About this property

Grey Duck Cabin (Manitou River)

We have removed our booking from VRBO due to them not refunding our guests the fees they were withholding during COVID-19 cancellations. Please check out our website WWW.GREYDUCKCABIN.COM for booking inquiries and more information. Thanks!

Grey Duck Cabin is a newly built (May 19) off grid rental property. Sleeping up to four adults and pet friendly the cabin sits on 40 acres surrounded by state land, state park and the Manitou River. You will have full seclusion and privacy, with your only neighbors being the surrounding wildlife that you will encounter. If you want to venture out from the property we are a short drive to multiple restaurants, bars, groceries, state parks and the North Shore. Instagram or Face book @GreyDuckCabin

The Cabin:
Grey Duck Cabin sits on forty private acres deep in the Finland State Forest. With it's open floor plan and North facing floor to ceiling windows you get the view of the forest during the day and the stars at night. The cabin accommodates up to six people with two cozy bedrooms, one king bed, two twin beds, one hideaway queen bed in the living room, a cedar screen porch and one bathroom with a custom tiled rain shower. Grey Duck is off the grid and ran by solar energy. With being off grid we still offer most all modern amenities including WiFi, in floor heating, gas fire place, oven range, and refrigerator.

The Property:
The property is surrounded on all four sides by George Crosby Manitou State Park, State Land, the Manitou River, and the State Snowmobile Trail. There is plenty to explore on the property, for a short peaceful hike you can take a walk in the woods down the private hiking trail to the Manitou River. The Manitou is a known fishing river especially for Brook and Rainbow Trout so don't forget your to bring your fishing poles. On the other side of the property you have the C.J. Ramstad trail that runs all the way from Duluth up to Grand Marais, in the winter months it's know for its snowmobiling but in the summer months is beautiful for wide open hiking or horseback riding.

*ATTN For Winter renters we highly recommend 4 wheel drive. We get a lot of snow up there and in order to get around it may be necessary to have a 4 wheel drive car.

Very clean.
Renting was super easy. Nice place, with a walking trail to the water. We all enjoyed it.

Magical Off Grid Getaway
This modern, solar cabin is a hidden gem. We liked the location for spending days hiking to waterfalls and then coming back to a campfire, fridge full of food and hot shower. Our girls are 17, 14 and 5 and had a great time here. The efforts the owners made in making a private trail down to the river did not disappoint! I appreciate the owners welcoming pets at no extra charge. We would love to come back as I’m sure each season in this home is incredible!

Amazing!
We loved every aspect of this remote and beautiful cabin. Spacious, clean, great touches throughout, and hard to beat the location. Can't wait to come back again next year!

It's Awesome!
We absolutely LOVED this cabin! Very well designed and thought out, and had everything you would need for a restful, quiet, peaceful retreat in the North Woods. It's not for those who can't get along without their cell phone connection, but getting "unconnected" for a few days is a good thing sometimes, and having internet access was a nice surprise. The cabin is close to many of the wonderful Minnesota State Parks, and we really enjoyed the multiple hiking trails that the area has to offer. Even the private trail down to the river is nice...a secret wonderland where birds and small creatures call home. (The birding was fabulous!) My only suggestion: a small microwave would be nice...but not necessary, and more than one dish towel! We would most definitely return and stay longer in this cabin if/when we come back to this area in Minnesota.
