This sleeping alcove makes a great guest bedroom for temporary guests or for teenagers. We also have two twin Aero beds for those guests that suddenly drop in at the beach house.
Do you have an extra large group? Inquire about renting ($215/day) the houses directly next door to us. This would be a great set-up for when the in-laws visit !
Our home is adjacent to the public boat ramp and Crocker Neck Nature Preserve (which is known for hiking, biking, bird watching and swimming). We are just a short bike ride to the three Cotuit beaches and Lowell Baseball Park for a Triple A game. For the athletic members of the group, you can kayak or sail to 'The Spit' just down the Bay and enjoy the day at a secluded beach.
New for 2017, is a 'deep water' mooring (permits pending) for the sailboat in Popponesset Bay so you can have direct access to the Bay and Sound. This mooring is located in the Crocker Neck development, at Ryefield Point (just 2400 feet away). It is now an easy sail to The Spit. Of course, you can also leave the sailboat at our mooring right in front of our home. No other rental property on the Cape offers you so much fun.
What our family does: Sailing in the Bay, Fun in the sun! Watching the boats in the Bay, while enjoying a cup of coffee. Fishing from our beach or the point. Water skiing in the Bay. Taking the kayaks or Hobie to 'the spit' for the day, and enjoying the beach. Our calm Bay is great for kayaking. Running our dog on our beach. Lounging by the pool! Bike to the Town Beach and Village. Watch the boats launch at the boat ramp at end of street. Shopping and strolling at nearby Mashpee Commons. Walking the nature trails in the Crocker Neck preserve and salt marsh. Biking around the Coves. Bike rentals are available in the area (we have also supplied the house with numerous adult bikes) and at the Bike Path. There is also a new bike path extending from North Falmouth to Woods Hole. It is about 10 miles each way. Very scenic and lots of places to eat along the way.
Beach Info: Beach Info: The closest town beach is about two minutes away by car and is just off Main St. There are three public beaches on Main St. There is also the 'secret beach' in Crocker Neck Reservation. The closest 'boat beach' is about one mile up the bay. This beach is known as 'The Spit'. It is an easy sail from the mooring to The Spit. The other town beach is either Craigville Beach (use our included parking pass) in Osterville or South Cape in Mashpee. Both have daily parking. You can also bike to the other Cotuit beaches, they are about a nine minute bike ride. All Barnstable beaches require a parking sticker (included with rental).
The beach right in front of our home is great for fishing (just walk down about 50 yards to the point), walking, sunsets, relaxing, crab chasing, playing catch with your dog and a little wading in the water for the 'wee' ones.
Though I grew up in New Jersey, my family has been coming to the Cape since the early 1960's. My parents fell in love with Cotuit in the late 1970's and we have been here ever since. I spent most of my summers (80's-90's) working and living on Cape Cod. After welcoming my wife, Maria, into our family she too has come to enjoy the Cape. Our daughter, Meredith, has been a life long summer resident of the Cape since making her first trip to the Cape at age 3 weeks !
Paul Brower Thompson purchased this house in 1981
Our family originally purchased this property in 1981 after falling in love with Cotuit village and the serenity of the area. My parents were the second owners of the property. This house, built overlooking the Bay offers incredible views from all rooms. During ShoestringBayHouse's next journey, we have been slowly updating the house over the past ten years, investing in numerous upgrades from the original house.
Waterfront, pool, a great view and plenty of room so that family and friends can spread out and enjoy our home. For the adventurous members of the group, a sailboat is included with the rental. We are pet friendly !
"....your house was lovely and we had some good sailing on the Hobie, she heads into the wind very well considering no foresail. We have enjoyed our stay very much..."

Don't hesitate to reserve this wonderful home in Cotuit. We loved everything about the house and the quiet neighborhood. The open layout of dining/living/sunroom areas was great. Plenty of room to gather together for dinner/breakfast ... or separate from each other to read or compute. Our group was 7 retired adults but we could see what a great house it would be with children. Two of us enjoyed the kayaks on a beautiful September morning while others went off on a whale watch. We loved relaxing with cocktails on the upper deck and one evening a heron was fishing right on the little beach below the deck. One night we had a lobster dinner on the lower deck (near pool). Ordered cooked lobsters from Stop&Shop (much easier than cooking ourselves). Two other Cape friends joined us that night for dinner.
