Fantastic apartment, really enjoyed the location. The hospitality was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again.
I doesn't get any better than this!
We have visited Riquewihr many times and stayed in six apartments offered by Jean-Paul and Martine Krebs in the Gîtes Les Remparts de Riquewihr. All are fantastic, but the Alsatian Hart is our absolute favorite. The interior of the Renaissance house and apartment is decorated in artistic taste and in the Alsatian style - exposed timber beams, painted cupboards and armoires and hardwood floors. The cozy sitting room, a bathroom with a jacuzzi and beds much bigger and more comfortable than at home make this a very elegant and comfortable place to stay. Top this off with great views of the vineyards and a wonderful collection of red tile rooftops that can be viewed from two balconies. Perfect for the leisurely breakfast, dinner or cocktail hour. John-Paul, Martine and their Valerie, their wonderful house manager make our stay special every time. When you come to Riquewhir, don’t pass up the opportunity to stay here.
Thank you Chris and Suzan for being such valuable and faithful guests for so long already. It is always a pleasure to have you with us. Earlier this year (2018) our region of Colmar and Riquewihr, Alsace was voted #3 Best Destination in Europe.
Alsace is unquestionably spectacularly beautiful. A very special combination of history, culture, scenery, and especially food and wine makes it one of the most delightful places to visit in all of Europe. Riquewihr is a very practical base to visit all Alsace, the Vosges mountains and even nearby Germany and Switzerland.
But you know this already and were able to experience it.
Be welcome back anytime. Martine and Jean-Paul
What an amazing spot. Two couples - two master suites. We were so comfortable & it felt like home while we enjoyed the lovely local Christmas markets. We would stay again, no question!
Four fantastic nights at Alsatian Hart
This place in Riquewihr was everything it was advertised as. The home was very clean, well equipped, and ideally located to enjoy all of he attractions of the Alsace region. We would highly recomment this place to anyone who is looking to enjoy visiting the quaint towns, the many wineries, and the great food of the Alsace region.
Thank you Pat, you got it all in your 3 sentences: this is exactly what we wanted to do when we reconstructed this old medieval winery facing the vineyards and sitting on top of the ramparts. Thank you for staying with us and be welcome anytime!
An apartment that matches the charm of Riquewihr
We enjoyed our stay and were pleased that we chose to stay here. The rooms had all of the charm of a centuries old home, but with modern amenities. The building has been recently renovated and appeared to be professionally decorated. Original artwork adorned the walls. The bathrooms were clean and beautifully updated. The kitchen included new appliances and was well stocked. There are new windows throughout with views of the town and countryside in all four directions. We would recommend the Alsatian Hart to everyone.
Thank you so much for staying with us at Les Remparts de Riquewihr. The Alsatian Hart apartment is located in an old winery built in 1580 on top of the defence wall faving the most famous vineyard in the area. Although the house was in a very bad shape when we purchased it, we were seduced by the location: very near to the center of the village but slightly off (80 meters) to be quiet and peaceful; fantastic views instead of having a neighbour too close by; easy access by car. We did our best to renovate the house, including all modern amenities while keeping it historical flair.
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. Welcome back anytime!
The best place to stay in Riquewihr!!
This is our 5th visit to Riquewhir and stay in the fabulous Gîtes Les Ramparts de Riquewihr, the luxurious vacation rental apartments of Jean-Paul and Martine Krebs. Each apartment is highly unique, charming and decorated in traditional Alsatian style. They also have every amenity that could ever be desired – large comfy beds and comforters, fully appointed kitchens, inviting living rooms and, in many, balconies with fantastic views of red-tiled rooftops, church steeples and vineyards. Each Apartment is in an historic building for which the Krebs and local workers, who lovingly restored them, have received multiple national historic preservation awards. Outside the windows of several apartments are views of beautiful vineyards.
The apartments are located in Riquewihr, a walled town, which has been an historic wine trading hub since the 16th century. It is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The town is conveniently located 45 minutes by car or taxi from Strasburg and 20 minutes from Colmar. Riquewihr’s cobbled streets, historic timbered buildings and watchtower are beautiful, both during the day and at night under the warm glow of antique lights. The town is surrounded by vineyards and walking paths which beg to be visited. A tramp through the vines is fantastic whether on spring days, summer evenings at twilight, at the time of fall colors or in winter during the Christmas market with a mug of hot mulled wine in tow.
We have stayed in a number of Jean-Paul and Martine’s properties – the Fox and Grapes, Alsatian Hart, Sentinel, Klevner, Little Bear, Mountain Hiker – and fully enjoyed each of them. The apartments and wonderful hospitality and company of the Krebs and their charming house manager, Valerie, have made Riquewihr one of our favorite places in the world and one that we return to again and again.
Chris and Susan - Boulder, Colorado USA
P.S. Riquewihr has fabulous restaurants – Le Sarment d’Or, La Grappe d’Or, Au Trotthus, L’Originel and St. Alexis, which is just out of town – and great wineries, especially Dopff, which has crémant (sparkling wine) to die for!
Thank you Chris and Susan to be such faithful guests and for loving the historical places we have tried to turn into comfortable holiday apartments. Be welcome back anytime!
Riquewihr, perhaps the most romantic medieval city in Alsace, is hidden among the vineyards and mountains of the Vosges.
Alsace and the small medieval town of Riquewihr in the heart of the vineyard are undoubtedly a magnificent destination. Alsace offers an exceptional combination of history, culture and landscapes. Famous gastronomy and delicious wine make it one of the most interesting regions to visit in Europe.
A few years ago, the famous Lonely Planet travel guides elected Alsace among the 10 most original destinations in the world to visit this year! For Lonely Planet, Alsace is one of the most beautiful and original regions of France which, thanks to its wine, its gastronomy and its other attractions and tourist facilities are really worth the trip.
Riquewihr is one of the jewels of the crown and today still has the face that was his almost 500 years ago. More than 30 restaurants are within walking distance in the village, from the traditional family restaurant to the Michelin star-rated establishment.
Riquewihr is also a convenient place to stay and discover all Alsace, but also nearby Germany and even Switzerland.
