Overview

Colorado House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, plus loft, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to six people

This quintessential Colorado mountain house getaway is secluded, yet near lots of attractions. Just what you've been looking for and reasonably priced for all the high quality space and views that you get compared to some of those high priced resort town homes and small condos. Our home is located just 1 3/4 hours from Denver or Colorado Springs. Hike, bike, ski/snow board, cross country ski, fish, or sight see, and return to your cozy mountain cabin with all the comforts of home. Enjoy unprecedented peace, quiet and 180 degree views of the snow-capped Rockies, meadows, trees and rock outcroppings from the 20 foot wall of windows or loft. Look for antelope, deer, elk, golden eagles, owls and bear from the wrap around 500 square foot deck.

The home sits on two heavily wooded acres, has a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and Aspen tongue and groove ceilings. The master bedroom offers a full size king size bed, and the two other bedrooms (one on entry level with its own bath) offer queen beds. The entry level floor is fully finished and offers a third living area and game table as well as laundry room with washer/dryer. Stay connected with wireless satellite Internet, play games from the game chest, or enjoy movies on the DVD Player/52"' TV. Chef's kitchen is fully equipped for cooking or baking, and there is a propane gas BBQ on the deck for evening cookouts. Leave refreshed, relaxed and recharged!

Enjoy a multitude of attractions in the area, with just a short ride home to the peace and quiet of your exclusive and private mountain retreat. You can drive to Breckenridge to ski, shop or dine, hike or mountain bike hundreds of trails in the Pike National Forest, Lost Park Wilderness area, Kenosha Pass or Jefferson Lake, fish at Tarryall Reservoir, 4-wheel over Mosquito Pass (the old Stagecoach route to Leadville), Georgia Pass or Boreas Pass (the old railroad route to Breckenridge), or enjoy horseback riding nearby. Mount Princeton Hot Springs, near Buena Vista, offers two large pools for swimming (and a large slide) year round as well as spa treatments and fun for the whole family.

In winter, you can ski Breckenridge or Keystone, cross country ski out your back door, sled down the old ski hill at Indian Mountain, or go over to Hoosier Pass and snow shoe. Alternatively, you can ski at the more moderately priced, less used Monarch ski resort on Monarch Pass, which is down 285 west of Salida. Lots of great winter activities in Breckenridge too including an ice skating rink and hot chocolate sleigh rides in Frisco. They also have two Nordic lodges in Breckenridge and Frisco where you can cross country ski on groomed trails. Alternatively, just rent the skis in Fairplay and do it outside your door from the cabin!

About Gary Emig

We love to travel when we aren't working on real estate in the Denver area. David is a real estate agent, and Gary helps to manage our real estate development and rental business.

Gary Emig purchased this house in 2007

Why Gary Emig chose Colorado

We enjoy getting away to the beauty, clean air and serenity of the mountains as a break from our hectic lives. Our cabin is the perfect getaway from it all, yet still affords us many activities to get outdoors to enjoy nature's beauty.

What makes this house unique

Surreal views from every window and deck - it honestly feels like you are watching a movie in 3D, even at night! When you go outside, it feels like you are in a planetarium since there is no ambient light from anywhere. The dark skies with no ambient light allow you to see across the stars and galaxies and realize what a small a place our Earth is in the whole universe!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My sister and I had a wonderful week at our cabin, and in Colorado. The views are spectacular and it is so lovely and peaceful here. We did a lot of day trips and got to see a lot of your beautiful state. This is exactly what I wanted to do for my birthday this year, and to spend it with my sister made it so nice. We hope to come back again with our husbands one day, as we know they will love it as much as we did. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us and for the fabulous brownies and flower.

Nothing beats this...

  • 5 of 5

We really couldn't ask for more ! Gary and David were exceptional in attending to every detail and making us feel comfortable. From the tips of where to explore, to the delicious brownies that greeted us, and the millions and millions of stars in the sky - it was certainly a God-send vacation. The home was cozy, clean and had absolutely everything we needed including games, DVDs and a good stock of books. It was great ! We cooked every night, and was the perfect ambience to connect and laugh as a family.

