Would you like to experience the famous Osa Peninsula, from a luxurious 1875 sq ft Villa?
About the Villa: The Villa has high wood ceilings with ceiling fans, air conditioning in the two master bedrooms, and a large open semi-circular living area. Off of the semi-circle are the entrances to the bedrooms and one full bathroom. Opposite the bedrooms and across from the main seating area are four large sliding glass doors that lead outside to the gorgeous tropical garden. Beautiful, colorful plants surround a pool and lounge area with views of lush tropical vegetation in the distance . The pool has a 'BaduJet Swimjet Treadmill' which creates a current so that you can swim 'in-place' for exercise, water-play, or massage. Also there is a basketball hoop for use with the pool.
The 'conveniences of the Villa': The kitchen has modern appliances which include a refrigerator/freezer, new microwave, new stove, blender, toaster, new garbage disposal, and new dishwasher. The plentiful exotic wood cabinets come completely appointed with place settings and cookware. A complete laundry room with washer and dryer is on-site. The home also has a new 46' LED Samsung HD television with surround sound, additional flat screen TV in one of the master bedrooms, Satellite TV with 40+ international stations, and a DVD player. Computer, all-in-one printer/scanner, and wireless internet are also available. Two new TREK 3700 mountain bikes complete with racks, baggage containers, and helmets, are available for use by the renters as is a bike rack for the car.
The open, high wood ceiling Villa, with modern amenities/furnishings and gorgeous views, lies in a gated 'jungle neighborhood' on the hillside of the stunning Ojochal valley. Engage in the true Costa Rica experience, the comfort of quiet neighbors, and maintained roads. Enjoy the howler monkeys in the surrounding mountains, or bird-watch from the Villa or on your walks to rivers and streams.
Ojochal is fifteen minutes by car from the Villa and offers a world class restaurant, authentic French bakery, well-stocked grocery store, and a bar/restaurant frequented by visitors and locals alike. It is halfway from Dominical and the local Palmar Sur airport.
Between Ojochal and Dominical are at least 6 amazing beaches, with caves, arches, surfing. The larger town of Uvita is 15 minutes from Ojochal and offers two large continental-type super-markets, three banks with ATM machines, hardware stores, gift shops, a bus stop on the inter-city line, excellent medical and dental care, a visitor's center, and several bar/restaurants.
Or just relax by the Villa pool and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature all around! In the evening enjoy the calm and temperate weather of the outdoors, or the modern 'pleasures' that come with the Villa.
I grew up in an international family. My first trip to Europe was at the age of 12. At 16 I spent three months traveling by myself, and with other Europeans I met along the way, through most of Western and Eastern Europe (before the fall of the Berlin Wall). I lived and studied in France and Spain and am fluent in both languages.
In addition to my international interests, I play the piano and the guitar. I enjoy the ballet as well as the symphony, and currently sing in an auditioned 100 person semi-professional choir that performs in my home's (Eugene, OR) main concert hall.
In addition to the above, my educational interests have always been in science and mathematics. I have studied at Dartmouth College; and received B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. degrees in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. I have been a regular faculty member (professorial rank) at the University of Utah and Oregon State University.
A passion of mine has been fine woodworking. My work has been displayed at some of the finest galleries on the west coast and can be seen at www.finefurnituredesigns.net.
I have three wonderful children (pictured above with me) and a step-grandchild on the way.

I came to Costa Rica for my first visit relatively late in my life. During that trip, I found what is now 'Villa Tranquila.' I fell in love with both the property, people, and country. A truly unique, unspoiled, tropical paradise. A place to 'get away from it all,' return to a slower pace of life, and a greater proximity to nature and all that it has to offer
I try and treat my clients as honored guests in my own home, and offer them if they are coming for the first time a 'once in a lifetime' experience. Their enjoyment is my own. Knowing that they can be awakened by the howler monkeys or a cacophony of birds, watching the sun set over an unspoiled tropical and ocean vista, enjoying the temperate year round climate, swimming in the warm, clear ocean at the close unspoiled, unpopulated beaches, lounging by the pool at the Villa, watching any one of the many movies or satellite TV stations with family and friends on the 46' LED HDTV with surround sound at night, or just relaxing in the luscious gardens of the Villa at the end of the day. Villa Tranquila is not to be missed.
