About Christine

My husband Michael and myself purchased the property when it had a little rustic cottage on it that we used for a couple of years as a family. We decided to remodel it and start sharing it with other families wanting to visit "up north". We have enjoy meeting families since 2008 and each year since, watching families experience togetherness...this has been our goal; bringing families together for memories that will last a lifetime.

Christine purchased this cottage in 1997

What makes this cottage unique

We feel the best part of Bass Lake is the size. The 100 acre lake is large enough to enjoy many water activities yet small enough to not have all the loud noise of the larger lakes. You can experience quiet surroundings, amazing stars and the beauty of nature that's all around you. You can use all 5 senses to the fullest...sight, sound, touch, smell and taste. Something that is hard to find unless you're relaxed with family in a peaceful place you can call yours for the week...Hidden Gem Cottage, Relax and leave your busy life at home.

Great place for a celebration!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our Anniversary at this beautiful home. Christine was so kind and welcoming. She went above and beyond to make our stay special. The home is perfect for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. The house was very clean and decorated beautifully. I especially enjoyed waking up to a great view of the lake. We enjoyed relaxing by the lake, hot tub and the hammock. I also took a ride down the slide. The house is in a great location, close to Traverse City. There are so many things to do near by boating, kayaking, hiking, shopping and great resturaunts. This is truly a hidden gem. Thank you for the memories!

The cottage was beautiful. Well cared for and clean.

  • 4 of 5

The property is beautiful and well cared for. Lots of relaxing outdoor furniture. The lake is quite peaceful, not much action. But not really clean for swimming. We took our boat to another lake for water activities. It would've been fabulous if there had been a toilet in the laundry room.

Great Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The entire family had a great time at the Hidden Gem cottage. The house was perfect for our family and had everything that we need. Christy and Mike did a great job of updating and taking care of the property and were extremely accommodating and helpful when we had a question or needed help with a quick repair to the paddle boat.

All day long, the entire family was outside enjoying the lake, beach and all of the toys. The floating raft and slide was a big hit with our kids, as well as the paddle boat. The lake, while on the smaller side, was perfect. There was very little boat traffic, so anytime we took the pontoon boat out for a ride for fishing, tubing, etc., we were the only one's on the lake. It was a great time.

If you are considering this place for your next trip, I hope you will enjoy it and make as many memories as our family did.

Great vacation. Very clean and well maintained property!!

  • 4 of 5

We (family of 5) had a great week at Hidden Gem Cottage. The cottage is very clean and comes with all you need for a great stay. Plenty of outdoor options for both adults and kids to spend their time. The hot tub is a huge plus along with the true sandy beach area. Included are all the utensil needed to make a full blown dinner or just grill hamburgers. Fishing is great, during our week stay we caught over 30 bass and a good size pike (hint: in the weeds between the boat launch and the cottage in about 8 ft of water). The cottage is exactly as the photos depict. There are two reasons we give it a 4 rather then 5. One being it only has one bathroom the other being the size of the lake. We rented a boat for the week and had a great time tubing, 95% of the time we were the only boat on the lake. BUT the lake is very small, if you have your own boat bigger then 20ft with some HP behind it you will run out of lake in a hurry. It was fine for the pontoon we had but add one or two more boats tubing/skiing it would be crowed. We would definitely go back and recommend the cottage for a peaceful vacation, just keep the lake size in mind if you are bringing you own boat. The lake is very peaceful and full of wildlife to enjoy and relax!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us and we’re glad you had a great time! We try very hard to make your stay memorable. Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy you had fun tubing, it’s always wonderful to see the kids and families enjoying their stay! We feel the 100 acre lake is a personal lake, without the extra noise and commotion of the boats and jet skis that are on the larger lakes. Thats why we think its a special Hidden Gem, small enough for relaxing and large enough to allow you to enjoy tubing with the kids. Families that bring their boat to the cottage do enjoy the lake, although, like to visit a day out on Lake Michigan. With the boat launch very close and convenient it makes it easy to explore the beautiful area. We look forward to having you back in the future!!

Great cottage on the lake with plenty of toys for the kids.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 7 (2 adults an 5 kids) enjoyed a week at the cottage. It is cozy inside but plenty of room to spread out in the outdoor living space. A great dock with a sandy area and row boat were all a hit for children of all ages. Close to sleeping bear dunes an traverse city. This was our first time to Michigan and our family was wowed by all the offering. With direct flights from DFW it won't be long til all of Texas shows up!