For my girls aged 5 and 8, the sleds Gary left for us to use simply made their holiday. We took them to nearby Indian Mountain, and the park in Breckenridge to sled. Centrally located, we also did drives to Buena Vista, Royal Gorge in Canon City, Denver, the Florissant Fossil Beds and ski resorts of Keystone and Dillon and still had time to get back to admire sunset at 430pm at the house. Away from it all, it was amazing to be immersed amid nature and the alpines. The drives back to the house to and from our excursions never failed to take my breath away. The vistas were simply awesome.

Thank you for the memories Gary and David ! It really wouldn't have been the same if we had opted for yet another chain hotel or resort.

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about our wonderful time spent in this amazing home for our Christmas vacation. We chose the home based on it's location in the mountains and proximity to outdoor winter activities. The home has amazing views and the snow was perfect. It made for a magical Christmas. It was not hard at all to drive in the snow as the area does a good job of snow plowing the roads for safety. We spent a couple of days in Breckenridge skiing, shopping, and eating. We went ice fishing one day which was a first for us and the kids loved it. We found a local guide that set everything up for us and it was awesome. We drove to Colorado Springs and went to the Garden of the Gods and visited a few smaller towns in that area; Manitou Springs and Woodland Park. Gary was extremely helpful to us and checked in with us to make sure we had what we needed and made recommendations on driving routes as well as places to visit while we were there. I kinda don't want this secret to get out, but this home was everything we could have wanted and more. It made for a very memorable Christmas holiday for our family. We will definitely return.

Beautiful View Excellent Location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful cabin for a week during peak aspen color. This cabin has terrific views of the continental divide and amazing rock formations. We went to Tarryall Lake ~10 miles which was beautiful. Also, we went to Jefferson Lake which would be an excellent picnic spot. The fishing was great at both locations. The cabin is also located near gold medal trout fishing (not to be disappointed).

We loved watching the sunset and the stars at night. We went to Breckenridge one day ~1 hour beautiful drive.

We plan to come again.

Thanks,

Exactly What We Expected

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Gary and David's place this past weekend was an amazing experience. All of us are from Texas, and a 5 day trip to the beautiful Rocky Mountains was exactly what we needed to escape the Texas heat. The cabin was a perfect accommodation for all 6 of us. We never felt cramped and were able to make fantastic meals in the kitchen. The central location of the cabin was ideal for our day trips to American Safari Ranch, Breckenridge and Manitou Springs. For 6 professionals that are constantly being pulled in multiple directions by our careers, having the ability to wake up early, make a cup of coffee and reading on the porch allowed us all to escape and fully relax.

**Please utilize Gary and David's written driving directions as much as possible. On our last night, we decided to follow our car's GPS directions and ended up in the middle of Pike National Forest during a thunderstorm. I don't think our rented Suburban enjoyed the off-roading we ended up having to do. We made it home safely, but it was one heck of an adventure.**

If you want a chance to get away and relax, this place is your place.

AMAZING!!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about what a wonderful vacation we had here! Our main diversion was to hike, and Gary gave us recommendations the whole time we were there! He was like our own personal tour guide!! There were amazing hiking trails/mountains close to the cabin and we definitely got our fill.

As far as the cabin, it was incredible! There were only two of us, but we could have easily had another couple with us in the spacious downstairs. The view is breathtaking and it was hard to stop staring out the large windows to the picturesque mountains in the distance. Not to mention that Gary and David had scrumptious brownies waiting for us upon arrival! (Lucky we hiked a lot :-)

This cabin and its location are truly exceptional and I would recommend it to anybody looking to get away from the craziness of life and be at peace with nature. Thanks Gary and David!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your wonderful words of thanks. We are always so glad when our guests enjoy themselves so much while at the cabin. You are right, there are literally hundreds of trails and places to hike within a short, scenic drive. It is our pleasure to help our guests find just the right trail, or destination to visit. Just so everyone is aware, we can actually sleep up to six people with our two bedrooms and bath on the main living area, as well as another bedroom on the entry level with it's own bath. We hope to see you again soon for another relaxing visit to the scenic Rockies of Colorado!
