The Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family has been vacationing in the Pocono Mountains for years and wanted to experience Vermont for a change. We searched and immediately were drawn to Holly’s Cabin. The whole process was communicated with Holly via email. Our goal was to get into the cold with superior ski/snow conditions and that’s what we got. As we approached the house, we were amazed at how beautiful the surrounding area was once we passed through the village of Stowe. Our arrival was amazing; the house is visible from the road and is nestled behind large evergreen trees covered with snow. It was truly a great experience pulling up to the house for the first time. Snow covered the house and icicles hung off the front porch. Lights were on and the house was cozy warm inside. Once inside, we were completely amazed at how well maintained the house was. The fireplace was perfect for keeping warm and cozy. The next day, we ventured out onto the property. This is where we witnessed some of the most spectacular nature views I’ve ever experienced. The house was well equipped with sheets, towels and cooking essentials. The house has a very unique outside hot tub that completely took away the pains created during a challenging day at Stowe Mountain Ski Resort. At night the temperatures dropped down to -16 but the house was warm inside lead by the most efficiently working Fireplace I’ve ever experienced. We were sad to leave such a beautiful place after our 4 day stay but will be back again in the future. The entire stay, I didn’t think of work and didn’t use my cell, which I realize on my drive home. We found our perfect Stowe log cabin in the woods and would recommend it to anybody who wants to get away with family.

We had a good stay

  • 3 of 5

We only stayed a short three nights. It was a

quick getaway.

Effective communication with the owner. She called me the first night to check in and let me

know that I should call her if anything arose.

We LOVED the outdoor hot tub and after a snowfall, it was magical! The slippers and robes provided were a nice touch although there was no place to hang them outside to avoid getting them snowy or wet.

The pool table and game selection was nice when we just wanted to chill out and relax inside.

Also the fireplace and ample wood was spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting quietly listening to music and watching the fire.

Setting was quiet and remote yet just a few minutes to town or grocery.

There were ample towels and kitchenware to make our stay pleasant.

The house was clean upon arrival.

As much as I dislike writing this, we found some things could have been better addressed.

Lighting- the lack of lighting especially in the kitchen made prep work extremely difficult especially at night.

Shower had terrible spray and it seemed as if some of the plumbing fixtures needed to be upgraded.

Too much clutter. Although t is not our home and clearly the owners choice, as a vacation rental, we felt that there were just to many stuffed animals on the furniture and pieces of decor on tables. It made navigation and placing personal items difficult.

A tea kettle would have been lovely.

This is subjective- but the mattress in the main floor guest room which had an egg crate topper created a "hole" which to roll in at the middle of the bed. It also caused both of our backs to be sore. But we have been used to tempurpedic in our home so it's possible we just weren't used to the softness.

Since it was a short trip calling the owner or manager to rectify any issues we had seemed too wasteful of our precious vacation time so we just made the best of it. Overall we were pleased with our stay and found the amenities quite nice, however we felt that the price we paid did not justify the stay. This house overal needs some thoughtful updating for todays standards, especially at the price paid.

Owner's Response: First of all, I’m glad you had a “good stay.” It is difficult to know exactly how to respond to a guest when issues are confusing. Should I ignore or address them? So, I’ll do my best to answer your review for the benefit of others who are considering visiting our home. It is very important to me to have my guests enjoy themselves and I prepare for every visit dedicating at least 16 hours to preparation. Our home was selected from hundreds of others, by a prominent travel magazine, for a feature article on “the New England vacation you dream of” where “there are enough surprises to keep you engaged and contained for weeks.” I will be happy to forward this article to anyone who would like to read it. The kitchen has 5 lighting fixtures. Some of them are on dimmers and maybe this guest didn’t realize this. Nobody has ever mentioned a lack of lighting at the house. The house has many antiques and items that distinguish it from others. The pictures on the web site show the character of the house and most people tell me that it is actually better in reality. We do not have “egg crate” toppers but memory foam on every bed which should support people nicely. Mattresses are very subjective but we try to have our beds and bedding suited for maximum comfort. We do supply robes, foot wear and towels for hot tub use. As the hot tub is outside, I don’t know exactly how we could protect towels from the climate but 5’ away from the hot tub, through the sliding door, are accommodations for hanging towels, clothes, etc.. All our appliances are new and modern. The nature of our home is not stark and rental-like. It is designed to be warm, cozy, interesting and elegant as well. A log home should represent true Americana, yes?

Amazing place to unwind and relax in a serene, natural setting

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from an enchanting stay at the cabin. What a gorgeous place! Easy access to Stowe and complete with its own crystal clear stream, pond and rejuvenating hot tub. The cabin is cozy and well stocked with books, games and even a pool table. We did not turn on the television once! The great room is huge and though it was summer time, we could imagine a roaring fire and just lounging on the comfy sofas. If you want or need a home away from home, where time seems to stand still and waits for you to mosey on out to the back deck to feed the ducks or take a nap on a lounge chair this home is for you! Great base for hiking trips - close to all of the waterfalls, Stowe restaurants and of course, the Ben & Jerrys factory. We loved that Holly checked in with us to see if we needed anything, though she provided everything - from hot tub robes to toilet paper! She wasn't kidding when she said all we needed was our clothes for the week! Thank you Holly for sharing your special slice of heaven on earth!

Perfect relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

Holly's Cottage is exactly as it is described, it is truly a place to get away from it all. The cottage itself is beautiful and has everything you need to feel like you are still at home but with the surroundings that you go to Vermont for. The cottage is set back from the road and you have complete privacy and seclusion once you are in the back yard.

The garden and pond are perfect for outdoor games and you can spend hours outdoors reading a book or just relaxing without seeing or hearing the outside world. It is also close enough to Stowe to eat out easily or stock up on provisions, so you get the best of both worlds. Holly was a pleasure to deal with and extremely thoughtful and attentive throughout our stay - thank you Holly.

Just WOW!

  • 5 of 5

Some reviewers used words like 'fairy tale' and 'magical', and I couldn't agree more! You can sense that the house, both inside and all its surroundings, are very special to the owner and are meticulously taken care of. It simply a great place. We had a great time with our grandparents and young children. Holly provided a pack & play and a high chair for the toddler, and the kids loved exploring the ducks, bears and other animals throughout the house. I would definitely recommend this place!
