Great place!

  • 4 of 5

Thanks to James Miller for his help with our booking of Sol Cottage. It is truly a well layed out cottage, and the screened in porch was a great place to eat, read and talk. The grounds are well kept, as the hurricane damage seemed minimal. The drive into Fish Bay with all of the spectacular views, enhanced our stay. Great place!!

St. John is still really hurting, especially Maho Bay and Cinnamon Bay, which we have enjoyed for the past 25 years. The restaurants and shops that are open are showing what Love City is all about. Go if you can. You will be welcome by all!

Very Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had such a nice time staying at Sol Cottage. We slept comfortably despite the heat thanks to the air conditioning. There was no internet or TV yet (I'm sure it will be back in the near future) but we watched a movie on our computer one night and otherwise just read, relaxed, and headed to the beach. Many restaurants have wifi, so when my husband had to do a little work on his computer, we just bought a drink and relaxed by the ocean at a restaurant and used their wifi. The cottage was perfectly sized. I was happy that there was a bathroom on the second floor as well as the first, so you didn't have to climb down the stairs in the middle of the night. We were also happy that there are chairs, towels, and coolers, as we didn't check bags. The owners were right next door in their own house if you needed them, but they were very respectful of our privacy and communicated with us via email during the trip (rather than popping by) which I really appreciated. Overall we had a great time and would highly recommend this cottage and visiting St. John.

Cute and quaint cottage

  • 5 of 5

Sol Cottage is nestled inside The Fish Bay/Reef Bay quarter of St John. This quaint cottage is warm and inviting. Upon arrival the gift basket of snacks and beverages is a great welcome after a long travel day. The hosts are located on site and are knowledgeable about the island and respectful of your privacy. It is the perfect location for a quick hike to go the Reef/Parrott Bay beaches and the waterfall. For now there is no internet so don’t plan on watching tv or really using your phone! The crews are busy working at getting service back up and running but it’s going to take time.

Peaceful,Cozy Cottage. Perfect for two

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful, peaceful cottage. We were pleased to find such a well maintained, clean, and quiet place for our week in St John. The air conditioned bedroom is perfect for those warm nights. The cottage is just right for two. We had breakfast each morning on the porch, the kitchen/living room were perfect for all our cooking and relaxing needs. The outdoor shower was refreshing after those long days at the beach and in the water.

James had some food for us in the fridge when we arrived that hit the spot after a long day of travel and was there whenever we had questions. He's done a remarkable job with this property. There are a few less trees on the property after the hurricane but its very clean and still very private. And its nice to see the greenery on the property is recovering quickly. We can wait to come back.

The island has recovered quickly too, its ready for business. The beaches were just as beautiful as we remembered them and much less crowded. The National Park service did a wonderful job getting the beaches safe for everyone and is working daily to clear the debris from the hurricane in the National Park. .The people of St John have done a remarkable job getting the island back together and need your support.

Wonderul cottage and host

  • 5 of 5

The last review summed it up very well. This is a very clean, well appointed cottage that is perfect for a visit to St John. The stair issue is real if you have any physical limitations. Beyond that, just perfect. Great host.

5 Star accommodations post hurricanes!

  • 5 of 5

We welcomed 2018 with a visit to St John and a week’s stay at Sol Cottage. We had booked our stay before the hurricanes and we were happy to hear the cottage did not sustain any damage. As soon as power was restored we were welcomed.

We found the cottage just as described with fresh paint, super clean, grounds manicured and treats in the fridge! The kitchen area was more than sufficient for us, well equipped with small appliances, dishes, etc. We especially appreciated the water filter. The living area was comfortably furnished. The cable/internet/cell coverage not restored yet so we enjoyed catching up on some reading, playing cards and the sounds of the tree frogs in the evenings. Both bathrooms were very clean with great quality towels! The open air shower was refreshing. It was clean and plenty of hot water. It was also nice having the half bath upstairs. The loft bedroom was very nice and comfortable with the unit air conditioner. Also plenty of outlets to charge all our electronics. The stairs are exactly as pictured so know your limitations.

We have visited the island many times over the past twenty years. It is for us, as for many, our favorite place- we come by ourselves, bring family, stay all over...seeing the devastation from the storms was hard. The amount of cleaning and clearing debris from homes, roads, beaches, etc that has been done in just the past four months is a testament to the incredible people there. Keep in mind there’s still a ways to go-

We did a lot of beach hopping. If you look out over the water, beautiful as ever- most all the shore shade and palms are gone, so sunscreen up or bring umbrellas. We took a fun 1/2 day boat ride with Jason from Island Roots around Hurricane Hole and planted a palm seedling on Hansen beach! Snorkeling was best out at Pelican Rock (Coral Bay) We had great burgers at Skinny Legs, morning breakfast sandwiches and dollar muffins at Sam and Jack’s deli (free WiFi available), delicious pizza from Cafe Roma, and great meals at Ocean Grill and Banana Deck (their dessert is a must!) We always rent and buy shirts from Beach Bum right off the ferry dock. The shops at Mongoose were open and all welcomed and appreciated our business! Worshipped with Freshwater Church on Hawksnest on Sunday! Definitely recommend!

Go visit! Stay at Sol Cottage, or one of the other available properties managed by Marc. Support the businesses, enjoy the people and the new beauty of the island.
