Lovely private traditional style house with fabulous seaviews of Inishturk, Clare Island and the wild Atlantic Ocean. Only 3min walk from Stunning White Strand/Renvyle Beach very safe for swimming. On the Scenic Connemara Loop and Wild Atlantic Way. Ten minute drive to Romantic Kylemore Abbey and the wilderness of Connemara National Park. The location is probably the best in Connemara near the beaches, mountains and main attractions in the region.
The house itself is built in the traditional style with the fireplace at the centre of the house and hobs for sitting on either side during cold weather. The stove burns wood/coal or turf and can be used to cook stews slowly during the day while you are out mountain climbing or strolling down the local beaches.
The bedrooms feature a double bespoke wooden bed especially made for us and the singles are all victorian iron beds with new deep confortable matresses.
House is open plan with spiral staircase and views overlooking the sea. It has a warm country cottage feel to it and sits on an acre of land. Garden fenced very safe for kids. It sleeps eight with 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are downstairs. Solar panels heat the water in summer and an open fire (supplemented with oil fired central heating) warms the space. The house comes with all linen and towels, a washing machine and a dishwasher. We can arrange all sorts of extras such a yoga lessons, ecological walks and dinner delivered. Free Wifi.
There are salmon and trout lakes within 15 minute drive - Lough Inagh, Kylemore Lough. Also fly fishing on the Dawros River. Clifden river (Owenglin) is around 35mins drive. Lough Corrib is around an hour away as is Lough Mask. Both excellent fly fishing lakes I can put you in touch with Gillies /boat hire etc for all of these locations.
Great place for accessing Offshore Islands. Inishbofin ferry is just 35min drive and Clare Island /Inishturk Ferry is just an hour drive. Inishbofin is a beautiful island full of beautiful beaches, wildflower hay meadows with the rare breeding bird Corncrakes. The other two islands are of international importance for breeding seabirds including guillimots, razorbills, puffins and fulmars.
This property new to the rental market in 2015
Moved here from Dublin in 1998 for 6 weeks and connemara put me under her magical spell...mountains, Islands beaches. Heaven on earth ...I never left!
Marie Louise Heffernan purchased this house in 2015
You can hear the waves lapping on the shore on a quiet night
The skies are so dark here the milky way looks 3D
Great place to watch the evening sunset
Walk to the beach in 3 minutes !
We really loved Ireland. You can't complain about the weather when you expect a whole week of rain and you get only a few showers. Quite windy though. Connemara is one of the most beautiful places on earth we ever saw (and we saw quite a lot). The cottage is a perfect spot for exploring the region.
One thing though: you don't have a sea view from the cottage. You have to be in the very upper part of the garden to spot some water. But never mind: it was a pleasant walk down to the seaside.
Marie-Louise was a perfect host, providing us with tips on things to see and do.
The house was very comfortable with big well-equipped kitchen. The location is out of town but generally close to some great things to do like the Connemara Nat'l Park and Kylemore Abbey. Our favorite day was actually a hike quite close by that we found in a book in the house: Tully Mountain Hike. We got a little lost on the way back trudging up the mountain and over bog and enjoyed the first part walking along the water through sheep farms better anyway so if you do it, you could just turn around and come back although you'd miss the view. A short walk from the house, the beach is lovely. I had only one complaint: beds are very firm! Was fine for my husband but a little spartan for me. I would definitely return though.
This will be my second time staying at White Strand Cottage and I doubt that it will be my last. The cottage itself is much bigger than the pictures suggest and it's located in the heart of Connemara - just next to White Strand beach and Renvyle House Hotel. The location is superb but what I loved was just how peaceful and secluded this cottage is, the perfect escape from the demands of work and city life . It's also only a stones throw from the local village where there are numerous pubs and resturants - and it's a few minutes drive from the Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey. The owners of the cottage were very helpful and it was clean and tidy but with lots of character; honestly you could not meet a nicer host family. Very happy to recommend them
I chose to rent this house with my family for a week to celebrate turning 40. I had such a lovely time there. The house is in a really stunning location, deep in the heart of the Renvyle Peninsula, and within a stone's throw of the beach. It has all modern conveniences, is spacious and appealing and is deisgned to be sympathetic to the local architecture. It has a very peaceful feel. Marie Louise was so helpful and we joined her as she hosted a foraging and ecology walk on the local beach. Not to be missed! I would return to the house in a heartbeat. Thanks again Marie Louise!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The listing was accurate and the property was clean and spacious. Marie Louise was very helpful; prior to our stay providing local information, family DVDs and games (including an Xbox for our son to use), a welcome food pack, offering us beach towels when the weather turned sunny and even coming out on the Saturday evening we arrived when we couldn't use the cooker. The nearby beach was lovely. Walking along the beach at dusk was food for the soul. Visits to the Connemara National Park, Inishboffin and Kylemore Abbey were enjoyed by all our party . We paid a few visits to Paddy Coynes where the food was modern and tasty and the staff were very friendly.
Description accurate, nice light and spacious rooms, very close to the beach, home cooking for a family is difficult due to only a few and very small pots and just one pan, no bigger bowls, The owner is very friendly and helpful even in cases of illness. We made some of the recommended tours and enjoyed these very much. We loved Diamond Hill, Kyllemore Abbey and Omey Island and the beach. The kids are still talking about these tours. We would definitely recommend White Strand Cottage
