'Or and we absolutely love it! We've stayed in luxury villas all over Europe but this is the best ever and the only one we've ever returned to.

From the moment we pull in through the gates, we slip straight into holiday mode. The owners have thought of everything and, although family friendly, this spacious house is beautifully looked after and presented, everything functions brilliantly and is furnished stylishly and incredibly comfortably. The local manager is excellent and will help with recommendations, bookings, etc.

On the very edge of this luxurious golf complex, the house enjoys reassuring security and, although set amongst a few other select villas, is totally private and not overlooked. It is perfect for extended families with large spaces for sharing and many sunny and shady terraces to escape to, each with wonderful views of the surrounding Luberon countryside and mountains.

If you can bear to tear yourself away from everything Le Chardon D'Or offers, we love pottering around nearby villages, enjoying provencal markets and fetes, buying gorgeous fruit and wine direct from local producers, as well as discovering amazing places such as the Calanques and Les Baux, Aix and Avignon, etc. Every visit is an adventure!

We choose to load up and drive down the route de soleil from Calais but friends and family fly into Marseilles (35 minutes away) which is an easy hop from the UK. From the youngest to the oldest, there is something for everyone here, it's stunning and a real pleasure. We're already planning our next trip!

What can we say……….this villa is just superb!!! After last year we thought we could never match the enjoyment we had then. WE HAVE DONE. The weather, the meals out, celebrations for Mum’s 90th birthday and many more enjoyable days. Thanks so much Karen, Andrew and the lovely lady who came to do the laundry….so helpful. Hopefully we will be back.

Exceptional villa and gardens

Superbly designed and equally well furnished and equipped - both inside and out. This property ticks all the boxes and made for a superb venue for two families (11 people) on their annual gathering. Plenty of space and amenities in the villa, likewise in the landscaped gardens and pool area where there is ample opportunity to 'group' or hide yourself away to read or just take in the views.

Tucked away in a small, exclusive development at the edge of a top class golf course complex, you can reach plenty of great places by car or simply stock up and create your own festival of food, wine and relaxation. For those feeling energetic there are the outside boules court along with pool and table tennis in the garage.

Thoroughly recommended.

Wonderful Chardon D'Or

This was our second visit. We returned because it is a great venue for a multi-generational holiday despite unseasonably bad weather in 2011. A generous and well organised owner, a comfortable house with great amenities and plenty to do in the region make it a superb destination. Plenty of space for everyone to have some privacy whilst plenty of communal areas - 6 separate outside table and chairs combinations. This year we had all our meals outside. We are not golfers and were anxious about it being in a development but it is very private and self contained and the setup works brilliantly. Not only the children enjoyed the heated pool and table tennis. We would strongly recommend for a great holiday.
