Mountain home w/INCREDIBLE VIEWS, Wildlife & Peace & Quiet

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 6 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, plus loft, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to six people

This quintessential Colorado mountain house getaway is secluded, yet near lots of attractions. Just what you've been looking for and reasonably priced for all the high quality space (2300 sq ft) and incredible views that you get compared to some of those high priced resort town homes and little condo closets. Our home is located just 1 3/4 hours from Denver or Colorado Springs. Hike, bike, ski/snow board, cross country ski, fish, or sight see, and return to your cozy mountain cabin with all the comforts of home. Enjoy unprecedented peace, quiet and 180 degree views of the snow-capped Rockies, meadows, trees and rock outcroppings from the 20 foot wall of windows or loft. Look for antelope, deer, elk, golden eagles, owls and bear from the wrap around 500 square foot deck.

The home sits on two heavily wooded acres, has a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and Aspen tongue and groove ceilings. The master bedroom offers a full size king size bed, and the two other bedrooms (one on entry level with its own bath) offer queen beds. The entry level floor is fully finished and offers a third living area and game table as well as laundry room with washer/dryer. Stay connected with wireless satellite Internet, play games from the game chest, or enjoy movies on the DVD Player/52"' TV. Chef's kitchen is fully equipped for cooking or baking, and there is a propane gas BBQ on the deck for evening cookouts. Leave refreshed, relaxed and recharged!

Enjoy a multitude of attractions in the area, with just a short ride home to the peace and quiet of your exclusive and private mountain retreat. You can drive to Breckenridge to ski, shop or dine, hike or mountain bike hundreds of trails in the Pike National Forest, Lost Park Wilderness area, Kenosha Pass or Jefferson Lake, fish at Tarryall Reservoir, 4-wheel over Mosquito Pass (the old Stagecoach route to Leadville), Georgia Pass or Boreas Pass (the old railroad route to Breckenridge), or enjoy horseback riding nearby. Mount Princeton Hot Springs, near Buena Vista, offers two large pools for swimming (and a large slide) year round as well as spa treatments and fun for the whole family.

In winter, you can ski Breckenridge or Keystone, cross country ski out your back door, sled down the old ski hill at Indian Mountain, or go over to Hoosier Pass and snow shoe. Alternatively, you can ski at the more moderately priced, less used Monarch ski resort on Monarch Pass, which is down 285 west of Salida. Lots of great winter activities in Breckenridge too including an ice skating rink and hot chocolate sleigh rides in Frisco. They also have two Nordic lodges in Breckenridge and Frisco where you can cross country ski on groomed trails. Alternatively, just rent the skis in Fairplay and do it outside your door from the cabin!

About Gary Emig

We love to travel when we aren't working on real estate in the Denver area. We do residential real estate development, new home building, and David is also an active real estate agent in Denver as well as Park County, where our cabin is located.

Gary Emig purchased this house in 2007

Why Gary Emig chose Indian Mountain

We enjoy getting away to the beauty, clean air and serenity of the mountains as a break from our hectic lives. Our cabin is the perfect getaway from it all, yet still affords us many activities to get outdoors to enjoy nature's beauty.

What makes this house unique

Surreal views from every window and deck - it honestly feels like you are watching a movie in 3D! The views from our deck are second to none. At night, when you go outside, it feels like you are in a planetarium since there is no ambient light from anywhere. The dark skies with allow you to see across the stars and galaxies and realize what a small a place our Earth is in the whole universe!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My sister and I had a wonderful week at our cabin, and in Colorado. The views are spectacular and it is so lovely and peaceful here. We did a lot of day trips and got to see a lot of your beautiful state. This is exactly what I wanted to do for my birthday this year, and to spend it with my sister made it so nice. We hope to come back again with our husbands one day, as we know they will love it as much as we did. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us and for the fabulous brownies and flower.

Nothing beats this...

  • 5 of 5

We really couldn't ask for more ! Gary and David were exceptional in attending to every detail and making us feel comfortable. From the tips of where to explore, to the delicious brownies that greeted us, and the millions and millions of stars in the sky - it was certainly a God-send vacation. The home was cozy, clean and had absolutely everything we needed including games, DVDs and a good stock of books. It was great ! We cooked every night, and was the perfect ambience to connect and laugh as a family.

For my girls aged 5 and 8, the sleds Gary left for us to use simply made their holiday. We took them to nearby Indian Mountain, and the park in Breckenridge to sled. Centrally located, we also did drives to Buena Vista, Royal Gorge in Canon City, Denver, the Florissant Fossil Beds and ski resorts of Keystone and Dillon and still had time to get back to admire sunset at 430pm at the house. Away from it all, it was amazing to be immersed amid nature and the alpines. The drives back to the house to and from our excursions never failed to take my breath away. The vistas were simply awesome.

Thank you for the memories Gary and David ! It really wouldn't have been the same if we had opted for yet another chain hotel or resort.

Beautiful place for a family retreat

  • 5 of 5

Gary was great to work with, always prompt responses and made my family and I feel welcomed to his and David's home.

We loved our stay at this remote mountain view home. We were wanting a place that offered a retreat setting, with beautiful surrounding and plenty of space for our three kids to enjoy our time there. For a family of five, it had more than enough room. Our kids loved the loft area, which they called a fort, made it their bedroom for the entire stay. We had two rooms with beds that went unused, so more than enough space literally. The home is clean and inviting. The views are phenomenal and can be enjoyed in so many place throughout the home from inside or the deck that has plenty of seating. The pictures truly do not do it justice. If you are looking for a remote place to getaway from it all with those who matter most to you, this is the place. You do have to drive a bit to get to the nearest store for supplies. 30 min to the nearest supermarket, so stock up before you get there. It is such a nice drive we didn't mind it at all. Thank you Gary and David for welcoming us in to your beautiful home, our family enjoyed the delicious brownies, games, and books you were so kind to provide. We hope to one day soon return to Turk Pony cabin and make some more unforgettable memories!

Great Cabin, Great View, Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for our vacation. Plenty of room and very quiet. It's a little off the beaten path which was exactly what we were looking for. Gary was very helpful from the moment we booked all the way up to when we checked out.

My favorite thing about this stay was the views. While we were there the mountains were covered with snow which was awesome to wake up and see. You could also see tons of stars at night.

Will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Colorado!

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed for 5 days. We had a great time. The views are much better than the ones shown in the pics. There was an early snow that changed the scenery completely. It was beautiful. The cabin is very well kept and clean. Gary is a very gracious host and easily reached. Highly recommended!

Gary treated us more like family than renters. The cabin home was very clean and cozy to settle right in. My husband and I were looking for a quite vacation with a little bit of adventure and the cabin offers both of those. However, being from Minnesota and not used to the alltitudes 8000 feet!! I should have taken Gary's advice and just enjoyed the cabin and trails in the area for at least a day before trying to visit every place in Colorado.

Gary was more welcoming than any place

I have ever stayed. He left flowers and yummy brownies. But I was exceptionally impressed that he stayed up until 130 am to make sure us minnesotans found the cabin okay in the dark and to make sure we had all we needed including letting us know he had the summer blankets on the beds and the location of the comfy winter blankets if needed. Again everything was clean including the bedding.

As far as view, yes you will be in awe! We saw a bear, antelope, and a elk near the cabin mainly at dusk.

Thanks again, Gary and David for the awesome taste of colorado. We will be back.
