York Beach House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Lilac Haven is an early American, post and beam farmhouse that dates back to 1750. Our location is in the heart of all the excitement of the beach area, yet remains private and secluded as it is nestled back from the main road and tucked in among glorious flower gardens.

While relaxing on the private porch having early morning coffee, you can listen to the birds singing in the trees and enjoy the gorgeous butterflies as they meander throughout the garden. The serenity and peacefulness of the area allows you to plan your day for a trip to the beach (about a 3 minute walk), hiking, golfing, antiquing, or shopping at nearby outlet malls.

There are three bedrooms. On the first floor is the Master Bedroom/bathroom and a sleep sofa in the living room. The second floor has two bedrooms - 2 twin beds in one room and 2 double beds in the other bedroom, and a full bathroom. The porch is equipped with a gas grill and a large table with seating for 6.

While visiting York explore the quaint coastal villages, antique shops, restaurants & pubs. Enjoy the luxurious tree lined park beginning the York Harbor Cliff walk or, a stroll in the woods leading to the Wiggley Bridge, the ending at the York River to admire a multitude of boats that include sailboats, cruisers, motorboats and lobster boats.

About Darryl Van Tassell

In 1996, our beloved mother and grandmother retired from her job as a public school teacher in Boston and moved to York Beach. When she bought this house, it had been neglected for years and was in a very sad state. It was definitely a labor of love, but after months and months of hard work, we helped her to turn it back into the wonderful, charming home it is today. Unfortunately, we lost Sarah in January 2015, but we as a family have taken on the property and are devoted to making sure it is kept up to her fabulous standards!

Why Darryl Van Tassell chose Southern Coast of Maine

Taking old, run down homes and bringing them back to life is a passion that runs in the family. Many people thought Sarah was crazy for buying this house in its dilapidated state, but we saw the potential, and after months and months of hard work, the house was restored to its natural beauty. Sarah loved to garden and took great pride in her beautiful landscaping. The whole family gets involved in caring for the big yard and gardens, making sure it is ready for our guests to enjoy.

What makes this house unique

This is a unique house with lots of historic charm, but updated amenities. It has a private porch overlooking a beautiful garden- perfect for a barbecue! At night, the lights of the amusement park light up next door and you can watch the ferris wheel spin. The location can't be beat as the shops, restaurants, arcade, and beach are just steps away. Being just a 3-5 minute walk to Short Sands Beach is truly a luxury when considering the cost and limited availability of parking.

Best of both worlds! LOCATION LOCATION

  • 5 of 5

It is rare to find a vacation spot that offers the opportunity to find BOTH quiet relaxation and boardwalk style entertainment without having to get in a car! The outside has a gorgeous green lawn and gardens while restaurants, music and cocktails are just steps away. I agree with other reviewers about how clean the place is and proximity to beach - great not to think about parking (place has lots of spaces available tho!) Bedrooms are really good size, too...plenty of room for suitcases etc. Rt 1 shopping is very close by- be sure to check out antique shops along that road.

Perfect!

Lilac Haven is a gem! It is so close to the beach and shops and restaurants, yet tucked away amongst a lovely peaceful garden. A great spot to really experince York Beach and surrounding areas. The house is cozy and quaint, and immaculate! I miss sitting on that amazing porch, so--we will be back this summer!

Just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I have stayed at Lilac Haven for the past few summers and I cannot say enough nice things about it. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach, shops, restaurants, great little breakfast places. All rooms are air-conditioned, which you don't always find. The yard is awesome for relaxing and a new deck has been added. When you visit, it feels like home.

Nice place....

Overall, GREAT place and location.

Few complaints....COMMUNICATION (email, text, phone calls) were horrible.

Wifi was HORRIBLE. Wasn't working when we checked in and repaired days later. Not a solid signal and could only access internet sitting on the porch. It really needs some sort of booster signal to access wifi in the living room or bedrooms.

Other than that the house was VERY clean and we had a wonderful time in York Beach for our 1 week stay.

FYI, the stairs are VERY steep going up to 2nd floor bedroom and my 77 year old parents were UNABLE to use them.

Clean, spacious rental, excellent vacation location

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed at Lilac Haven for a week over the summer and had a fantastic time. The house was really clean and the location was surprisingly quiet given that it is so close to the Short Sands area. The best part was that we could walk to the beach in no time. I don't think we'd be able to find a parking space closer to the beach if we drove there. We also appreciated that we had a grill and full kitchen so we could cook out and not have to spend too much $$ out at restaurants every night. York is a beautiful place and the Kittery outlets are close by so we were also able to do a little shopping. Would recommend to anyone!

We loved it here! Beautiful house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had such a wonderful stay at Lilac Haven. We were able to walk to Short Sands beach in under 5 minutes and my kids loved the fact that we were next door to an amusement park! We arrived to find that they left us a wonderful gift basket with snacks and goodies and information about all the things to do in and around York. The house was fresh and clean and the garden outside was beautiful. You can tell they take pride in their home. We will definitely be back for another stay soon!