We were fortunate enough to stay at Villa Tranquila in Mid-April. The house is located in a secure, gated community. It is beautiful, well planned, very clean and equipped with all the modern conveniences. The grounds are truly stunning, with too many varieties of exotic plants to name. We awoke to the birds singing up the sun each morning and enjoyed sipping coffee poolside. The mountain in back is mesmerizing. The surrounding jungle is home to a troop of howler monkeys that announce their presence in the mornings and evenings. Toucans and macaws fly overhead, while several varieties of hummingbirds visit the abundant flowers. There are many things to do in the area for those visitors who crave adventure and eco-tourism. Don't miss snorkeling Cano Island and hiking the Corcovado. There are also river trips, horseback rides and mangrove tours. We visited at least five beaches, with Playa Pinuela and Playa Ventanas being the favorites. Ojochal is more of a community than a town, with many restaurants tucked away. Definitely stop at the sodas for the traditional meal and a pina naturales. We left with regret and will certainly be back. Thank you, Alan and Terry, for a memorable stay.
We are a family of 4 from UK and stayed for 10 days - with two children 19 and 16. The property was ideal for us, very secluded in a gated community in a lovely setting. The villa was very spacious with a large living area and bedrooms were ideal. The villa was incredibly clean and well stocked with towels etc and the kitchen was well equipped to cook regularly if you wanted to. We went out a bit as Ojochal has some great places to eat. The outside area was lovely with a small pool but it was ok for us, we did go in the sea a lot though! Nice to sit outside and listen to the wildlife, an amazing experience. Playa Ventanas was our favourite beach nearby but there are many others and brilliant waterfalls, even the small one in Ojochal. Alan couldn't have been more helpful in the run up to the booking, very friendly, efficient and great at communication, so many thanks to him. He was always willing to give us advice and help make the holiday the best possible. You will need a 4x4 car as the journey up to the villa is quite long and bumpy. The area is so incredibly beautiful we were sad to leave and I would heartily recommend both this villa and the area and people to anybody who wants a first taste of life in Costa Rica. One last thing, we went in the Green season (or wet season) - the best time we think. Beaches are quiet, cafes and restaurants are mostly still open, very few tourists and it the greenery is stunning at this time. Plus water in the waterfalls! Don't worry about the rain, it comes and goes and you still get plenty of sun in the morning and sometimes it doesn't rain at all. You can still go in the sea as its still 28-20 degrees!
We traveled down the coast from San Jose after a restful night with Alegria BnB.
After shopping at the well stocked grocery store in Ojochal on the main road to Villa Tranquila, we were welcomed to the best lodging for a couple and 3 single women. We had a delicious home cooked meal and enjoyed the company of the caretaker and his family. It seemed like home after we awoke at 5am, enjoyed sunrise, bird song and had leisurely breakfast on the patio and started planning our next 6 days in paradise. Long walks around the roads brought the delights of tropical flowers, birds, monkeys and iguanas. Happy in Costa Rica. It was easy to get to shopping, the ocean and a boat trip up the river from Sierpe. Dips in the pool every afternoon and group meals helped 5 friends become better friends.
Thanks for a wonderful first trip to Costa Rica.
I'd recommend to anyone looking for a good place to rest and also have easy access to many Costa Rica memorable sites. Comfortable to either cook at home or have amazingly good food from a variety of fine restaurants within 10 miles. Good walking, great birding, quiet (yearning for luscious monkey calling), comfortable and well furnished.
Great vacation. The villa is perfect, clean and well-maintened. Would recommended this property. 4x4 is a must. Owner and manager provide good customer service.
Yo repito!
This property was GORGEOUS! The photos do not do it justice! It was certainly a 5-star property with very comfortable beds, beautiful, spacious bathrooms, a well-stocked kitchen and lovely views. The pool was refreshing and private, and we all loved the current that meant you could have a real work-out if you wanted, or turn it off and just float in the cool water and watch the birds. The property does not have any wine glasses or a corkscrew, so if you would like a glass of wine with dinner, bring your own. We did not use the air conditioner at all as it cools down pleasantly at night. We would love to come back to stay at this property again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The Villa is situated in a gated community nestled in the mountain, with the feel of 'away from it all' and all the modern conveniences of a 'luxury' resort
The Villa is a 15-20 minute drive from Ojochal on compacted dirt/gravel and graded roads. Ojochal is 30 min south of Dominical, and is known for its impressive views, French influence, world-class international cuisine, and small village lifestyle. From the Villa, it's about 3 miles to the nearest beach, Playa Ventana, with uninhabited pristine white sands, a protected ocean swimming 'cove', and the temperate waters of the Pacific.Nearby are Marino Ballena National Park with miles of sand beach and swimming, Cano Island Reserve for skin diving and snorkeling, Dominical surf events, close to the Corcovado National Park (the largest and most diverse eco-system in the world), several waterfalls, surf/dive schools, hiking, deep sea fishing, tilapia fishing, diving, horseback riding, ATV rentals, and a zip-line tour!
A 4x4 is recommended, necessary some times during the year.
