Why Pam chose Kohala Coast

We fell in love with the Big Island on our first visit in 1970's and have been returning with our children as frequently as possible. Purchasing a villa in the new Hali'i Kai resort five years ago was a dream come true for our family. We sincerely hope that you enjoy the island of Hawaii as much as we do. Our family is delighted to share the Aloha spirit with you.

What makes this condo unique

We have 'ohana' family on the Kohala coast and have witnessed the development of Waikoloa Village and the Beach Resort areas over the years (since 1978). We are impressed with Hali'i Kai and purchased our condo five years ago. The layout and size of our end unit villa, in addition to the pool located at ocean's edge, convinced us to buy. A private restaurant/bar at the pool is an added plus. Sipping a tropical beverage at sunset while wiggling my toes in the sand bottom spa is my idea of paradise!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We've been coming to the islands for over 30 yrs. We loved the condo. Beautifully furnished -- great 'peek a boo' views of the ocean & LOVE the pool area. The staff at the pool are awesome.

Highly recommend 'The Tropics' for the happy hour - 'Lava Lava' for a nice dinner & Hapuna Beach for a fun day in the sun. The Fairwinds is a great day for snorkeling & (if lucky) seeing spinner dolphins.

Overall excellent condo! Thank you - we'll be back!"

honeymooners return

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in condo #3D on our honeymoon in 2013 and have returned. When we walked in the front door, we immediately noticed the new wood flooring in the living area. This was especially nice since we brought our 11 month old baby with us and his spills could be easily wiped. On the lanai, everything has been replaced: the table and chairs set and the BBQ grill. Since the Weber grill is the same model that we have back home, my husband decided to grill most of our meals. Our baby enjoyed the kiddy section of the Ocean Club pool, especially the squirting turtle. We purchased a baby float that had a shade because there is not much cover from the sun (our little guy doesn't like hats).

Thanks again, Pam, for sharing your home with us. We hope to return again sometime.

Nice condo, beautiful view and loved privacy on lanai. However, like other reviewers we also wondered why not better and more seating on lanai.

Other concerns we feel you should know about: no overhead lighting in extra bedroom, only one beach towel, TV was on when we arrived, only one bar soap and shampoo, and no extra toilet paper. So we went and bought these items. We also only had 3 wash cloths for a 10-day stay and no clarity on if there would be light cleaning and new linens. After 5 days, we received new linens, and an over abundance of toiletries and toilet paper. Not sure why those items weren't available from the start. Then we had cleaning staff come, while we were away, 2 other times as well as someone come to check the smoke alarms. Not too happy that this many people in and out with all of our belongings.

We could see that a quick surface cleaning must occur between visitors, but a deep cleaning has not been done.

Owner's Response: Aloha Kim, Thank you for your review. We always appreciate guest comments and suggestions. We believe that we have addressed the issues that you mentioned. For your information, a new and larger dining table for the lanai was shipped and received shortly after your stay. Also, there are four chairs as well as two ottomans for our two-bedroom condo's lanai. In addition, the floor lamp in the second bedroom was replugged into the dedicated outlet for the wall switch (it was inadvertently plugged into an incorrect outlet before) and a nightlight was also placed in the room. The other matters you pointed out were housekeeping related, so we had a discussion with the management personnel at their office located by the front gate. The supervisor and staff are recent hires and are still adjusting. A heavy cleaning of our condo was just completed. Guests can always request additional supplies of linens and toiletries from the front office. As our representatives, the front office staff are there to accommodate our guests' concerns. Sorry the office failed to coordinate the smoke detector test and mid-week tidy clean with your schedule. In our effort to continually improve our little piece of paradise at Hali'i Kai, we thank you again for your comments. Mahalo, Pam owner condo #3D

