The apartment building was almost totally handbuilt by my husband Stewart (who was a builder when we lived in Scotland). It was created as somewhere that we would love to live, with lots of handmade furniture and eco-features. The apartment is heated exclusively with a wood boiler and solar panels. All the lights are low energy LEDs, and the building itself was built using wood from sustainable sources.
I will meet you at the apartment to hand over the keys and answer any questions you may have. I live nearby so if you have any questions or problems during your stay then I am always on hand to deal with them.
Our family has stayed in many hotels, hostels, apartments, and houses. I must say these accommodations were probably the best we've ever stayed in and at a great value! I have never written a review but feel compelled to now: first as a thank you to the owners and secondly to share this great find with other families wanting to travel to this beautiful part of Austria. We wanted to take our kids skiing and found this home was situated so close to ski lifts and had incredible views, parking on site, wifi, and sleeping space for 9! The owner, Heather, was extremely timely, friendly, informative and helpful in all communications prior to our arrival. The superior customer service continued throughout our entire stay! A bonus for us is Heather speaks English! We were going to arrive later than expected and she was very accepting of that. When we finally arrived after a long drive in the snow and heavy traffic, we were greeted with a smile, a complete tour of the home, AND a fridge stocked with fresh milk, cold beer and a bottle of wine! This was so wonderful as there were no stores open at that time. She had all the brochures of the area and explained to us the best place for us to ski. The next day, we were at the ski lifts in less than 5 minutes by car (you could walk if you wanted/needed to). She even came up our second day to provide us with more detailed skiing options! We have seven children and it can be challenging to find affordable accommodations. We all fit very comfortably in this spotless, clean, and beautiful home. Heather supplied us with coffee, hot cocoa, and more. The kitchen had everything anyone would need to come back after a long day of skiing and enjoy a relaxing dinner "at home" or there were plenty of nice restaurants nearby. There was a space for us to store all of our ski equipment also, and what seemed to be an endless supply of hot water! Two full bathrooms are very nice with a large family. Each bedroom has closets/drawers! We had grey skies much of our stay but on our last day the sun was shining in a clear blue sky providing us an absolutely stunning view of the mountains from the kitchen and living room. During warmer weather, one could enjoy time out on the huge deck. Searching online for a place to stay can be overwhelming. You can't always tell what a place is REALLY like. I can tell you that you will not be disappointed here. I would highly recommend it to all my friends & family. Reserve it!
Our stay was fabulous. It first started off with the communication with our host, Heather. She was very prompt and friendly when returning our email inquiries, and she is just as friendly and helpful in person. The house was in a great location with a beautiful view of the mountains and glacier. It was warm and prepared for our arrival. The inside of the apartment is beautiful with natural decor, comfortable beds and high quality furniture. The kitchen is well-stocked with all of the necessities you need for your stay. Our kids loved the triple bunk bed room with the trundle bed for kid #4. The sauna is quite small and we did not get to use it during our short stay, but I'm sure it is a nice amenity to have after a long day of hiking and/or skiing. The entry way has a great area for hanging ski gear, wet gloves and hats, and all of our winter coats and boots. There is also a nice utility room with a sink and washing machine. Everything in the apartment is top-notch. The bathrooms are clean and spacious. Plenty of towels provided which is always nice!
The apartment is in a great location for walking and trail hikes. Shopping is a short drive away. And of course, Zell am See and Kaprun are only a 10-15 minute drive to give you access to ski lifts, trails, snow activities, etc.
We enjoyed our stay so much, that we already talked about going back for a longer stay. What a treat to find such a nice place!
