A great cabin for families

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of five and the cabin was perfect for us. We had a 17 year old and a 12 year old that enjoyed the pool table and the loft area. The cabin was clean and it had everything we needed for our stay. Jake's Hideaway was tastefully decorated and I thought the deer mural on of the bedroom walls was a nice touch.

The frequent visits from the deer were a lot of fun. We all enjoyed feeding them and watching them. One deer was a little timid about doing it, but actually ate out the 12 year old's hand. We saw does, bucks in velvet and fawns.

Julee was awesome to work with and I would certainly stay in Jake's Hideaway again, or if it wasn't available, I would try to book a cabin that was managed by Lonesome Paws. She gave me detailed directions to the tubing drop off and pick up points. We were able to take our own tubes and saved money that way.

We didn't have any luck fishing; however, our stay was last minute and we didn't have enough time. As a consequence, we were fishing in the heat of the day and the fish just weren't biting.

The board games were a great way for the family to spend time together. I think we all enjoyed playing and it was good to be doing things as a family instead of the kids playing video games.

This was my 4th stay in the Coosawattee River Resort and the 3rd cabin I've stayed in there. I liked this cabin a lot and loved working with Julee. We are already trying to plan a time to return!

Our perfect vacation

  • 5 of 5

Jakes Hideaway was the perfect cabin for our vacation. We were 6 adults and 6 kids and we had more than enough space where we were all comfortable. The cabin was clean and had all the kitchen supplies that we needed. The area was beautiful, we enjoyed hiking, tubing down the river and my son was able to fish close by too. We were pretty busy all week and were able to see and do a lot. Go prepared with where you want to go ahead of time and reserve things in advanced as much as possible. Over all this was an excellent choice for our vacation and I highly recommend it.

Very nice place!

  • 5 of 5

In pictures the place looks small, but it is a very nice and big pace! It is equipped to fit nicely 12 people. Even though it is in a gated community we had no issues with the neighbors or noise. It provided us with all of the essentials we need for the kitchen, grill, Jacuzzi, bathrooms and bedrooms. We loved out get away there!

Loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend getaway. I have been to the cabin several times, and it has always been a nice and quiet cabin. The cabin is very clean and the hot tub was my favorite part. I would recommend this for a family vacation or weekend retreat!!

When we booked the cabin we were given a price, list of amenities, and all of the other details you are more than likely looking at already. A few days after booking we received an email from Julee King (property manager) stating that HomeAway did not have the right pricing for the dates we selected. We were asked to cancel the reservation and book again under the new pricing. The new pricing was a slight increase, but it was still within our budget.

After booking we were notified by Julee that we need to sign an updated contract. The contract which shows a cancellation policy that is different than the HomeAway site, and many other oddities. We began looking for another cabin, but were advised by Julee that we would not be getting a refund based on the new contract. It is very odd that the contract is sent after you pay. If you book with them, please get the contract up front.

Upon arrival we were delighted by a lit Christmas tree and a softly lit cabin. The warm feeling quickly sank as we noticed mounds of dust on the fans. We couldn't help but think of the contract and communication with Julee, so we began to inspect the home in detail. Aside from the dusty fans there were cookies and cereal in the couch cushions, crumbs on the counters, dust on all lamps and shelves, and a used women's sanitary napkin left in a dresser drawer. A few of the sliding glass doors don't lock, so a piece of wood is used to prop them shut. While not alarming it doesn't make one feel secure.

Later our sons went to use the hot tub and came back inside after only a few minutes. They smelled of mildew and came inside to find out why. After looking at the hot tub I noticed a layer of black film on the surface of the water, black mildew on the white fixtures inside of the hot tub, and later saw a filter caked in mildew to the point that it was entirely black (filters should be white and clean). We ended up throwing away the boys' bathing suits because two washes didn't get rid of the smell.

Julee was notified by phone and email. Both to which she became combative and later blamed us for all of the problems we listed. We have pictures, but she still places the blame on us and insists on holding our deposit. Be very cautious of Lonesome Paws management and Julee King!

If there were more space for a review, then we would have more details. We recommend the property, but not at the cost of doing business with her. Zero stars would be given.

Owner's Response: This contains out right lies. First, I never even talked to these people- ever. The entire booking was handled through the Home Away website. They did call on their way up to tell me they had not received their directions although they had been emailed out 4 days prior, and I did receive an email the day before their departure about the hot tub being dirty. I went to the cabin that day to check the hot tub and no one was there. Upon inspecting the hot tub, I saw some dirt but no mold or a "black" filter. I emailed them back to tell them that the clean cycle was not working. When we were finally able to get into the cabin to clean, we found the control panel dial turned completely around- thus disabling the hot tub functions. The cabin was booked through Homeaway and paid for through Homeaway. Homeaway utilizes the prices that are preloaded and it is not possible for an owner to change them once a cabin is booked by a renter. The guest paid Homeaway directly and I was never given a credit card number. Again to repeat- the contract is listed on the Home Away ad- not only is it listed - but you have to check off that you read it before Home Away will allow you to go further with the booking. It is completely standard for this area and this type of rental. They do not mention they lost their deposit or why they left at 11:45 when check out was at 10 AM making my cleaning crew wait outside in 30 degree weather to enter the cabin to clean. Nor do they explain that they allowed three kids aged 11, 13 and 13 in the hot tub without supervision. They are correct that there was food under the couch as they left it there. There was an entire bag of potato chips smashed up all over the loft. Due to the fact that the guest would not vacate the property and we had to call and ask the group behind them to move back an hour- and the next group was not able to use the hot tub- we kept their $200.00 deposit- which I gave to the renters and my cleaners that had to sit in the driveway for and hour and 45 minutes in 30 degree weather while the guests ate breakfast and videotaped them.

Second time was just as good!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from our second stay at Jake's Hideaway. Had a wonderful stay, again, the location is just perfect. We enjoy the River Resort and all it's surroundings. The cabin is well appointed with everything you need and you can't help but feel relaxed the second you get there. My husband enjoyed so much he came back on his own for a guys' golf trip. Amazing courses in the area for the golf enthusiast.
