Quebec City Condo Rental Photos and Description

Elegant Vacation Residence - 3 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths + Library (Sleeps 6)

Spacious 2000+ sq ft, 11 room, elegant and historic vacation residence at the center of Old Québec's magnificent architectural treasurers, located on a quiet, centrally-located street within the ancient city walls; at the heart of the the Old City's UNESCO World Heritage Site and overlooking Upper Town's only memorial square.

With next door 'neighbors' including the 1804 Holy Trinity Cathedral just across the square, the 1722 Ursulines Chapel, Museum and Monastery right across the street, the world famous Musee d'art Inuit Brousseau at the end of the street, Battlefields Park (the world's tenth largest city park) just up the hill, Notre-Dame Basilica-Cathedral just down the street ...and the oldest building in the province (known as la Maison Jaquet) simply around the corner; this vacation residence is at the heart of the Old City

The Neighborhood: Located on a quiet Upper Town street at the heart of the Old City's UNESCO World Heritage Site, the entrance to la Maison Ursulines incorporates the 'Grand Level' or first level of a keyed building constructed of cut granite in the Neoclassical tradition. Upon entering the building's interior foyer, you are greeted by a pair of carved wood and stained glass entry doors leading to a private interior foyer ...that of the residence of Louis-Philippe Pelletier, Quebec's Supreme Court judge in the 1890s and the judge in the famous trial of the King versus Marie-Anne Houde.

For a detailed tour of la Maison Ursulines, click to Maison Ursulines-com Enter la Maison Ursulinrs la Maison Ursulines Tour. For a neighborhood map, click Maison Ursulines-com Enter la Maison Ursulines Tour la Maison Ursulines The Surrounding Town page.

Grand & Lower Levels ...The Best Of Both Worlds: The 'Grand Level' has 12 foot ceilings plus restored original Corinthian details and includes the private interior foyer, a living room with 9-foot high shuttered windows (overlooking Upper Town's charming square), a formal dining room (with seating for 10 or 12), a complete kitchen, breakfast room off of the kitchen, a full bath and a library/office. Floors are antique narrow-strip polished natural finish Canadian maple.

The 'Lower Level' presents an intimate ambiance with its profusion of rustic stone walls, decorative fireplace and hued wood beams. The three bedrooms all have clerestory windows and polished walnut finished wood floors. The bathroom on this level is inset into a room with exposed stone walls and features one of two contemporary glass shower stalls, ceramic tile floors and a refurbished period claw-foot tub.

Decorated with antiques, 'over stuffed' country French furnishings and an eclectic art collection; it's a sophisticated yet very comfortable environment.

The Seasons: The Summer Season

Reserve this elegant vacation residence for an unforgettable visit. The summer months are a wonderfully mild season in this magical city with special events daily including New France Historical Celebrations just down the hill and the Changing of the Guard just up the hill in La Citadelle. Throughout the summer, the Old City overflows with window boxes and hanging flower baskets.

The 'Off' Seasons

If art collecting, antiquing, or a quiet romantic get-away's the goal, consider booking a stay during our off seasons. The crowds are gone as the locals 'retake' the cafes and Old Québec slows down to a pace that matches the changing seasons. It's a great way to sample the town's timeless European tempo.

What a beautifully appointed home: gorgeous antiques and soooo comfortable. It was a pleasure to stay here. Go to 12 Petite Champlain which is the Marie Clarisse Restaurant. Have bouilliabaise (sp?). Thank you for sharing your home. Bruce A., Florida

The Best Part

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Quebec City, and the best part was staying in your lovely home. We found the house very comfortable and convenient to many places. The people there were very friendly and enjoyed just listening to French conversations everywhere we went. We wished that we could speak the language ourselves.

Thanks again, Jeff

Fantastic apartment! Fantastic location!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful apartment. Plenty of room. Well furnished. Parking takes a decent amount of patience and luck, which was described in the owners description.

The location was excellent , being close to everything. We walked all over Old Quebec! Would definitely stay again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words. Arriving in the middle of the New France Festival, with many of the events right in the neighborhood was, as you noted, a potential challenge. Gladly, it worked-out well. The New France Festival is second only to the Quebec Summer Music Festival, both very bid deals. Thank you again for choosing to stay at la Maison Ursulines and we look forward to your returning again soon ...maybe during a quite season in order to soak-in la Belle Ville de Quebec's quiet moments.

