Why Sandra Walker chose Hyannis

After vacationing on the Cape for twenty years we finally realized our dream and purchased 493 and 503 Ocean Street. Although the homes were in dire need of updating as I looked at the beautiful beach across the street from our homes all I could hear was 'location, location, location'. It doesnt get any better than Ocean Street in Hyannis. Veterans Beach is across the street, Kalmus Beach is 1/8th of a mile at the end of Ocean Street and the Ocean Street boat docks where you get the ferries to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are 1/8th of a mile in the other direction

Our favorite escape...thank you for everything!

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this home for three consecutive years. It is a beautiful place across from the beach with great views. The house is always very clean, with nice linens, furniture, comfortable beds and decor. The owners always go out of their way to make us feel welcome. It’s a long drive for us but always worth the trip, thanks to them. This summer the weather was great. Our family is always sad to leave and we look forward to returning again next July.

Cape Cod has become our regular vacation spot over the past few years, and our favorite way to get away from the city. The ferry to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are walking distance from the house, and many shops and restaurants are a few minutes drive and a rotary away. Thank you so much to our hosts for making this time for my family and I such a pleasure, we’ll see you next year!

Owner's Response: It is always our pleasure having families vacation at our SummerWinds of Hyannis homes. We enjoy meeting new families each year, and look forward to seeing our repeat clients. Some of our repeat client children call our home "their Cape House", which we encourage with our "welcome back to your Cape House blackboard". It's always sad seeing our clients depart, but we look forward to seeing them and the new additions to their family next year. .

Perfect cape rental

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time on the cape and we couldn't have asked for a better rental experience. Jim and Sandi are some of the most gracious hosts you will ever meet. We arrived to a clean house stocked with all the amenities you could ask for from beach chairs and towels to a BBQ with 2 full tanks of propane. They welcomed us with a huge table of wine, cheese, fresh fruit, and ice cold water. The house itself is well laid out with 2 bedrooms and a large family room and bathroom in the basement. The first floor has another living room and kitchen (completely stocked with pots, plates, utensils etc..), formal ding room and bedroom with bath and crib. There is also a laundry room/bathroom on the first floor. The second floor has 2 additional bedrooms and a landing with 2 beds perfect for kids. The house easily handled our party of 12 with flexibility to accommodate additional day guests.

The location is also quite good for families, particularly with young kids. There is a park with a public beech, marina, and playground directly across the street with a life guard during the day. The water is very calm and our 4 and 6 year old could swim independently. An additional beach 1/4mile down the road was larger but also featured calm water and a snack bar with ice cream and burgers.

About 1/2 mile in the other direction is the port area with restaurants and ferries making daily trips to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Main street Hyannis is about 1.5 miles away. There is ample parking in front of the house.

Again I can not say enough good things about our hosts. The communication was excellent leading up to the rental and they were highly attentive for our entire stay going above and beyond to ensure we had a great vacation. Would rent this house again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful Stay, Nice House!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay over Labor Day Weekend. The house is in a great location to beaches, Main Street, the ferries, etc.

Sandi and Jim were great to work with. We greatly appreciated the nice amenities awaiting us. They checked in to see if everything was okay often. Why anyone who give them a negative review is beyond me. I can’t say enough about how nice the rooms were and how clean the house is.

The house was perfect for our family as we had 11 people (adults and kids). The bedroom on the 1st floor is great for a person who has mobility issues.

We enjoyed it so much that we will be back next year.

It was a great end to the summer!

do your homework

  • 2 of 5

The house was in generally good condition (though I wouldn't call it luxury by hotel standards) and had nice spacious bedrooms and comfortable beds, though there are really only 5 bedrooms, not 6. The 6th room is essentially a large space at the top of the stairs with two twin beds and no door--not really a good space for kids or adults. Adults want a door and the kids couldn't fall asleep hearing the adults downstairs. The living areas were tight for 12 people--not everyone could sit down together in any one living room and it was a tight fit to get everyone eating at the same table inside. The proximity to the beach was nice and in general the house met our needs.

There are minimal toys & games--I'd hardly call the space a playroom, it's a section of basement that is partially finished with a small closet that has a few games that are more for older children. And several little things broke while we were there, the coffee pot, dvd player and a showerhead.

Also, be careful with this landlord. They were very nice and helpful up until the month before our rental, but once they have all of your money they are much less available. I had to call twice the week before I checked in to get the information on how to get into the house. Also bear in mind that this house is directly next door to the landlords, sharing lawn space, which was helpful in some ways and awkward in others. We also had a problem with the security deposit, which they cashed the day after we checked out and then wouldn't tell us why, ignoring our e-mails & phone calls for an entire week. The reason they cashed it was certainly debatable, considering we followed their checkout list to a T. I've rented many houses and apartments and this is the first time I've ever had a security deposit cashed. They also waited beyond 30 days to refund the balance of the security deposit.

All in all a decent rental, with several big bumps in the road.

Owner's Response: We have been in the high quality home rental business for twelve years, and pride ourselves with client satisfaction. Our clients are our utmost priority. I would be happy to provide upon request the emails of numerous repeat clients who return year after year as they are greatly satisfied with their stays at this home, and the client services we provide. This is the first time we have received a negative comment from a client. It is unfortunate that Lauren was not satisfied with her rental, and we regret that as we strive for perfection. Her description of the house is completly incorrect and Lauren neglected to mention that when the prior client informed us that they had to leave a day early to attend a wedding I called Lauren and offered her an additional nights stay at the beginning of her rental for no additional fee, which she took advantage of. Also no mention of the surprise amenities we provide for all our clients of fresh roses, cold drinks and.numerous snacks on the dining room table, waiting for her arrival. No deduction was taken from her security for the broken shower head, DVD Player or coffee pot. We were only notified upon her departure of a broken shower head not the other items. A minor deduction was taken for the professional cleaning of greatly soiled living room carpets, which had been professionally cleaned the day before her arrival. Our rental agreement clearly states that we have a good carpet cleaner, but if the carpets require professional cleaning the deduction will be taken from their security. Again Laurens comments are unfortunate, and I hope her next rental home proves to be more satisfying for her.