We all enjoyed early morning and evening walks in the surrounding neighborhood. Do stop by the charming Cotuit General Store ... they have good food for take out. Our only dinner out was at the Kettle Ho which is not far from the house. Lots of locals there - food was good. Paul, the owner, was great. He's very organized and clearly he & his family take very good care of their beautiful home. It was very comfortable and very clean! We would definitely recommend this property to family & friends!!!
Thank you!! Our blended-extended family, friends and dogs enjoyed every fun beautiful moment at your gorgeous home! We all loved the house, pool, neighborhood and being right on the water! We also had the best weather to top it off!! 😎 Everything about this home and property added to a perfect wknd together!! Thank you for being so accommodating to our group! We were so comfortable and felt at home immediately! The only negative was leaving 😰 Highlights were kayaking to the spit, volleyball in the pool, corn hole on your front lawn and a delicious lobster boil 😎 We appreciated the way your specious and beautiful home is wired up for music, TV etc and the air conditioning kept us comfortable on the hot muggy days!! We hope to return next year!! 💞 Thank you again so much!!
A resort-like setting with a home-like feel. Very clean, spacious, comfortable accommodations for 3 generations of family. Lots of thoughtful amenities giving you no reason to get in the car! Walking, biking, hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing - all accessible from a picturesque setting. The only downside was having to leave! Paul is a very accommodating, responsive property owner with genuine concern for his guests.
My husband and our toddler daughter and two sets of grandparents stayed at the Shoestring Bay house this past week and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is incredibly well equipped for a rental (everything you could need in the kitchen, kayaks, a paddle board, phone chargers, two grills, Roku-equipped televisions, games, you name it...). We were among the first guests to enjoy the new renovations, and the home was bright, open and clean with stunning views of the bay. Sunsets here were magical. We had a great time wading in the shallow beach and watching the crabs in the sand. The beach was great for launching boats and exploring nature, but if you're looking for the more iconic Cape Cod beaches and dunes, those are a short drive away. Paul was great to deal with and very responsive on email to questions leading up to the trip and while we were at the home. This house was perfect for our family gathering and I would recommend it highly.
Rented this home in May with several friends for our annual fishing trip to Popponesset beach area. Home was amazing! There was more than enough room to accommodate 9 people and all our gear (including 18ft fishing boat). The decks and pool area made it a great gathering place for the group after our golf and fishing activities throughout the day. The decor was vintage Cape Cod and had a welcoming and cozy feel. Owner Paul Thompson was courteous, informative and easily accessible when needed (enjoyed our conversations Paul). I would highly recommend this home and will be renting it again and again!
We spent 2 great weeks here at the end of August. 2 young boys loved the pool and the cycle-friendly neighbourhood. Parents also enjoyed the calm location and the view of the bay from the outdoor decks. House is well-equipped with electronics, close to beaches and stores. Owner was very quick to respond to a couple of minor questions that came up. In a word, everything we wanted and already making plans to go back! Thanks. DA
Waterfront, Pet friendly, Pool, Family Fun, Nature Trails, Biking, Beach Combing, Fishing, all of this awaits you in the Cotuit area. Our house is located directly on Shoestring Bay in Cotuit. We are at the North end of the Bay and the house faces in the direction of Willowbend. There is only one road in/out of the Cotuit Coves area. Cotuit is for the family that does not want to be in the center of the action. The Cotuit Coves 'neck' is surrounded by water on all three sides and the nature preserve at the entrance. We are about 25 minutes from the Bourne Bridge and Sagamore Rotary. The beaches of Shoestring Bay are covered in sand and seagrass. The shallow area of the water is sand and then it changes to sand/silt in the deeper parts of the bay. The kids will spend hours digging in the sand at our beach and looking for crabs! Don't forget we are just across the street from Crocker Neck Nature Preserve where you can hike, bike, kayak and swim.
Other Activities: Nature trails and reservation across the street.
