|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Paradise found in laid back fishing village of Placencia, Belize. Feel the soothing sea breezes as you sip your rum punch from your shady tile floored wrap around veranda. Watch the colorful sunsets and distant mountain storms from your lookout tower. Relax for your afternoon nap in a hammock overlooking the lagoon or in the comfort of your air-conditioned bedroom.
Rental cars are available but unnecessary as you are within walking/bicycling distance of groceries, airport, shopping, the beach, various tour agencies, and restaurants. Snorkeling, diving, or fishing tours to the incredible undersea world are available daily, weather permitting. You can buy fresh fish and local produce and create your own gourmet meal in your fully equipped kitchen.
Stroll along the beach at sunrise and if you are lucky you may see dolphins frolic in the calm Bay of Honduras. Take breakfast in one of the beachside restaurants while visiting with the locals. Dance the evening away to local music at a beachfront gathering.
Belize is a friendly, English speaking country with British, Caribbean, and Mayan Indian influence. Placencia is a town of a few hundred people on a peninsula of the best beaches in Belize, just a few miles from the Great Barrier Reef. Most people are Creole, Hispanic or Central American with a fairly large group of U.S. expatriates along with Canadians, Europeans, and world travelers in general. Safety should not be a concern as Belizians love visitors to their country and are a treasure in themselves. You will find yourself settling into their leisure island time quickly. And when you get back home you may find it hard to adapt!
We came to Belize as I had always heard it was beautiful. I fell in love with the village of Placencia, purchased the property and built this home. We enjoyed our time here so much and wanted to give our friends, family and guests the opportunity to visit a destination we enjoy so much.
Ginny and Mark purchased this house in 2005
Placencia was aptly described as a laid back fishing village, and so it is. The people are warm, friendly and I have always enjoyed my time here - it is very relaxing. The location is perfect as you can visit every part of Belize easily, and the snorkeling and diving are incredible.
Amazing views from the 37 foot lookout tower must be experienced to understand. The ability to visit anywhere in Belize and return home to my comfortable home is very valuable to me. I enjoy the people who have settled and visit here. The inner peace and relaxation I receive from visiting here can not be described.
The house itself is very well built, well equipped, 20 minute walk to town center, and overall comfortable enough if you like hard beds. Ginny and Mark are nice people and we got to meet them before we moved in, so it truly is with sadness that we were so disappointed and feel obligated to share our experience. We booked this home believing it would be quiet and private. It is neither. We were told the tenant downstairs was moving out...he didn't. And while a good enough guy, it's not a private home at all. Next door neighbors also very close, so no real privacy on the covered balcony. Two large scary neighbor dogs had to be called by name and avoided. The house sits ON THE main road on the peninsula. We didn't know that. Construction is going on everywhere in Placencia, and we didn't know that. Best to stay on the beach away from the road. Huge trucks and tons of traffic all day every day. Dust, noise....lots of it. We didn't know that either. The walls in the bedrooms do not go all the up to the ceiling so any sounds from anyone doing anything is shared by everyone. We didn't know that. We were so frazzled by noise pollution and feeling so stuck that we actually moved out and spent 10 days and double money we couldn't afford at the Maya Beach hotel. We loved it there.
Rental cars are sketchy at best and $65-70 a day at least. Auto gas is very expensive. We felt Stuck! Beware...Staying 30 plus days in Belize requires going by boat to Independence and paying $50 BZ each for extension. The best Placencia grocery store is an easy walk as is the main sidewalk and beach. We loved the Belizian people, local beach bars and the beach, the food was great...all of which we enjoyed. Maybe for a week this house could work, but we were there to really relax and write and paint for 8 weeks! Our nerves were frazzled so we moved to the hotel mid way and then left 3 weeks early - a really huge expense for us. Unfortunately, all we got from the owners was advice to use ear plugs...which we actually had to do. Beware and make sure you ask the right questions that matter to you.
This is a great place to stay in Placencia. The home is very clean and well maintained and has all the necessary things to make your stay enjoyable. They have a full and complete kitchen, with juicer-blender-and all the other things normally found in the kitchen. They have 2 hammocks, snorkel gear, basketball, books, games, and tv cd's and 2 bicycle's which is about all you need to get around the village. The home is located 100 yards from the grocery store. Then you can ride or walk to "downtown placecencia", which you can cover in about a mile at the most, here you will find all you need food-drink-grocery-pharmancy.
Just returned from Placencia and enjoyed every minute. I would recommend this location if you are looking for a quite place to relax. You can sit on the porch and read, dive, snorkel, tour Maya sites or sit in the sand on the beach. Ginny was very helpful for our first visit to the mainland. The banana plantation tour was great and cheap. We rented a car and drove from Belize City, it's beautiful country and you can buy tamales and fruit on the way.
This was our first trip to Belize, and we are extremely happy we chose to stay at The Arches in Placencia. We spent a week there, did quite a bit of sight-seeing, and The Arches was by far the most beautiful VRBO we saw.
This home is modern and thoughtfully designed, comfortable, and very clean. The owners are very accomodating and truly love Belize. They have filled the home with Belizian art and furniture. The kitchen is large and nicely equipped. The rental unit is the full second floor, and there is a full-wrap around deck on the second floor and a third-level deck and sitting are with a fabulous view.
The location is perfect. It is a pleasurable and short walking distance to the village of Placencia and fresh produce stands, the main commercial area, The Shak (amazing smoothies and light meals), Wendy's Restaurant, the beach and a wide selection of bars/restaurants and native craft and gift shops. A new full grocery store is less than a block away.
We rented a car to take day trips. The car rental was, conveniently, a short walking distance also. And Mark and Ginny can recommend places to see in the area, and charter boat trips.
The locals are a diverse and friendly blend of different cultures. There is a very easy going and accepting atmosphere in Placencia, and we always felt safe and relaxed.
This was one of the most amazing trips we have taken. We still talk about it and have wonderful memories. We would definitely go back and stay at The Arches, and strongly recommend it to anyone.
The location is spectacular with shops, grocery stores and restaurants all within walking distance. The property managers were great and very helpful in coordinating our excursions. The house itself was great and very relaxing. The kitchen is fully stocked and we cooked several meals including our Christmas feast! Highly recommend this vacation home.
My friend & I recently stayed at the Arches for 4 nights. The pictures of the condo don't do it justice. The photos are nice, but we were pleasantly surprised. The condo has hardwood floors throughout and hardwood carvings from local wood. The place is super clean and is in a great area. The private tower is a great added touch.
Unfortunately because we had excursions planned for every day, we didn't get to fully appreciate the condo or the village. If/when I go back to Belize, I would definitely stay here again.
Ginny is great to work with.
Mayan archaeology, world class fishing-snorkeling-diving on Great Barrier reef, wildlife tours, sunset sea cruises, and sailing charters are all offered as day trips with various tour groups in Placencia. The beach is less than a five minute walk away and we have two bicycles for your use for pleasure riding.
We require a fully refundable $200.00USD reservation/damage deposit when making the reservation. After you check out of the house, we return your $200.00USD deposit. One half of the rental/tax amount is due 60 days prior to your check in, the other one half is due 3 weeks prior to your check in.
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay.
