Mondello Beach Palace
Having never been to Sicily, I wanted to make sure we picked a prime location near the beach and restaurants to minimize the driving and spend more time relaxing. If you like to swim, like I do, the beach couldn't be any closer and the water couldn't be any warmer. From the communication side, Silvio and Chiara were very easy to communicate with despite our language barrier. They were patient with our moving arrival time as well. Driving in Palermo is unique and challenging:) The apartment is their former family dwelling and is understated by the photographs in their posting. 14" ceilings, art, classic beautiful furniture, two amazing terraces and a spectacular Italian kitchen! There are also two nice bathrooms and a private entrance with parking in a place where parking is very difficult. Incredibly spacious by any other VRBO measurement. Loved it! Mondello has very good local restaurants including one that Chiara recommended called Sympaty (10 minute walk). The tiny squid were unreal! Gelato is everywhere and as good as it gets. The restaurant behind the house Bar Pasticceria Alba has amazing food for every meal as well. If you want to visit Palermo, and you should, the bus stops right outside, way easier than driving and transit is very reliable. We were there in the summer, so i can only speak to what happens in June, but you should be prepared for a very busy beach experience. The beach is very popular with families from Palermo. During the day it gets very crowded on the beach but the terrace that faces the beach is a better place to relax after a swim and enjoy the show. At night, the area is popular with teens. For the most part, they are just there to mingle and eat gelato. They are generally very polite and respectful, and not there to cause trouble. They do make noise, so if you a super light sleeper this may not be your best option. The apartment has big beautiful thick shuttered windows that also close up at night and air conditioners in each room that allow you to turn it off if you don't like all the action. The view and terrace were so spectacular we ended up taking far less day trips elsewhere than we had planned. One really nice day trip we took was an island called Ustica (high speed boat from Palermo 1.5 hours). The place is unbelievable. Thanks for the recommendation! We really enjoyed our stay and couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in Mondello. Grazie!
MILLION DOLLAR VIEW
An old world Italian villa with a spectacular view right across the street from Mondello Beach.
Beautiful apartment, amazing location
My husband and I, our two year old daughter and a few relatives (visiting at different times) stayed in Silvio's apartment for a month. The location couldn't be better - the beach is beautiful and literally across the road. There are a few small shops and restaurants within a 5 minute walk which is great. The apartment is amazing, with spectacular views and lots of space. It has everything you need and is kid friendly, but still retains a lot of character. Silvio and his family are great hosts and were very helpful and welcoming and quick to respond if we needed anything. The icecream shop across the road can get a little busy/noisy on weekends at night, but we found this was fine if we closed the bedroom windows. I highly recommend Silvio's apartment and would love to return in the future.
Elegant Beach Front Apartment.
Silvio and his family were very welcoming and attentive during our stay. We loved the apartment it was a real treat to stay in such a grand building which was beautifully kept and well equipped. The apartment was very comfortable and had a homely feel to it with some wonderful art displayed by the the famous artist and member of the family which designed a built the villa. Two impressive balconies on opposite ends of the bulding, the first which looks over the sea (just cross the road and you are on the beach!) and the other which had a beautiful view of the mountains behind. If like cooking then the kitchen is really very well equipped. A good bakery is located next door and a beach front cafe infront the property which does a great coffee. We would definately recommend the villa to all and hope to return again some day.
We enjoyed a week in spring and missed nothing. The two terraces are a jewel.
Excellent appartment - great stay
My family and I stayed 10 days in the appartment end of July. The welcoming by the owner family was very friendly and informative and uncomplicated. The car could be parked directly on the grounds of the villa. We were four (2 adults, two kids) in the apartment which is spacious and provided enough room for our family to also allow for some privacy. Of great positive surprise was the kitchen with everything you need - really everything. The furniture and decoration is a real treat. Living in a liberty style villa with original furniture and paintings at the wall from the owner and builder of the villa creates a very unique atmosphere, which you hardly find elsewhere. The short way to the beach is a real plus even though the public parts of the beach are rather not of much value - we recommend to go to Club Albaria (100m) which provides excellent water sport possibilities and sunbeds and umbrellas too. The good and bad at the same time is the location of the villa itself. The villa is located directly in front of the most visited icecream shop in Italy (-; There is traffic and noise up until early in the morning. So if you plan to go there be prepared for it. My family and I definitely would rent this appartment again, even with this noise, the villa, the appartment atmosphere and quality we regard more important than the noise. Thanks a lot to the owner family who made it very easy for us and who helped us with everything - we will return definitely.
Best regards, MS
Thank you! We will be happy to host you a second time in the future. As you say, noise is a problem, in high season, but the City has already decided to pedestrianize the whole area: when this decision will be implemented - I hope soon - the situation will certainly improve.
In summer the beach is a beach where you can rent (by the day or week) sunbeds and umbrellas. The shoreline is accessed instead through free gates, one of which is located right in front of the Villa. Those who prefer to swim in the area of rock can reach (5 minutes by bus +15 walk the nature reserve of Capo Gallo. You pay about one euro for free access to the coast: penetrating, increases the tranquility and beauty of the places. At the same nature reserve can be accessed (recommended, but from a certain point on, it just goes on foot - the flat and easy) from the nearby village of Sferracavallo (Barcarello locations). Sferracavallo is known for its many restaurants specializing in seafood. In addition to the many places to visit in the city of Palermo and the Basilica of Monreale, consider a drive to Segesta (40 minutes drive) for its beautiful greek temple and its ancient theater. Also notable is the Zingaro nature reserve, which occupies the coast from Castellammare del Golfo to San Vito Lo Capo. you can follow it on Foot (excellent equipped paths) or admire it from the sea, renting a boat in the harbor of Castellammare.
those who want to go sailing and wind surfing, can turn a few meters from the Villa Yacht Club "Albaria".
For tourist visits to the city of Palermo, given the chaotic traffic and the difficulty of finding parking, it is preferable to use public transport; the bus stop is 100 meters from the villa; downstairs there is a taxi stand. If you wish to visit one of the famous street markets, do not go to the Vucciria (now little used), and prefer to Porta Carini (a few meters from the courthouse), preferably to visit during the morning, avoiding the afternoon.
A few meters from the house you will find all the necessary shops, newsagent, bank, pharmacy, medical summer, post office.
