This cozy cabin is romantically nestled amongst mature trees in a secluded bay on Loon Lake. The location is quiet and private. Loon Lake has a hard sand bottom and is excellent for swimming, boating and fishing. There is easy access to the lake from the cabin and a private dock and boat lift. Relax on the deck or around the fire pit, fish off the dock or swim. Five miles from the town of Vergas, with restaurants and shopping, and ten miles from Maplewood State Park for hiking makes this an ideal location. Privacy, beautiful sunsets, and nights filled with the sound of loons makes this cabin one-of-a-kind. Couples, families, and pets will find a welcome here. Rents Saturday to Saturday during peak season. Sleeps 6.
Steve and Jackie Eichmiller were drawn to Vergas, Minnesota by family history. August Eichmiller, Steve's grandfather, was one of the original settlers of the town. Having vacationed every year in the area, they grew to love its serene beauty. This is where they established their business to offer you the same experience.
Steve and Jackie Eichmiller have loved the lakes area of northwestern Minnesota for years. In 1996, they decided to call it home when they moved from the suburbs of Minneapolis to Vergas, Minnesota. Now, they wish to share with others their enthusiasm for Minnesota and, especially, for the beautiful lakes it offers.
Privacy, and a natural outdoor setting takes you away from the stress of the daily grind. Evenings around a fire pit, with a great view of the sunset, and loons calling in the bay is reminiscent of northern Minnesota, but with easy access.
I agree with the reviews below: a very peaceful and secluded cabin. The owners are next door, but the wooded lots allow for privacy, and there are no other neighbors close by. We had our dog along, and Scout tried to befriend her but took her rejection in stride (our dog isn't very sociable). The kitchen was very well stocked and we appreciated the extra towels in the bathroom. The cabin is very clean and nicely decorated. We rented a pontoon from Vergas for the week, although the owners do have a fishing boat available for rental. We had some young relatives out one to visit, and the kids enjoyed jumping off the dock--the lake bottom was fine for that.
We needed time away from everything, and we found it at Steve & Jackie's cabin! It's clean and comfortable and tucked away in a quiet cove on the lake that is quite a ways away from all the recreational boats & jet skis. We only saw a couple finishing boats trolling quietly around the cove. We sat out on the dock almost every evening to watch the beautiful sunsets. The internet service was quite good for being in such a remote location. Vergas and Perham are close by, 10 and 15 minutes away, both had local shopping as well as grocery stores and there were all kinds of restaurants within 15 minutes. Steve & Jackie were very nice, and they stocked the cabin with everything we needed. We hope to get back sometime soon!
We just returned from a four night stay at the cabin. We had a great time. The cabin was perfect for what we needed by having one bedroom upstairs and the other downstairs, so my parents had there space and I had mine. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed. We loved having all our meals out on the deck with the lake view. The surrounding trees provided a feeling of seclusion. I took a nap in the hammock one afternoon, and we had a campfire almost every night. It was wonderful!
Being able to bring the dog with us made the trip even more special and less stressful (not having to arrange care). He was able to be off leash at times and is so worn from having a blast that he has been passed out on the couch since we came home! My dog loved Jackie and Steve's dog Scout as well. He was a welcome visitor at the cabin.
I think we were just a bit early for fishing, but still caught many fish including pike, crappie and bass. We caught enough for two fish fries while we were there and still had plenty to take home. The best fishing was in the part of the lake where the cabin is located. We had wonderful weather and enjoyed our time on the boat.
The public access ramp is in a cove not far from the cabin. Warning to those who are brining their own boat, on the lake map it says "ROCKS" where you leave the cove from the public dock and it is not kidding! We ended up getting stuck on a rock. With the water low like it was when we were there, I'm not sure how a bigger boat could even get through. We had to use the trolling motor. You will need a spotter on the front of the boat to guide you through. There were a few other places in the lake with rocks in shallow water and there are no markers. You have been warned, LOL.