A beautiful apartment in a beautiful city

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is stunning and perfectly located to enjoy the Old City. Everything was clean and well-maintained. We were happy with everything. Renters should know that the shower and tub are located in one of the two bedrooms (toilet is in the hall) and that the laundry can only be accessed by walking through the other of the two bedrooms. One of the bedrooms is loft-style, with walls that don't go all the way to the ceiling - which could be a privacy issue for some. There is a small grocery store only a few doors away which we visited every day. We walked to the Paillard Cafe for croissant every morning and had yummy gelato there one evening, too. Parking the car was a nightmare when we first arrived - you can pull up in front of the house and unload, but long-term parking must be in a lot and the day we arrived coincided with the opening parade of the New France Festival, so it took about an hour of driving around to find a lot that had a space for the car. You won't need a car in the Old City, but we did use it one day to visit some places outside of the city and had no problem finding a lot when we returned, even though it was prime time on a Friday evening.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the detailed remarks. We so glad that la Maison Ursulines' Intimate Retreat residence met and exceeded your expectations. The New France Festival is one of several internationally significant festivals sponsored by la Belle Ville de Quebec each year. (The detailed map showing neighborhood parking options at la Maison Ursulines' web site is posted to provide some guidance. We will add traffic directions for the one-way streets; that might help with the initial confusion.) Parking can be a challenge during an on-going festival since the Old City, encompassing and immediately surrounding the rampart walls (The UNESCO World Heritage Site) was planned and built over 400 years ago. All the streets are tiny in width; as though the surrounding buildings are huddling together for warmth or protection ...especially in Lower Town. With la Maison Ursulines' location in Upper Town, the open surrounding spaces are a bit more obvious, but the streets are still very narrow and mostly one-way ...usually in the direction that's opposite to where you need to go. Our guest's remarks are correct, la Belle Ville de Quebec's Old City is the perfect neighborhood for walking, enjoying surrounding restaurants and sidewalk cafes; about as far as you can get from a car jaunt to the local mall or fastfood outlet.

A nice but overestimated rental

  • 3 of 5

The rental is presented as 4 star residence but truly is very clean perfectly located basement apartment with all 3 bedrooms located at the lower level and nicely appointed main level which can not be considered living space.

It will comfortably fit 6 people and maybe 1 more child. But then you need to be aware of the staircase that could be an obstacle for some.

But the main problem is the owner who is extremely easy to connect with when he is trying to sell you the rental and then very unresponsive when time comes to return the deposit.

He tends to forget paperwork also. I would strongly suggest paying with credit card in order to have some insurance.

Overall I would give this place a 3 star.

Owner's Response: April 24, 2016 The security deposit was returned (in full) on September 30, 2014, approximately two weeks following your stay. If you received the US Postal Service letter well beyond September 30, I certainly apologize, but we have no control over the postal system. We also accept PayPal, maybe that would have been a better payment format for you since the transactions are almost instantaneous. We bent our rules for you, allowing a two-night stay and additionally provided a Special Deal discount; sorry the historically significant residence did not meet your expectations. Maybe a local hotel room might have been a better fit. Best, Paul

Superb; highly recommended; great location and great property

  • 5 of 5

The property is centrally located with only a few blocks walk to most things (like Paillard our favorite breakfast and dessert spot and the Saint Amour which is terrific for a real splurge dinner that's worth the money). It's located off the main road and with the thick stone walls you hear no street noise. It's beautifully furnished and spotless. The showers are powerful and there was plenty of hot water for the four of us. I wouldn't recommend it for travelers who aren't steady on their feet as there is a 9" step into the kitchen and first floor bathroom and spiral stairs to the lower level bedrooms. But for anyone else it would be ideal. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were comfortably cooled by the fans in each room. Definitely check out the Ursaline Museum next door (this house used to be their administration building). Homeowner, and local contact were all very responsive and informative. Quebec City is a great place to visit and this was a terrific place to stay.

Owner's Response: Hi Grant, Thanks for the kind words! Oh yes, the "cos-cous" ...break-neck stairway. That was a big discussion point during the major remodeling of the residence. We decided to keep the stairway intact because it is the building's original "servant's stairway" between the kitchen (now the master bedroom) and the Grand Level dining room. While we wanted to include all the modern-day conveniences (like the Jenn-air stove, separate showers, a central vacuum system, recessed lighting, etc.); it was very important to us that the result was to retain as much of the original residence as possible. We wanted our family, friends and guests to walk into the residence and feel a strong emotional tie with the past ...hopefully we did not over do it; striking the right balance was a big part of the renovation task. Thanks again for the kind words. Best, Paul

Our group of six adults have recently spent a memorable week at la Maison Ursaline in Quebec City. We thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful, comfortable home. It combined modern comfort and amenities with "just the right" amount of elegance in antiques, artwork and the antiquity of the building. I felt like I was in a "special" place for a week, and I was. The incredibly convenient location in Old Quebec-puts all of the sites, shops, museums, and many great restaurants right outside your doorstep. This being our first visit, we loved Quebec City, the history, beauty, and "old world" ambiance. Enjoyed the tour of the Citadelle very much. Even the weather cooperated during our visit (early June),

I would recommend this lovely home, without hesitation, for people who enjoy comfort and convenience. Carol & Ed Sweeney, who greeted us upon arrival, could not have been more accomodating and helpful.

Owner's Response: Sue & Rick Thank you for choosing to stay at la Maison Ursulines, at the heart of The Quebec UNESCO World Heritage Site ...and for your kind remarks. Our little team works hard every day to make sure our guests' stays are very special and memorable; from the detailed trip planning information that's sent prior to each guest's arrival to welcoming our guests at the residence; it's all planned to provide the best experience possible in "la Belle Ville de Quebec". The "Old City" is a true "gem" of a destination; thank you for noting the residence's location and the many surrounding amenities. Again, thank you for your remarks and please don't hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance in any way. Best, Cindy & Paul Tetreault
