In an outstanding location with stunning panoramic views over the white Uig sands and mountains, Airebroc is a traditional Hebridean white house modernised as a luxury retreat, ideal for couples or families. Step onto the beach only 200 metres from your garden gate. This large croft house stands on the edge of one of the most famous and impressive Atlantic beaches in the Hebrides, in the hamlet of Crowlista at the road's end. A Tripadvisor review of the Uig Sands says: 'This was one of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen. The beach is something else, but all of the surrounding areas are fabulous as well - the cliffs, the water, mountains. Truly amazing. ' Home to oyster catchers, curlews, greenshanks, golden plover, divers and golden eagles, the beach is full of history, bordered by a manse, a ruined broch, a graveyard, a lodge and salmon stream, and the dunes where the famous Uig chessmen were found.

With several secluded white beaches less than 3 miles in each direction, the surrounding area is a paradise for those who want to escape the pressures of a busy life for a family holiday or romantic retreat. Enjoy the sunshine and panoramic views of the beach and hills from the comfort of the large sun room, and then relax around the open fire in the cosy wood panelled living room. There is also a study with a desk and piano and woodburning stove, and the house has wireless internet and a large screen TV so you do not have to leave entertainment behind.

The 3 upstairs bedrooms have their own private bathrooms, two ensuite, and there is a fourth bedroom downstairs with cloakroom next door. The house is spacious and has retained the traditional wood panelling throughout, Victorian wall sconces for candlelit evenings and an open fire, enabling you to experience the atmosphere of a genuine crofting home combined with all the luxuries of modern living. The kitchen fully equipped with a Britannia range cooker (gas hob, 2 electric ovens), microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, and dining table that seats 8 comfortably. The living room has Freeview TV and DVD/Bluray player, HiFi with Ipod dock, 3 sofas to seat 8.

In front of the house there is a terrace where the barbeque can be used, and two large flower beds, and a lawn, with two stone lintel seats and a bench overlooking the bay. From the lawn a grassy path leads down to front gate, from where it is only a 200m walk to the beach.

At the back of the house, the kitchen looks across to the meadows behind the house out on to the Atlantic, and to the byre which used to house the cattle and sheep kept on the croft, but which has now been modernised. There is a gravel drive, and plenty of parking space on the drive and next to the road. Behind the house, open land leads to 3 lochs and a dramatic coastline with cliffs, sea birds, a special cove where we usually see seals, the remains of an iron age settlement, and 'Norse' mills in the streams.

There is an excellent shop for groceries a mile away at Timsgarry, and there is a community centre which hosts ceilidh dances and dinners at which visitors are warmly welcomed. It also houses a local history museum and a cafe which provides homemade soups and home-baked cakes throughout the day. There are also three other restaurants within 3 miles.

This is a fabulous place for walking, enjoying several white beaches, swimming, fishing, bird-watching, sailing, boat trips, and kite surfing.

Why Helena Watson chose Western Isles

Both my husband and I have Scottish roots, which lead us to create a second home on the Isle of Lewis.

What makes this house unique

Airebroc is named after the piece of land it was built on. It was built in the 1930s by a local family who had lived in Crowlista for generations, and at first there was no road at the back, only at the front, and all shopping had to be carried up to the house. The house still has its wood-panelling on walls and ceiling in every room: we have extended it and added ensuite bathrooms, but we have kept the traditional look of a Hebridean 'white house'. It has magnificent views, and we built on a spacious sunroom at the front so that all generations could enjoy the scenery in good and bad weather, and it is always light and warm and beautifully quiet in that room. We have a traditional open fire for comfort in the living room. The house has been our second home for 20 years, and is equipped and furnished with personal affection and care.

Fantastic family home amidst magnificent scenery

We were, a family of 3 adults and to small children staying at Airebroc. The house is large enough for both togetherness and for seeking your own space. It is well equipped, hot water and heating system function well. It is a comfortable and tastefully decorated home you can relax ind.The sun room with a panorama view is a great advantage on rainy days

The surrounding scenery is magnificent, plenty of walks and exciting destinations for lovers of nature and wildlife.

The information about the house and surrounding district and destinations is very good. Some information on the local bus service would be a positive addition. Not everyone drives a car and I found the bus company very helpful.

The owners have been very helpful and i will definitely recommend Airebroc to friends. Most of all I hope to be able to return myself.

Great place for a vacation base at outer herbrides

The house:

Great place/location for a vacation base at outer herbrides.

The house itself has great flair and was very useful up to max. 6 persons (we were a party of 4 plus 1 child, that was perfect).

The kitchen was well equiped, but 1 larger pot would be helpful.

The sight from the additional room was great.

The fire place in the living room works well.

The bathes are absolut ok, ebenfalls die Schlafzimmer.

The cleanliness of the house was overall ok, but the whole house was not vacuumed at our arrival.

The location is good, in 1-2 hours all attractions in lewis and harris are reachable.

The Hebrides region

The Outer Hebrides is an area of outstanding beauty, and its landscape and history are captivating. This is one of the few areas in the UK where you can really feel you have escaped into a real wilderness, and its colours inspire artists and photographers and its wildlife is stunning. Watch seals in our local bay, or take a boat trip to spot whales and dolphins or visit the World Heritage Site of St Kilda, where people lived in isolation catching sea birds on the cliffs for food. Golden eagles inhabit our hills, and it is a bird-spotters paradise.

The Isle of Lewis abounds with ancient archaeological sites, wheelhouses and brochs of Pictish origin, and the mysterious Calanish stone circle. The Hebridean crofting life and its traditions have stayed alive into the present generation, and you can visit the Arnol blackhouse to experience the intimate and smoky atmosphere of life a century ago, and visit the Iron Age house at Bosta and the sites of Norse mills.

Uig

The Uig area is renowned for its beautiful white beaches, its charming offshore islands which can be visited by boat, and its lochs and mountains. Though enjoying a sense of remoteness, there is an excellent and well-stocked shop only 1.5 miles from the house, the Uig Community Shop, and they offer a home delivery service and also have a Post Office. There is a museum on local history and crofting life in the Erista Community Centre, which has a cafe serving delicious soups and cakes, and organises excellent ceilidhs (dinner, music and dancing) once or twice a season. Just across the sand there is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the beach , Auberge, providing excellent local cuisine cooked by a dedicated French chef, and there is a second good restaurant at Loch Chroistean in the old school house.