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

A wonderful location and convenient to so much in the Waikoloa resort area as well as just about anything you could dream of doing on this beautiful island. The clubhouse and pool are lovely and the staff is very friendly. They offer some reasonably priced food (for Hawaii) and so, late in the afternoon, a lot of families understandably came to the pool to eat. A little hectic and noisy at those times, but a nice facility overall. The condo itself is very pretty and the end unit offers some lovely views even if it is not ocean front. Air conditioning, water pressure, etc., were all fine and there were some nice appliances there. My husband and I enjoyed the lanai and the grill. Like other reviewers, we felt that the lanai furniture is in need of replacing. It consists of a small table, which was wobbling, and two chairs...sort of tough if there are more than two of you and even tough to put everything we needed on the table for just the both of us. Something a little more substantial would definitely add a great deal to the unit, as people come to Hawaii to spend the majority of their time enjoying the outdoors. Also, we noted that the beach chairs that were available seemed to be on their last legs and were starting to fray. We have stayed in this area before in other units and the condo certainly lived up to our expectations. One note for people who want to make more than a sandwich there....there are no spices whatsoever...I am not sure if this is a rule there, that they can't be left, but bring your own from home if you can...everything is so expensive to purchase. Overall, a beautiful island and a great time. As far as working with the owner, she was always responsive and everything was as she represented when we checked in. Another bonus which we learned about when we got there was a maid service....there is cleaning every few days and the condo is vacuumed, and sheets and towels are replaced....I washed them anyway as I was doing wash, but it was nice to have the place "spiffed up" every few days.

Owner's Response: Aloha Karen, Thank you for your review. I always look forward to hearing from our guests concerning things they enjoyed about their stay and suggestions for future. Beach equipment is heavily used, so I appreciate your calling the Tommy Bahama beach chairs to my attention. They will be replaced. As for the spices and condiments, it is the policy of the onsite management to remove such items after each guest. Perhaps housekeeping stored the teak folding chairs that were also on the lanai in one of the closets. Hali'i Kai is a beautiful place and we are happy to share our little piece of paradise with you. Lots of fun things in the area

  • 5 of 5

Nice condo, nicely appointed. We enjoyed Mai tais at the clubhouse. Good walking access to oceanfront walking trails and the Dolphins at the Hilton. We were two couples travelling together, so it was appreciated that the second bedroom and bathroom were also a very decent size. Only negative - the deck furniture needs replacing. We eat all meals on the lanai, and the table is too small. The chairs were not good for relaxing around a great meal. For two people though, it's fine.

Owner's Response: Aloha Peter, we, likewise, enjoy the Mai Tai's at the private Ocean Club, too. Sunsets there are amazing. Hope you experienced whale sightings. Winter is prime season for them. Glad to hear that you found our condo a comfortable size for your party of four. The floor plan accommodates two couples with privacy, I have found. Thank you for your suggestion of a larger dining set for the lanai. Since we just this week replaced the BBQ grill with a new Weber and installed an outdoor ceiling fan on the lanai, we will keep your idea in mind for the future. Mahalo, Pam Owner condo #3D

Amazing Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for eight days and had a fabulous time! The owner Pam was so responsive to all my questions. The condo went beyond our expectations. There is a closet full of beach chairs, boogie boards, sand toys, board games, and more! Our last trip to Oahu we had to buy a boogie board and sand toys so this was a huge plus for us. The kitchen is well equipped for all of your needs. I did bring some Ziplock bags from the mainland for lunches and snacks on the beach. It was so nice to have two bedrooms with the living room and kitchen between as well as a full washer and dryer. We enjoyed many breakfasts on the balcony and enjoyed the view. The condo is in a gated community and was super safe. We went to the pool and enjoyed drinks and food at the Ocean Club while enjoying the beautiful sunset. It was great to have free wi-fi and air conditioning which we definitely used. I have already recommended this condo to all of our friends. A++++++! Thanks Pam!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Patricia, You have made me so very happy to hear that your vacation was wonderful. We do try to keep the condo well stocked with essentials, including equipment for beach activities. Also, email/phone "conversations" with guests before and after their stay is never a bother to us. We respond to all questions and comments. We love Hawaii island and wish to spread the spirit of aloha. Pam

Super!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Hali'i Kai and the condo was just perfect for our family of four (2 adults, 2 boys ages 8 and 10). The condo was luxurious, spacious, well-furnished and clean. The view was just great...right out the window of the living room you see the golf course but on the lanai you can see Mauna Loa to your left and the ocean to your right. My boys said the activity closet was a "Dream come true!". The walk to the pool was fine and there were always spaces to park when we needed. We enjoyed the food and drinks at the Oceans Club restaurant and the staff were friendly. I was worried about how my boys would be treated at the pool after reading some of the reviews but there were lots of kids swimming at the same time so there were no issues. We would love to stay here again!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our condo. I am delighted to hear that your boys think my activity closet is a "Dream come true." When I add supplies to our closet, I try to anticipate items that children (and adults) would enjoy using during their vacation stay. This brings back pleasant memories of my own family's trips with young children. Happy to share the "aloha spirit" with your family and look forward to your return. Pam
