Amazing property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a family gathering for 3 nights. The property had everything we needed- large dining area, comfortable beds, large grill, heated pool, hot tub, and breathtaking ocean views. Meli and Brian were great to work with. They explained things very thoroughly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They even put in extra TVs when they knew we were coming. They are also very non-intrusive. As soon as they gave us the keys, we didn't see or hear them until we gave the keys back, although they gave us their numbers in case we needed anything. We actually have no complaints! We highly recommend this property for a vacation getaway.

Great view. But HARD PASS.

  • 1 of 5

Great view in the back. Not all the heating lamps outside work. The A/C unit broke down at one point (It was repaired). A few of the bathrooms didn't look or feel clean and a few toilets were not fully functional as indicated by notes next to toilet. A little tacky. Agreed on checkout time prior to checkout then pushed it up day of checkout without notice. Kitchen sink kept getting blocked. Very slow drainage. No cable TV:( We had a good time overall but there were way to many issues small issue and should have never come up in my opinion for the what we were paying. OH and I current have a legal judgement against the host who violated contract and policy and kept my security deposit after checkout. The host also made uncredited and unproven claims of damage to her property as justification. So...I will never be renting from this host again and I would save yourself the potential headache. I know it looks good and tempting for the pictures...but you should PASS.

Amazing property with an incredible view

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Chateau del Mar when my family came from out of town for a reunion, and it was perfect - exactly what we were looking for. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and the view was incredible. The kitchen was clean and big, and since I love to cook, it was perfect. The kids really loved the spacious backyard and their own color-schemed bedroom. The homeowner was very responsive to any questions we had prior to arrival. I would recommend this property for anyone traveling with a large family, it made our family reunion that much better!

Experience of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

Chateau Del Mar is truly a one of a kind property. I couldn't have asked for anything better. My girlfriend and I spent a lovely relaxing couple of days overlooking the peninsula of Southern California. The house is located at the center of all the attractions we planned to visit. We started our days by eating breakfast in the backyard overlooking the Pacific Ocean with pelicans flying over our heads. Their is a unique splash of taste throughout the entire home.

The homeowner and her daughters made us feel at home. They were nothing but helpful through out our stay. Everything we could have possibly thought of was provided - the property was fully equipped for our convenience.

Definitely an experience of a lifetime.

amazing view -- house not quite like the pictures!

Amazing views but a disappointing house

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

If you are looking to have one of the most amazing views in California, this house is the place you want to be. The yard offers a beautiful setting and the neighborhood is first class.

Unfortunately, the house is not very well maintained and the time we spent in the house was a disappointment.

The refrigerators were disgusting (and smelly) and left over food and condiments were inside. The kitchen is in badly need of an update. Drawers are old and don't fit very well. Pots and pans and essentials are old and should be replaced.

Curtains and shades had holes in them and should be replaced.

At least two of the bathroom toilets had signs on them not to flush toilet paper down the toilet - fairly disgusting when using the bathrooms. Very little hot water throughout the house.

All of the TV's had a smart TV feature but no cable or satellite TV is available - we had to spend half the day at a sports bar on a Saturday to accommodate the 3 college alums who were playing that day - not something we were looking forward to.

The pictures on the website should be updated. Although the views were beautiful, the yard is much different than the pictures portrayed. The decks and hot tub near the bluff were torn out and some support poles were left barely attached to the ground. My daughter almost got hurt by touching a post that fell down within a few feet of her head. Gutters were hanging off the back off the house.

The furniture and fixtures need to be updated. I sat on a chair that broke when I first sat on it. It could not have been the first time this happened. My 27 year old daughter touched a hand rail while walking down the stairs (I witnessed it) and it came off the wall. It was not secured to a stud in the wall. The hot tub was not full and the pool was so cold (in the shade most of the day) it could not be used.

Not disclosed in the ad for the house is a cleaning fee and a deposit (for a 3 day stay) that we have not yet received. Given the condition of the house, I would like to get back at least half of my rental fee.

I use HomeAway to rent our ski house in Colorado and know that you need to fix these things and keep the house in good condition for renters who pay a fee to use your home. At least 3/4 of our renters are repeat guests.

Unbelievable, beautiful views, but if you want to spend time in the house be ready for a home that needs a lot of work!

Owner's Response: You have been by far, our worst tenant to have stayed at Chateau Del Mar. I'm amazed after the damages you left my property with, you continue to hurt my business. Surprisingly, during your stay I never heard any of these comments until I became a witness of these damages and informed you of them. After all this, you threatened me with writing a bad review if I didn't refund the deposit. These false accusations came about as soon as I informed you that your deposit would not be returned due to the vast amount of damages you cost me. Which I may add, was at least triple the amount of the deposit. How come there were no complaints during your time at the property? You can imagine how much of a risk, as a homeowner, I am taking by handing you a multi-million property with just a $3k deposit. It seems that we both take part in the hospitality business, I'm sure you wouldn't want your guests to treat your home the way you treated mine. Thankfully, there aren't many travelers like yourself otherwise none of us would be in business.

Wonderful view

  • 5 of 5

We had family fly from out of town and we all stayed at the house for 4 nights. We had an amazing time and the house was gorgeous. The beds were very comfortable and the yard makes a great place for photos. The location is unbeatable for an oceanside event. We also were able to drink our coffee on the porch and watch whales in the morning which was amazing. The kitchen comes fully stocked with cookware and we were able to cook for the whole family and for our party. The grill was also ready-to-use and in good shape.

The ocean is only a short hike away and it looks to be good surfing, it was good hiking and tide pooling for us. Plus on the property was a beautiful pool and a huge hot tub overlooking the ocean. Who could ask for more? The owners were a pleasure to work with and made sure we had everything we needed. We would highly recommend this location to all of our family and friends!

Palos Verdes Estates is an upscale community located on the NW flank of the Palos Verdes Peninsula w breath-taking views of the Pacific Ocean and the entire South Bay. Rising from the shores of Santa Monica Bay, the Peninsula features rolling hills that steadily rise above the bay, ultimately becoming sheer cliffs reaching up to 200 ft above the ocean. Horse trails meander through the hillsides. Careful planning has helped to preserve the beauty of the coast and hills and to guarantee a balance of preservation and development. The city is home to golf and tennis clubs as well as many cultural entities including ballet, the chamber music society, art exhibits, a botanical garden and world-famous Wayfarer Chapel (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). Test scores are very high in this area. The region is very low density with condominiums and single-family homes ranging from the affordable to multi-million dollar estates, many of them with commanding views of the Pacific.
